After a thrilling victory in Game 1 (recap), Cincinnati and San Francisco will lock horns again tonight in Game 2. Bronson Arroyo will face the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner
We all know about Arroyo; after a brutal 2011 that saw him break the Reds franchise record for HR allowed, Arroyo bounced back with a nice 2012. In all, the 35 year-old Arroyo went 12-10 with a 3.74 ERA.
You probably also know about Bumgarner. Besides having the best name in the league, the 22 year-old lefty is good: 16-11, 3.37. In the last six weeks, however, Bumgarner has struggled, losing four of his six decisions, with a 5.89 ERA.
Should be another intense, exciting game. Are you ready?
Here’s your lineup and your game preview. Discuss the game here. Go Redlegs.

The thing about not starting Frazier is, he will not get into the game unless Rolen is pinch run for. And that only happens if the Reds are down in the late innings and Rolen gets on.
So Frazier basically is purely a pinch hitter.
Does anyone know what happens if the Yanks-O’s game starts tonight (rain delay)? Is TBS going to not show the Reds game?
I see nothing wrong with going with the same line-up. I guarantee if a move is made I will find it odd. But I hear Bailey is back in Cincinnati so he cannot pinch hit…I still would have liked to seen Bailey start tonight, but now it is done, it is what it is,…go Reds. Let’s get a CG shutout from Arroyo and wear out the SF bullpen
This where I stood game time, and I still stand for it. Give that bullpen a night off, Possibly let Arrendondo or Hoover pitch the ninth.
Ludwick has struggled against Bumgarner. Tonight, it would be nice to see Frazier start in LF.
What do you think now? Thank you, it is a theory that proves to work time and time again, you hate enough on a player they prove you wrong
Nicely said!
Not anymore apparently.
Matt Holliday complained postgame about the twilight.
Not that I don’t agree that these games should be played when best suited for the home team, but does that team ever stop whining?
Once again, I’m excited for this thing to get started. What a year.
The Orioles-Yankees game was delayed and just started on TBS, so what channel would our game be on? thanks.
@Reds4life2012: TNT
I usually try to keep my Dusty bashing to a minimum, but i looked at some number and wondered why Super Todd wasn’t starting tonight:
Rolen vs LHP 2012: .234
Frazier vs LHP 2012: .298
I was all for Rolen starting for experience and defensive reasons, but he didn’t look so sharp at third last night, but hey I’m not in charge of the lineups.
So, I’ve just gotten over my hangover from last night’s festivities and I’m ready to cheer on the Reds once again.
No beer tonight, though. I’ll be lucky to make it to work on time tomorrow after staying up to watch the game.
I do not know about you, but i am starting my Columbus Day celebrating a few hours early. Here’s to the new world and a Reds victory
With the Reds, isn’t Rolen’s playoff average .000?
And Joey Votto is 1 for 13. So what is your point?
Arroyo scares me to death. Has never won at AT&T park. Holding my breath.
@AnnapolisHoosier:
I think the idea is the Bronson is better off pitching in spacious AT&T Park than GBP …
What pitcher wouldn’t, Homer Bailey probably would pay for the reconstruction of adding 10 feet to the GABP OF
Agree.
Homer will be ready Tuesday night…….at home.
Nothing wrong with starting Bronson. He has been effective in the second half. I’m actually starting to believe that Dusty knows what he is doing.
@CharlotteNCRedsFan:
I’ve been jammed with work. Is it official that we won’t see Cueto?
I do not think the issue was so much Arroyo, it was Bailey at GABP. All pitchers are at a disadvantage there; most Casual fans realize Bailey is much better on the road, he is a questionable upgrade over Arroyo on the road and Arroyo is definitely an upgrade at GABP. But it is what is and it is not so bad
@vicferrari: Precisely
Bronson has given up 6 more home runs on the road than he has at GABP (16 to 10)
So far so good. Still holding my breath.
Believe!!
Homer is starting game 3 now for sure per Mark Sheldon.
@AnnapolisHoosier: And Bailey has a Cy Young ERA on the road…
#dustybeingdusty
Yep
I’m only getting law and order on TNT, is it like that for anyone else?
@Truman48: Gotta get our future 3rd baseman some experience ya know?
I’d love to meet the guy who is just ENRAGED that Law and Order episode was cut short.
@Christopher Strand: I hope it’s a Cardinals fan.
Cardinals fans probably watch CSI
@Christopher Strand: I want to make an uncalled for LaRussa joke…but I will refrain myself.
Let’s do this Redlegs!
I hope that’s not the strikezone tonight.
@rfay00: there are no uncalled for LaRussa jokes. That guy is a pile
We’ve got to be the only team in the history of baseball who is batting someone in the #3 spot who hasn’t hit a home run in 41 games.
The TNT crew really harping on the lack of Votto homers since returning. I still have faith he turns it around. How about 2 walks and a 2B with 3 runs scored.
C’mon Arroyo let’s go…I would like to challenge everyone to try not post one negative thing about Arroyo. Do not say Bad Bronson, do not say he looks rough, he is shaky, etc.
The analysis by the TNT L & O replacement crew on the Giants strategy is amazing, they just said the Giants are going to try to avoid going down 0-2 in the series and get on the board early… They quoted Bochy as saying “if the opportunity arrives they will try to put a few on the board” or something to that effect. Obviously the Reds are using the strategy of getting all their outs in the early part of the game.
Made me laugh!
How does Ludwick do against Bumgarner?
Votto looks like an ordinary player.
Or not.
Hard to believe the # of tweets complaining about canceling 20 year old L&O episodes for playoff baseball.
They all have WLB hashtags
I’d say that is probably a home run at GABP. Or at least close.
Hahahhaa, these announcers are worse than marty and the cowboy.. they acted like that was gone and it barely went near the warning track of that cavern on the coast.
@Bill Lack:
L&O is The West Wing on crack w/cops.
That was such a Bronson inning. Three fly ball outs. Me likey, though softer would be nicer.. I’ll take it.
https://twitter.com/meettaylor/status/255118366560374784
Got any links to all the angry wannabe Cellualar viewers
It seems the Giants have discovered the oft-forgotten strategy of getting on the board early and trying to win the game. Weird.
Also, one of the announcers called Brandon Phillips a “young kid”or something to that effect. I guess it’s a matter of perspective.
Ludwhacked!!!!!
Sweeeeeet.
Ludwhack!!!!!
1-0…now that is how you get out front!!!
YES!!!!!!! THAT’S HOW IT’S DONE!!!!!!!!!
Stud wick!!!!!!!!!!
Ludwick!
That’s why you don’t focus on small sample size splits.
Luds!!
Ludwick just CRUSHED that ball
Ludwick breaks cold streak versus Bumgarner. Glad to be wrong here.
The right handed hitters are going to have to carry the weight tonight vs. Bumgarner.
Rolen still 0 for Playoffs.
Some very non-lazy person should count up the number of times RN posters pleaded for Hanigan to be taken out of the #8 spot in favor of Stubbs.
That would take a couple days.
We did not factor in the lack of quality pitches he sees now when you consider who is batting in front of…
Came back from 0-2 and got Ryan to go after bad pitch for the K.
I think *I* could post a 4.5 ERA if I pitched at AT&T
Ok,i had the beginning of the game recording while i watched Dexter and now TBS is showing the delayed ALDS. How do i see the Reds?
Give me a quarter and I’ll tell you.
@Jared:
It’s on TNT …
TNT c’mon
TNT
The Reds game is making a special guest appearance on a TNT rerun of Law & Order.
@MrSaturdayNite:
I hope they don’t pull the plug on the season series early …
If only someone would invent a machine where you could record one show while watching another.
@Steve Mancuso:
If you’ve seen the movie “Looper”, they were invented 30 years into the future. I’ve used my time travel to tape this game; it even allows you to FF through the commercials.
Almost have caught up to live action. Just saw Joe Montana: why is he here? I thought he’s a WLB fan, having played QB for KC …
@earmbrister: thanks!
@seat101: thanks for nothing
Nice inning for Bronson…
Two innings down for Bronson. He needs to get through 6, or maybe just 5.
I thinking 8. At least 7.
No, a shutout, 8 innings would be fine as well
@Jared:
I’ll buy you a great baked Ziti to make up for it.
I sure hope Frazier’s confidence isn’t crushed by Dusty’s lack of faith, or what Frazier might perceive as a lack of faith by not being penciled in the lineup. In my opinion (be it ever so humble) Rolen and Frazier’s roles should be reversed.
Keep it up, see my comment around 9:56 in response to “jas_428

Ludwick has struggled against Bumgarner. Tonight, it would be nice to see Frazier start in LF.”
Sometimes I forget how great of a pick up Ryan Ludwick was this offseason. I mean the guy hit 26 jacks and 80 RBI, had 2 great catches yesterday and home run today. $2.5 mil very well spent. Love the guy
Agreed. Definitely worth the price paid. It’s worth remembering though, that he had three great months and and three pretty bad months. We’ve got to hope the postseason becomes the fourth good one. Great start tonight!
@Steve Mancuso:
Ditto for Homer. He’s been alternating good and bad months.
@seat101: Thanks for nothing again.. $2 all you can eat spaghetti every Tuesday in October.
Hate these late games on work nights. Going to bed at 11:00. pissed.
Have to say, after some soul-searching, I think Sam LeCure is my favourite Red. He’s such a team guy, and if twitter is an indication, a real laid back dude who lives in the moment. It was really close between he, Bruce, and Bailey. I feel like Bruce embodies the reds’ ascent/youth movement best, and I’ve always had an affinity for Bailey, but LeCure tops them all.
Joe Montana is at the game, this time he will be on the wrong side of a huge cincinatti-san franciscio game.
Angel Hernandez is umping a playoff game!?
Isn’t that who Mes “poked”?
Bottom of the order, let’s go Arroyo!
@Jared:
But they have singing waiters with those great fake moustaches held on with rubber bands around their ears!
Does anyone know if Mike Leake, Devin Mesoraco and Logan Ondrusek are in the dugout with the team? Just curious. Has anyone seen them in the dugout on the broadcast?
Leake yesterday with Dusty’s son.
I thought it was cool because they look like they were really hanging out. They were showing a replay of a few years ago when the son was about 4 or 5 and JT Snow had to carry him off the basepaths as he was about to get trampled at homeplate. A cold shot by the way on Leake about the T-shirts, tasteless but still funny
Mesoraco was the bullpen catcher yesterday when Aroldis was warming up!
They showed Leake in the dugout yesterday. He was sitting with Darren Baker and it looked like he was cracking Darren up. It was kind of cool to see.
Not a great play by JB.
@Steve Mancuso: I saw Leake yesterday.
I saw Leake yesterday in the dugout
I love how much attention arroyos pitch variety is getting from the tv guys
@Steve Mancuso:
I swear I saw Leake talking to Darren Baker last night.
I saw that too. You did not hallucinate that time.
Beautiful pitch by Arroyo to K Blanco. The sidearm backdoor breaking ball.
#herecomesthesidearmK
Looks like it’s the good Bronson tonight.
I also saw Leake arguing with a T-Shirt vendor before the game.
Nasty curve ball, Bronson.
Arroyo has to be putting some spit on those…
Bronson’s looking nasty tonight. Brought the filthy stuff.
Homer who?
Wow, Arroyo is dealing tonight.
Bronson is washed up. I wish Leake would have gotten start tonight.
When Arroyo has that kind of command of his breaking stuff it’s usually a bad thing for the other team.
Bronson brought the wiffle ball pitches out tonight…
@George Culver:
Why aren’t you in bed?
Need to plate Joey here.
Update: need Votto & Luds to score this inning.
Jay is due for a long one.
The longer we stay in the playoffs the more likely Votto returns to form.
Votto should be leading off.
Nice call and great idea. Dusty wouldn’t do it in a million years though. Like how you think. Very Joe Maddon-like.
Hanigan should bat 2nd, Frazier should have started in left, Homer should have started tonight, but not pinch hit last night, Rolen should be benched and Votto shoudl not be running the bases…
Yeah agree. The team is really struggling.
I hope you realized the sarcasm, I got exited as I was posting this when Rolen got that hit
Double-sarc. Does that mean they nullify each other?
We’ll take that all series out of Votto, preferably with a couple of Reds already on base…
Keep it up Redlegs!
Announcers starting to annoy me when they talk about Joey. The guy is an absolute machine when it comes to getting on base. The very definition of a professional hitter. If he wants to choke up on that bat and get on base for his team in the playoffs rather than trying to find his “lost power” I think I’m okay with that.
Absolutely. It’s even starting to creep into the talk here. He’s still getting on base at a superhuman clip. The HR was never the central part of Joey’s game.
Tough for Bruce against Bumgarner, especially when the ump calls that first strike that outside the zone.
He still looks like he’s seeing the ball decently. He’ll get to the lefty next time…
Station to station baseball.
That infield fly is really getting some national notice.
Scotty!!!
AWESOME!!!
Nice job Rolen.
Like the aggressive base running…
Rolen!!!!! Huge run there, way to go big guy! That is why Joey choking up and getting on base for his team is so huge.
C’mon Scotty, show us some veterniness.
How about that veterniness, I feel there is going to be a lot of veterniness exhibited by this team if they can keep the core together for 5 years
From your lips to God’s ear!
Scotty showed some veterniness and Arroyo got the rest covered. Do the Reds need anymore?
Nice job by Rolen!!!
Glad JoeyMVP tried to score there. Let’s keep pouring it on. Need to get at least one more in this inning.
The reverse psychology thing is working tonight.
Yeah, definitely should’ve started Frazier. He’d have homered by now.
Like I said earlier, I’m glad Frazier wasn’t penciled in the lineup tonight.
Hanigan!!!
Huuuuge hits by Rolen and Hanigan!
YEAHHHHHH!!!!!
Hanigan!!!!!
Glad he’s not batting eighth tonight.
HANIGAN!!!!!!!!!! Oh baby, getting it done this inning!
Rolen has become the quintessential opposite field singles hitter. But we will take a big inning from the bottom of the order and be thrilled.
The righty’s are getting it done tonight…
Up the middle all day long!
The Reds are being professional hitters. Havent seen this in a while.
Stubbs just missed a home run pitch. DAMN
Drew is on the ball so far this series. Nice to see.
Sing along: Roll Out The Barrels We’ll Have A Barrel Of Fun Woooooo!!! Go Reds Go! 4-0 Reds top 4th.
Let’s just flip the lineup over here.
both are safe
Don’t look now, but Stubbs just had a pretty decent at-bat…even with the FC.
Anyone outside of Mike Trout beat that DP-ball out?
Hannigan has been clutch all yr.
I’m very glad Mesoraco is getting all this time to travel with and watch Ryan Hanigan.
@CharlotteNCRedsFan:
Jacoby ellsbury, dee gordon, Michael bourne, maybe bonafacio?
@cliff: Sounds about right. Good call.
Where’s Marty? Surely he’s not going to miss a playoff game is he?
I heard him busting Mark Sheldon’s chops a couple of innings ago.
DOH! Never mind
Arroyo, still the gold glove
@CharlotteNCRedsFan: Sandoval? Prince? Adrian Gonzalez?
@hermanbates: Hmmmmmmmmmmm. I don’t know about that Mr. Bates. Care to give it another shot?
Anyone know where I can get the Photoshop Arroyo double leg kick?
Is it too early to start talking about what we cannot talk about? Someone mentioned it 2 Friday’s ago and I felt it was a jinx to even mention not saying anything even though Chris Welsh mentioned it about 10 times every inning. SO it obviously was not a jinx, eventhough no one actually posted what we should not talk about
Entirely too early for that kinda thing. 6+ is the rule.
I really screwed this one up guys, I take full responsibility. This night could have been historically, I just hope it does ruin everyone’s Columbus Day. Spend some time with your families and focus on what is important as I try to live with myself
@vicferrari:
I have no idea what you are not talking about.
Seat – what are you guys talking about (around)?
@CharlotteNCRedsFan: Got it. Bobby. Abreu. Did you see his 30+ second round tripper? My word.
@vicferrari: WAAAAYY too early. I assume you’re talking about whether or not he’ll go 8 innings, and you can’t tell that until later
@vicferrari: Too early
Why is Arroyo never mentioned in comeback player of the year talks? Last year he was “Chasing Eric Milton”, this year is is a legitimate horse. WTG Bronson Arroyo. If Arroyo pitched his home games at AT&T, he would be a Cy Young candidate!!!
JoeyMVP hit 66 home runs the previous two seasons, with 37 in his MVP season.
Whew, Cozart just looks dreadful so far.
Really? Looking good in this at bat to me, rookie playing his second playoff game and he’s making a tough at bat here.
lolnope
@CP: Nice job. I think he heard you.
In hind sight Great AB
@CP: that’s better
How about a splash into McCovey Cove from JoeyMVP…
Opposite field to left is his thing
Nice to see him turn a ugly at bat into a positive one though!
Anybody else think that was a pretty good at bat by Zack?
excellent
Bumgarner’s velocity has gone off a cliff. He’s about done.
@CharlotteNCRedsFan:
Whether Rolen will bunt for a hit…..
@seat101: Let’s just put them out of their misery right here and then we can all just go to bed.
Giants starting pitching not looking all that fearsome so far this series. Eh?
Whole lot of heads hanging in the Giants dugout
who is this…Votto character? never heard of him.
It looks like Votto could hit .400 if he didn’t try to hit with power all year.
I was thinking the same thing the other day I just didn’t want to type something like that on here and have a bunch of people laugh at me. Good to know I’m not the only one.
That Votto guy, how dare he choke up on that bat with 2 strikes! Man can anyone get him out when he digs in like that? He’s inhuman.
Oh, is this a beautiful game so far…
Joey’s form looked good in his last at bat. He might homer soon!
If Kontos stays in to pitch to Jay Bruce, I like our chances.
Well, bed time for Bonzo, switching to audio only with the lights off. Just like when I was 10 years old. Good night all, see ya Tuesday?
You are going to miss celebrating. discovering the new world.
Well if you want to risk jinxing the team I guess that’s up to you. Haha just kidding. Sleep well.
Alleged paraplegic and generally inept Joey Votto manages another base hit. Bye Bye Bum-Gardner
Cmon Luddy. Break this wide open.
It looked like Belt was off 1B when he caught that DP peg.
A lot of great sporting events going on right now and there are still people really annoyed tuning in hoping to see Gretchen Egolf as a young bride trying to get away with murder.
There are some really great games going on, outside of being a legit fan since 1982 (and I mean 1982), this game kind of sucks. I hope it stays that way…
Cozart showing off that Howitzer arm. Beat him by 4-5 steps.
THAT’s a typical Rolen throw.
Well, got it over with…
Time for bed. I am gonna be like George Culver and watch the game on my radio.
Welp there goes that. Make it a one-hitter, Bronson.
Lincecum warming up in the bullpen to pitch the last three innings. That means he probably won’t start any of the games in Cincinnati. Vogelsong in Game Three. Cain in Game Four. Bumgarner in Game Five. Maybe Lincecum could pitch Game Five if he only goes three tonight.
What are you talking about, here’s hoping we see Matt Cain 2013
You are going to miss celebrating.\ discovering the new world.
Oh well, it still doesn’t take away the fact that Arroyo is still in control.
These fans are annoying, it would be real nice to shut them up…
Thanks Bronson
Is Belt related to Joe Simpson? This is reminding me of one of the many reasons I dislike the Braves — having to listen to guys like him. I figure that any minute he is going to start talking about how Andruw Jones is going to have a better career than Willie Mays.
Bruce is definitely right on the ball in this series. I’m kind of drooling at what he’ll do back home.
I’ll leave you with this.
http://sportzfun.com/photo/baseball/pitching-chewbacca.jpg.php
@seat101:
Is that Sally Struthers next to Chewy?
Wow, Giants fans sound desperate for something to cheer about.
Hi guys, this is Cole, Son of Sultan. I’m 12 and I’ll be commenting for my dad tonight.
Bring it, Cole.
@seat101: That’s Chewie’s furball, yeah?
Stupid Giants fans cheering for their team, the nerve of some fans.
Tell you what if I’m a fan of any of the other playoff contenders, I do not want to draw the Cincinnati Redlegs as my opponent. No joke!
Six excellent IP from Arroyo. I’d definitely have someone warming up next inning, though.
@Steve Mancuso:
History major, huh?
No way, he goes at least 8, why mess with success?
@vicferrari: Updated prediction: Arroyo – complete game.
Would THIS be considered a Quality Start?
Bronson says sit down Giants fans.
@CharlotteNCRedsFan: I totaly aggre
@Sultan of Swaff: Smart young man. Keep after your studies – you’re going places.
He’s got one more in him. At least.
@vicferrari: What if he starts to lose control?
Then take him out, you do not get extra points if you use relief pitchers. The philosophy seems to be bring in Marshall no matter what. I say let Bronson go until he gives up a run or at least they load the bases…why see if someone else does not have it tonight if you have a pitcher who can throw 110 to 120 and is cruising
Was that Dusty’s signal for another toothpick?
BP!!!!
@CharlotteNCRedsFan: Thank you.
75 pitches for Bronson so far – if he keeps pitching like he has, he can throw 8…
A) Did the announcer just asy “Stubbs goes down the line”?
B) Where did they get these guys?
Oh, and C) Hey, Cole!
Lincecum has been impressive – especially with that weird non-warm-up warm-up. Came right in and brought it…
Belt pulled his foot AGAIN!
October 7th, 2012. The day which will be remembered for the emergence of the most expensive middle reliever in the history of baseball.
Not that it’s a huge deal but I swear the 1B caught that throw as he was running back to the dugout.
@RC: After the 6th, they claimed Arroyo has retired 19 out of 20 hitters. Math is a little off.
This is the best I have ever seen Bronson Arroyo pitch. A masterpiece so far. I would start to keep an eye on him but at this point, the Giants are not touching him. At all!
New approach by Scuturo
with same result
I rewound just to be sure – Belt’s foot was still on the bag. But that starting-to-run thing he does is just inviting the umps to make a call. I hope they do at some point.
@vicferrari: Yes I Aggre, but let’s cross that bridge when we come to it.
Truer words have never been spoken.
So how long does Arroyo get? All 9?
So who did Buster take to the prom this year?
Bet he still gets carded.
Hopefully his wife.
@RC: It seems like something a little league coach would jump on a kid for doing.
I hate walks…
Didn’t want to challenge Posey. I don’t blame him – keep the shutout in play.
Still dealing.
I’m glad Bronson got through the seventh. I would have left him out there to face Pence.
But I just don’t understand why not have someone warming up in the bullpen. It’s the postseason and we have a day off tomorrow. If Pence had gotten on base, we really needed Marshall in there to face Belt.
Sometimes the best decisions are the ones you do not make, but you make an excellent point
I say Bronson in the 8th, have Arrendondo and Hoover warming up for righties and lefties.
With a four run lead, I’m fine sending Arroyo out there. But again, I’d have Marshall and Broxton up there warming up. Unless they aren’t going to throw Chapman tonight because of his pitch count last night. Then I’d have Marshall and Hoover up and use Broxton in the 9th.
@Steve Mancuso: Yes.
@rfay00: Have them warming up but, don’t bring them in until Arroyo gets into trouble (If he ever does).
Lincecum really “got em going”
That Votto guy can get on bases sometimes eh?
Votto singles X3 tonght.
Where’s the guy on here who said the Reds were only going to score 4 runs this whole series?
Joey Votto should be awarded 1st base every plate attempt by default.
Or just flip a coin…lol
Good eye by Ludwick
Insurance run(s) would be welcomed right here.
Jay is due.
I smell a big inning!
You have a nose for victory my friend. Good call.
@rfay00: He has melted into thin air.
Big insurance runs.
BRUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
BRUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!
And off of a LH pitcher.
BRUUUUUUCEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! Nail in the coffin. Let’s end this Redlegs!
Offensively, could there be anything more positive for the Reds than Jay Bruce getting hot during the playoffs?
Nice!
Jay is hotter than a 4th of July firecracker.
Bruce hot streak = WS Champs!
I love this. This makes up for last night being so nerve wracking.
Both are fun when we when though!
I agree. Last night was a roller coaster ride wasn’t it.
I was hoping to have it wrapped up by midnight, but I guess that was too much to ask.
This is when I’m happy to be in St. Louis.
This game is over!
Uh-oh! Be careful, man!
Mijares didn’t look terribly happy right there…
@SGT Ethan: I aggre.
I wish Frazier could get some ABs in. No need to keep Rolen in at this point.
Isn’t it fun to watch the Reds beat on other teams’ not-so-great bullpens? What an awesome game, everyone getting in act.
I felt last night, the Giants lost the game and played bad and the Reds just had to show up. I do not feel that way tonight. I feel a team with a great regular season peaking at the right time. As Doc says, they have the “it factor”
If Jay Bruce was any kind of clutch hitter, it’d be 7-0 right now.
@cliff:
Sounding a bit like Marty right now
he needed the exercise
Is Bochy getting a little desperate?
I don’t quite get this pitching switch.
I think Casillo is their closer and after last night he wanted to send him off unscathed, Bochy knows how to manage his pitchers..he saved the humiliation for Mota
First time in twelve games the Reds have scored 6 runs. If they score seven, you’d have to go back to August for the previous time they did that.
I care not for the time! (I’m off tomorrow.
)
I love it when Managers leave the dugout. Usually a sign things are not going well for his team.
@vicferrari: Love having the “it factor.” Remember how reds couldn’t hit in September? Me neither!
Their pitching must be very tierd.
And this is quite a bit more enjoyable than the 2010 playoff appearance …
Karma for cheering the Cueto injury?
@Sergeant2: It realy depends on how fast the walk.
This is the rare occasion where I’m glad I work 3rd shift during the week.
I’d pinch hit for Arroyo to get someone (Frazier) an AB. Use a couple of the BP guys (Hoover, Arredondo, Simon) who could use the work. No point in having Arroyo stay in the game. None at all.
Hanigan! Good job.
Hanigan with another nail. This is fun.
Fans are leaving. Don’t let up. Keep the boot on their throats.
Oh, this is so awesome…
Whew…I needed this game. Last night was mentally taxing to watch.
Hanigan gets yet another hit. And yet he’s still batting…you know what? Never mind. We’re up 7-0* in the NLDS. I need to stop whining about lineups.
*A Stubbs hit?! Make it 8-0!
Stubbs? Now we’ve seen everything! Time to save some for Cincy.
This is really just stupid having Arroyo bat here.
not exactly stupid, as I am for letting a pitcher get a shutout…but if Cueto cannot go and Bailey does a GABP special and Latos has an off night, it might be smart to think about Arroyo as your game 5 stopper and pull him hear
Stubbs!!! This is getting ugly in the best possible way. Send a message to the rest of the league tonight Reds!
If the Reds keep scoring runs I don’t care if the game ends at 3:00am. Of course I’m retired and get up when I damm well please. Woooo! 8-0 Reds top 8th.
Yeah.. I’m glad my work schedule is flexible. BP!!!! Cruisin now boys.
@Steve Mancuso: This is playoffs.
With the Stubbs triple, all the starters have now contributed at the plate.
Except for Arroyo. What a schlub at the plate…
Thank you may I have another?
WHERE ARE MY BELOVED REDLEGS AND WHAT HAVE THESE MASHING IMPOSTORS DONE WITH THEM?!
All I got say, thank you Bruce Bochy for going to Mota. I’m sure Giant’s fan sites are in a middle of a freakout on that decision.
I think that maybe what this team needed was a little adversity. Votto goes down, they bear down. Cueto goes out, they bear down.
Coincidence, maybe. But these guys seem to respond when bad things happen. That’s an amazing attribute.
So, when Cueto comes back, whom do you hope gets hurt next?
Just a joke, really.
Great observation.
Woah guys, cool it, might want to save up some of those runs for Tuesday… and for the Nationals.
Wilson Valdez. The MLB equivalent of the slaughter rule.
Wilson Valdez. The MLB equivalent of the slaughter rule.
I hope this Valdez thing is happening to just give him some reps
Valdez is a rally killer.
I think they sent Valdez out to speed up the inning so Bronson doesn’t have to work so hard to stay loose.
If only Dusty routinely waited until the Reds were up by 9 to bring in Valdez.
Why do Reds hit well established pitchers better than rookies?
That was a start for the books by Bronson Arroyo. Hopefully Hoover and the pen can keep this quiet and easy to finish the Giants off tonight.
Aubrey Huff…talk about a guy who just took a crap this year
Who wants to play the next game in SF?
Nope. I want them to finish this at home. It will be a roar the likes of which has not been heard in a while.
This.
Homer Bailey
To tell you the truth, I don’t care much for putting Frazier in the game during garbage time, like he’s some sort of scrub. I just don’t like it.
Dusty can really do no wrong so far in the playoffs. Maybe he does know what he’s doing and handicaps the team during the regular season just for the fun in the challenge.
@Sergeant2: So you would rather him go a week without playing? I do aggre that he’s good.
I don’t know if one at bat is going to shake off any rust. By the way it agree not “aggre”
I’m having so much fun I can’t handle it. I hate that it’s been years and years and years since I’ve had this much fun.
Let’s not mess up that beautiful 0 on the board.
@Mwv: Totaly, Totaly.
Down 9 runs, runner on first and 2 outs. They cheer.
Love Hoover’s future with the Reds.
@Sergeant2: I was a little… nonplussed… that Valdez pinch hit instead of Frazier. I mean, I don’t wanna be that guy, but Dusty’s just so darned, uh Dusty-esque. I can’t hep it.
I am leaving work early Tuesday to watch this sweep.
Good job by Hoover there, I’d figure it will be Ondru in the 9th.
Hate to see walks but I do like getting Hoover some work in October to get a little confidence. He’s been so good for us in limited time this year.
Simply put, this is one of the best Reds games ever. Definitely in my top 10.
I have one complaint: in between innings, they take so much time for commercials that I could go out and jog a very slow mile and not miss a single pitch.
I would like to have seen Arroyo get the complete game, but this is the playoffs and the Reds have the best bullpen in baseball. In the playoffs it would be stupid not to use overwhelming firepower to defeat your enemy if you have the arsenal to do so.
They should have used that reliver in the 7th inning.
Wow, Todd crushed that.. nice play at third.
Wilson’s beard – holy crap, is that amazing. Dude could be a Civil War general…
@SGT Ethan:
he probably was. if there’s one man on earth that has discovered either black magic to keep one immortal or developed a legitimate time machine, Brian Wilson is my guess.
I really like how Heisey ran out that pop foul.
Romo has grown one in his place now too, of course thankfully Bochy went to him after the game was already 9-0.
That beard.
What is wrong with Brian Wilson? Not his arm, I mean, just in general, what’s his issue?
What are you rebelling against?
Down 9 nothing they STILL CHEER.
@RC: His dad was apparently a huge perfectionist, and his personality kind of rebelled against that.
@RC: Read a story awhile back on ESPN I think. His dad was an army dad, used to make Brian shovel his driveway in Vermont(or whatever northeasern state he’s from) over and over again, or go and cut down trees for hours for disciplinary purposes. His father passed away from sickness(cancer I believe) and he’s now this outlandish personality. Really very fascinating.
If the Reds do end up winning this series, am I the only one who hopes the Cards beat the Nats in a hard fought 5 game series?
The Cards scare me a little less than the Nats, plus if they go 5 games it should (theoretically) wear them down a bit before they face the Reds.
You are not the only one. I want to beat the WLB and have them feel the shame of the Reds champagne, hopefully hitting Carpenter with a cork or 2
If that happened, I’m not sure how he would explain it to his son.
Wilson’s problem is he became a legend in his own mind.
Last out, STILL CHEERING.
@CI3J: I’m personally scared of either one of them, because I don’t want to play the Nats, but I REALLY don’t want to play the team who can beat the Nats.
The fact of the matter is neither one of those teams want to have to play the Reds.
“Valdez to Cairo for the out”. How unlikely I would enjoy seeing this in a playoff game.
Way to go, DO NOT LET POSEY BEAT YOU!!
Longest. Half inning. Ever.
Guys with legs that skinny should not opt for the high socks.
Arredondo isn’t very good. I haven’t felt good with him in the game for a long time. Not since ondrusek was good too.
Well Giants, enjoy the plane ride to Cincinnati. Try not to be too demoralized.
REDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS WINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!
Whew…I’m glad to see the Reds get that win in the books.
Go get ‘em Tuesday and finish them off.
Wooooooooooooo! 2-0. Domination. Looking forward to the next game. What a year, what a year.. what a year. Night guys.
Shut out, huge bats, HUGE win – boy would it be nice to give Cueto more time to heal up!
Good Night!!!
What a great win. This win chased away some demons, for sure. Can’t wait for Tuesday.
Looking good, my friends looking good. Looking forward to Tuesday. Go Cincinnati Redlegs Go!! Adios Amigos.
@CI3J:
Comment. Of. The. Night.
At first, I wanted the Nats. But even though I think the Cards are tougher, the satisfaction of sweeping them in a fourth game at their place makes me grin. BP delivers the walk off homer after Cueto/Carpenter pitch almost a complete game shutouts… I would cry.
Just get rid of the Cards now, and let the two best teams in the division play heads-up in the NLCS.
