Minor League Player of the Day: Marquez Smith went 3-for-5 with a triple, a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored.

AAA
Gwinnett 7 – Louisville 3

Sean Marshall made a rehab appearance, pitching the first shutout inning on 2 hits, no walks, and 2 strikeouts.

Daniel Corcino (0-4, 10.29 ERA) allowed 7 runs on 8 hits and a walk over 2.1 innings.

Emmanuel Burriss (2-for-4, BB) reached base three times from the leadoff spot and was the only Bats hitter with more than 1 hit.

AA
Pensacola 8 – Jackson 4

Chad Rogers (2-0, 1.82 ERA) has opened the season with four consecutive starts allowing two earned runs or less. In this contest, Rogers went 7 innings, giving up 3 runs (1 earned), on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.

Everyone contributed to the Blue Wahoo offense as 7 different players scored a run in this one. Theo Bowe (2-for-3, R, 2 2B, BB) was the only Pensacola player with more than one hit.

High A
High Desert 13 – Bakersfield 9

Bakersfield pounded out 15 hits in the loss. Marquez Smith (3-for-5, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) and Yorman Rodriguez (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) each homered for the Blaze. Smith, Ryan Wright, Juan Silverio, and Juan Silva all had 3 hits each.

Jake Johnson (1-1, 8.22 ERA) gave up 8 runs on 10 hits over his 3-inning start. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out 2.

Low A
Lansing 3 – Dayton 1

Drew Cisco (1-1, 2.42 ERA) allowed 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out 5. That’s Cisco’s third consecutive start without walking a batter. He’s only issued one free pass in 26 innings this year.

The Dragons only collected 3 hits last night. Zach Vincej (1-for-3, BB, SB, R) reached base twice, stole a base, and scored the lone Dayton run.

  1. Any chance we could get a Billy Hamilton mention in every one of these? Even if he goes 0-4, I for one would like to know how he went 0-4. His progress is such a potentially important part of the Reds future, the more detail the better :-)

      I’ll only answer for me, but I only add names where they pertain to something noteworthy. If Hamilton’s noteworthy, I’ll mention him. If not….you can always click on the scorecard link to see how he did.

  2. He said Burriss led off, which tells me Hamilton did not play.

    Did he get rushed too fast?

    I know Hamilton is trying to adjust to AAA also.
