2013 Reds / Game Thread

Game Thread: Reds at Cardinals (2013.04.29)

The good guys were able to record that elusive second road win yesterday in Washington and will now look to make it two in a row on the road.  To do so, they’ll have to solve Adam Wainwright, who has been about as good as can be early on this season with a 4-1 record and an ERA below 2.00.

The Reds will counter with Mat Latos who has been pretty impressive this season as well.  The last time he faced St. Louis, Latos pitched a gem, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings pitched.  He was unable to get the win that game though, but you may recall the final outcome of that contest.  I don’t know about you guys, but I wouldn’t mind seeing another game like that one.

Let’s put our collective efforts together here and bash the Cardinals and discuss the game with one another.  Go Reds!

  1. Really surprised the Reds pulled Latos with only 91 pitches.

6 pitch inning for the Reds at bat in the seventh. They really let Wainwright off the hook on pitch count the past three innings.

  2. I’m not going to quibble about taking Latos out, and I wouldn’t if Dusty left him in. Our BP is supposed to be good enough to finish games.

  3. So how does that Latos trade look now? Unless Grandal comes out and turns into a top 5 catcher, the Reds clearly won this deal through this point in time.

    • @rfay00: I’m certainly happy with it for us, but it’s a little early to call it a loss for the Padres since they weren’t gonna be competitive right now anyways. By the time those prospects develop they could be a good team.

        • @rfay00: Completely agree, and I am very happy that he is a Red. I’m just saying it’s too early to call this trade a loss for the Padres. Jim Bowden was an idiot for saying the Reds gave up too much though (what else is new)

    • @rfay00: As I was saying when Latos was terrible last April, we won’t know who won that trade until 3 or 4 seasons have lapsed. It looks good right now, but who knows… (also, it’s pretty conceivable that both teams “won” the trade as its not a zero sum game)

  4. This is setting up for Chapman to face 7-8-9 again in the 9th. Presuming no trouble for Broxton in the 8th.

  5. The Cowboy just called a grounder a “can of corn”. I’ve heard a fly ball called that but never a grounder. Help?

  6. Just got home. Was listening to the game on the radio while I was at the gym. I swear listening to Brantley I woulda though the Reds were getting their butts kicked.

    • I missed which actor Marty was talking about that passed away. Who was it? Thanks

Former Red Brad “The Animal” Lesley.

    • @rhayex: Payroll is at an all time high. Honestly, there’s no reason why we can’t extend him during/after this season. Something tells me that we’re gonna have Latos for a while. Even if he does leave, easily my favorite pitcher in the Bigs.

  7. !@!#!@$#%#$^%&^*^$%^#$@%@%$#^#%^@#$%!#%$@^**$^%@$%!#@^$%^&$%&#$%@#$%@%^
I HATE Molina! Good placement on that first pitch that got hit for Broxton, second one was just…ugh

  8. Broxton channeling his inner Mike Leake. Dusty watching clueless as to what to do. Can’t take out 8th inning guy…..chew pick….. can’t do it….chew pick…..

    • Heads up play by Molina … as much as I hate the guy he can just play baseball.

That was a terrible play by Broxton. He had Molina and the runner should not have been able to advance but he botched the rundown. He stopped running.

  9. I am so thrilled that we gave Broxton all that money to suck in the 8th inning rather than the 9th.

  10. Somebody needs to start a drinking game for every time Marty says “runners in scoring position.”

  11. Its not even the end of April and I already have the defibrillator within arms reach. That suckers already got a lot of miles on it.

I hear ya sarge. It takes me 2 hours to come down after these tight games.

  12. Alright, so despite it being late, I had to check in.. and I get to see Broxton. Delightful.

Side note.. if Broxton did his job and got a 1-2-3 inning, Chapman would have come in to another game against the 7-8-9 hitters. Amazing. Maybe Broxton did it on purpose so we could watch Chapman pitch against better batters in the 9th? Hah

  13. Wow Jay…I know he’s gonna heat up at some point, but these cold streaks are starting to feel colder.
