Minor League Player of the Day:: Billings LF Jesse Winker went 3-4 and hit 2 homers. His slash line is .335/.448/.482/.930 with 4 homers. He has 38 walks and 44 strikeouts. Winker has been pretty darn consistent, with OPS over .900 each month of the Billings’ season.

AAA

Columbus 2 – Louisville 0

Not a good sign when you have as many errors as you have hits (3).

Nice start by Todd Redmond (5 IP 0 R 5 H 2 BB 2 K). Scoreless inning by Bill Bray.

Logan Ondrusek took the loss, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. He also gave up a homer.

AA

Isaac rained the Blue Wahoos out at Mississippi.

High A

Bakersfield 10 – Visalia 6

Another good night for the Blaze’s bullpen, with Michael Dennhardt throwing 2 one-hit, shutout innings, followed by Blaine Howell, who picked up the win with 2 no-hit innings. Andrew Brackman threw a perfect 9th.

Low A

Dayton 9 – West Michigan 3

Joey Votto‘s presence seems to have brought out the best in the Dragons offense as they exploded for 15 hits….though Joey went 0-1 with a walk. Joey struck out in his second AB.

Juan Silva went 3-4 with a double, homer, and 3 RBI. Nick O’Shea went 3-4 and Sammy Diaz went 2-5. Yorman Rodriguez went 1-4 with a homer.

Andrew Brackman back to the pen and looking like his career may not be done afterall. That is cool.

@rightsaidred: Brackman has been in the bullpen for quite a while now and despite his last two appearances (a grand total of 2.2 innings), he hasn’t performed even close to good from the bullpen against low A hitters. I think we can probably put a fork in him and declare him done.

I was disappointed that Votto was pulled in the 5th inning for a pinch hitter. I know he was only scheduled to go 5 innings, but why not let him hit again in the 5th before he was pulled. I certainly hope he wasn’t pulled because of any discomfort or worse (knock on the old wooden noggin). In the 3rd, I had to giggle at the opposing pitcher’s plight. He gets a SO of Votto, the best hitter in the universe, then viola, he gives up back to back HR to the next two batters. I’m thinking a little loss of concentration maybe?

Looking forward to watching Jesse play in Dayton next year. Wow! 18 years old and mashing.

@BloodyHo: He’s struggled his entire professional career. His numbers have never been all that great, even while working his way through the minors the first time through in the Yankee’s organization. I don’t understand what’s wrong. He’s got all the talent in the world, but just can’t seem to figure it out. I think the Reds see him as a special project. It would be a shame to see him fail.

  • Theer will probably be a lot of games rained out over the week/weekend as Isaac makes its way North.

  • I asked about the Arizona Fall League yesterday…apparently they’re making roster decisions now, because I just read a tweet from Donald Lutz that he was invited to the AFL.

  • Jamie Ramsey of the Reds gave the full list of participating players via twitter. He started with Billy Hamilton and added:

Other #Reds prospects competing in 2012 AFL: Curtis Partch, Drew Hayes, Didi Gregorius and Donald Lutz. They’ll play for Peoria.

Jocketty said. “He’s (Hamilton) going to go to instructional league and the fall league. He needs a little break. There are a lot of variables involved.”

Asked whether Hamilton could be playing somewhere other than shortstop after the season, Jocketty replied, “possibly.”

      WOW!!! 8O :!: :D

One little word can speak volumes…’possibly’.
