Johnny Bench on Hee Haw? Sure.

Dayn Perry of CBSSportsline.com dug up this gem.  Yes, it’s Hall of Famer Johnny Bench on Hee Haw, singing covers of Jim Croce and Jerry Reed(!) to the delight of the Hee Haw Honeys.  Pay particular attention to Bench’s trousers, or as Perry calls them, “Aquaman pants.”

Bench must’ve been on the show more than once, because here he is (in maroon pants) with a glorious mustache, clowning around with Junior Samples.

  2. Dammit, Chris. I watched this when it first ran and you are reminding me just how old I am.

  3. I was just looking at a couple of these on youtube the other day. Not JB, but some of my “fight songs”, like “Where, oh Where Are You Tonight” and “Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me”.

  4. Oh this is gold!

Thanks for posting this. I have some great memories of watching Hee Haw with my parents in the late 70s.

Bench has a pretty good singing voice. A little stiff maybe, but he sounded great.

  5. Yeah, I remember him doing the “Where Are You Tonight” song. With Archie Campbell, I believe. Wonder if THAT is floating around somewhere, too. Man, that was awhile ago!!

  6. Yep, I remember watching these. And yes, I remember my big sister swooning. J.B. was her fave, to be sure.
