@RedLeg75: I do wonder what, if anything, could change his mind about the top of the order? You have to believe it will take 5+ runs to win this thing today and it’s going to be a battle. One bright note: Leake will be hitting.

Nothing will ever change his mind. I think that’s been made abundantly clear. The only way Cozart and Stubbs don’t bat at the top is if they get leg injuries or are traded off the team in some manner.

The only positive thing I can say about Mr. Stubbs lately – his K’s have become more efficient, as the days pass. There is “always” a silver lining. Sometimes you do have to squint to see it.

I have to agree. Baker will keep plugging them in. Walt will have to force the change.

As much as I hate it, until Votto comes back I don’t know what better option there is at the top of the lineup. You need BP batting in the middle somewhere. Other than that your best hitters are Ryan Hanigan (who, I’m sorry, I actually think would “clog the bases” because of his speed), Ryan Ludwick (who is absolutely not a top of the lineup hitter), and Todd Frazier (who MIGHT work in that spot, but he’s also having TREMENDOUS success as a power hitter in the middle of the lineup and you hate to mess with that). For the moment I actually think Dusty is doing the right thing. The failure is on Walt for not finding a way to get a proper leadoff guy on the roster. We probably should have tried harder to cut ties with Stubbs and get a replacement like Pierre or Victorino in before the deadline.
Now, when Votto comes back if Dusty refuses to move BP to the top of the lineup then he’s just being purposefully stubborn. The idea of moving him back to cleanup and pushing Ludwick and Frazier down just to continue his experiment with Cozart is ridiculous.

I can understand what you mean. But, I would go with most anyone else still. I would even go with Heisey or even Paul up there.

Then you’re starting Hesisey or Paul everyday. Heisey has been AWFUL when given any extended chance to start and, as great as Paul has been off the bench, I really can’t see a guy who was just cut from another AAA team two months ago being plugged in as the everyday starting CF and leadoff hitter for a first place team in September. There isn’t a manager in baseball that would make that move at this point in the season. We missed our chance at getting a real leadoff hitter, now we have to live with what we have for a few more weeks and hope Dusty does the right thing when Joey comes back.

I can live with Cozart up top. I don’t like it but I can live with it for reasons stated. Why not try Frazier at #2 though? We usually bat him down at 6 or 7 anyway, it’s not like it’ll kill our production.

THe ONLY reason I wouldn’t put Frazier up front is that he’s settled in very well to his role in the middle. If he wasn’t a rookie I’d give it a shot, but he’s developing so well where he’s at that I think Dusty’s right to leave him where he is. He’s maturing into a true power hitter and I think that’s probably where he’ll have the most value, especially if he sticks at 3B. But it’s a perfectly valid suggestion.
On another note, why on earth is Navarro starting this game? You know either Valdez or Cairo or both are going to start tomorrow. Why does Dusty insist on trotting out weak lineups for important games?

Yeah the only reason I say let him have a crack at #2 is because he’s already been placed at 3, 5, 6, 7 this year. I doubt moving him to #2 would bother him.

Heisey’s extended chance to start, earlier this year, before Ludwick had his turn, if you can call starting 32 out of 42 games (I do), Heisey batted 288/324. I will take that.

I disagee. Why can’t you put BP 1 or 2? Heck you could easily bat Rolen 1st or 2nd. He’s a good baserunner and knows how to take a walk. Between Rolen, BP, Frazier, or Hanigan you can come up with a better 1-2 than what we have.
I am very nervous about this game. With St. Louis’ offense and Bailey’s penchant for blowing it at GABP, this game is a must-win in my mind. Lose this and we could easily get swept tomorrow. That would give the Cards a 6-game win streak and all the momentum they need going into September. Not good at all. I really hate that for the second time in a month Baker has failed to get his rotation in place so that Cueto pitches in a crucial division series.
There is a reasonable argument for leaving Cozart up top but I have yet to hear a coherent one defending Stubbs. I’d rather see any of the other eight guys playing today batting second including Leake and, yes, even Navarro. The best Drew can offer right now is an extended AB – pathetic.

THe only argument I can see for Stubbs 2nd is that he’s VERY hard to double up. Early in the season he seemed to have developed the ability to bunt for a base hit, too, though for some reason he never tries it anymore. I’m not saying it’s a good reason to keep him there, but for now it’s not the WORST rationale I’ve ever heard. I just think we have to live with this until Votto comes back. If Baker makes a boneheaded lineup decision at that point then we can all go nuts.

Dusty said Votto is very, very close. You got to wonder if they activate him Monday.

That is a good point, Eric. I just don’t think it is worth all the other opportunities we waste with him in that position. It’s sort of like when Bruce was going good, Baker wouldn’t bat Bruce and Votto back to back only because in a close game, late in the innings, if we are threatening, then the other team can bring out their loogy. Too many variables to consider trying to reason not to do it.
Eric – I honestly believe if he batted 8th, it might work.
Dusty said he didn’t want to bat Stubbs 7th because if he got on and stole 2nd, the opponent would intentionally walk the #8 hitter to get to the pitcher.
I guess having 1st and 2nd and no outs with the pitcher up is a bad thing.

Not to split hairs but it is the 8th spot I’m speaking of. I really don’t think DS would make much of a 7th hitter either. I guess Dusty automatically rules out that spot because Drew is not a catcher. Same with the interviewer, apparently.
I hate to dog any player doing something I couldn’t do myself, but my goodness they need to do something with Stubbs. I love Dusty Baker too, but if they put him hitting in front of Votto when he comes back, it will be a crime.

He did it the entire season until Votto’s injury, no reason to think he won’t.

@MilnersGhost: I really don’t intend to dog the guy just think he is miscast. If he was hitting eighth, it would probably be effective. Actually I think he would make a more than decent 9th hitter in the AL.
@RedForever: And saying things like that is exactly why Dusty gets so much grief on here (amonst other places). He is so irrational, it’s physically exhausting to listen to him try to rationalize his maagerial decisions.

I agree. I almost prefer it when he just says “It’s my lineup card, leave me alone.” At least that sentence makes sense to me.
No, but that throw was not going to get the runner. Navarro did a decent job with the fake to hold the runner at third while Leake caught up with the ball.
Red Sox acquired RHP Allan Webster, INF Ivan DeJesus Jr., 1B James Loney and two players to be named later from the Dodgers for 1B Adrian Gonzalez, RHP Josh Beckett, OF Carl Crawford, INF Nick Punto and cash considerations.

Such a stupid deal for the Dodgers. I read they’re taking on almost $300 million in salary obligations and getting something like $14 million in cash from the Sox. Plus giving up 2 stud pitching prospects, all for a bunch of guys who are 2 years removed from good seasons. Yankees of the West…
I think if any of us were asked if Leake was going to hold the Cards to 1 run in 5 innings we would have been doubtful and more than happy with that result. Good outing for him so far today despite getting into some trouble.
Marty:too bad nobody else can hit Garcia except Mike Leake. He is really tough to listen to now. He and Jeff are just relentlessly negative. Is there something in the water?
Marty certainly doesn’t mince words.I like that.Brutally honest.
Says he can’t believe this team would be better with Stubbs in center than Bruce in center, Ludwick in right and Frazier in left.
He has a point.
Probably just me, but my guess is the more people call for that the less likely it is it will happen. Dusty’s way of letting everyone know who’s in control. We get it Dusty – it’s you.
The fact that Stubbs will be starting once Votto gets back and Frazier will be on the bench is criminal.
I believe thats 6 straight strikeouts. I’m usually a very positive person, but I have had it with him this year, he just doesn’t have it and it doesn’t appear he will ever figure it out.
Also, I don’t condone this activity on a regular basis, but Fox’s Baseball Saturday in Selected Markets is infinitely stupid. If they only got to pick one game like ESPN, or stream it like ESPN, it would be fine.

Same thing sunday night with ESPN. They pay like a billion dollars and they get this exclusive block.
Same thing sunday night with ESPN.They pay like a billion dollars and they get this exclusive block.
At least ESPN just airs the one game. Calling the Fox Saturday games “national” and then dividing them up by region and blacking out the rest of the country doesn’t make any sense. How does that help Fox or MLB make money by blacking out 2/3 of the people who might want to watch the game?
Until Votto returns, how about getting XP a couple of looks in CF? Or put Bruce in CF, Luds in RF and XP in LF until Votto returns to see if Jay can hack it? Ain’t going to happen but it would at least be interesting. No?
Bruuuuuuce! I had a feeling after seeing Garcia get frustrated at the Frazier call, Bruce could take advantage.
I was actually basing that on the first few pitches of the inning. He was throwing higher pitches than earlier in the game and he doesn’t throw hard enough to be up there against Bruce.
I’m totally fine with Mes getting sent to Louisville for a week or so and I’m fine with Navarro being the backup catcher while he’s there, but Dusty can’t just stick Navarro in the platoon like there’s nothing different. Hanigan should be starting unless he’s not physically able to.

Second.
Even with Mes back, Hani ought to be the undisputed starter for the rest of the season. Wish he could enter the game now.

I think he’s just honestly needing rest right now. He’s played a lot of games in a row and some of them were pretty hard on him. I know he’s had a few collisions and plays at the plate, balls fouled off his mask, etc. Not trying to justify Dusty being Dusty but I don’t mind Hanigan getting some time off. Now as to when he should get that time off? Well, I think I’d rather it be against teams that aren’t in second place in our division.

Yeah, gotta think the heat of August has to wear on a guy back there. Don’t think Navarro is going to cost us much, it’s worth having a fresh Hanigan in the Fall.

I am pretty sure Dusty is making sure Hanigan does not get to that point. Sparky Anderson said one of his biggest regrets as a manager is how he wore Bench out. I do not think a catcher can realistically catch 4 out 5 days especially one that has never been used to it. Navarro can hit, give him 25 AB’s and I think we see something better than .250
Okay… who is available in the bullpen. I suspect this game is going to have Dusty working his magic if any Cards get a hit off Leake.
I do not know what is going to happen, but I am sure Dusty will make me saw WHAT?
Good thing, Like I said I think hitters should get out of their own mess.
Great chance to 2nd guess Dusty, I agree take Leake out here, now how many batters does Marshall get?
I am all for letting a pitcher get out of his mess, if marshall comes what is the over/under he gets to complete an inning he started.
I do not like it when Dusty has to start tinkering, there probably will be a double switch as well
So frustrating if Marshall is only here for one out again and then later we have to turn things over to Jose or Sam.Complete waste.
Agree, I have posted several fearing Dusty tinkerings. I say Marshall starts the 8th, faces the first 3 no matter what. He gets a leash of at least an out for those 3, I say in the event Furcal comes up with the bases loaded he gets his shot.
But can Dusty resist the righty-righty match up?
Seems amazing that Heisey is only hitting .277 with an on base of .317. From looking around here, it seems he goes 3 for 4 every single start yet rides the pine the rest of the time.
Can Paul play CF? At least that might make a difference. My only experience watching Paul in the OF was when he looked like a wasp flying around in a random path trying to catch that fly ball that got blown about 80 feet towards right field in Wrigley. Doesn’t seem fair to judge on that.
Hey, remember, Baker gave Gomes over a season, with the quote, “He’s got a bat that can carry a team.” So, I guess, for Stubbs, “He’s got the speed that can carry a team.”
I read some people saying that Reds players really dislike the venom coming from Reds fans. And that it might even make some difference in trying to get players to play here.
If the players really are bothered by it, how about another idea. The Reds go to Marty and tell him to knock it off or he’s fired. Tell him it’s fine to criticize players at times, but that he is way way way over the line.

Tell the Hall of Famer he might be fired? You cannot be serious. Were you watching during that haircut?

Who would not come to Cincinnati because of the fans and the Radio announcer?
Hey, Stubbs did make contact on 2 pitches today. Granted, they were for fouls, but just another inch on the bat, and those things are going for at least a fair balls.
I really feel it is time for a Paul/Heisey platoom, bring Stubbs in as a defensive replacement. They need to get some at bats. Frazier gives everybody a rest plays 5 out 6 games. Reds pull this out and win tomorrow its about keeping everybody fresh for October.
I was thinking the same thing, I find myself rooting for a strikeout. If he gets a hit next inning, then we are stuck with him. I think he would be a great bench player but I really question what Heisey cannot do given the oppotunity to hit where Stubbs has.

I’m really not a Stubbs hater I just get frustrated with him sometimes. When he was hot earlier in the year I was enjoying it a lot.

When was he hot?, I am not recalling anything close to Frazier-eque hotness outside of some CoCo majic. And unless you get a guy stealing 80+ bases, you do not play speed. I was doubting all the bashers, but with Heisey/Paul and potentially Frazier on your bench I see no reason why he is an everyday player.
@vicferrari: I’m reporting what I have heard from people regarding how much the players dislike the fan venom. I was not saying I was sure players would not come. But if they really do not like constant criticism, then I am assuming they don’t like it from the guy who announces nearly every inning. Maybe that’s wrong.
Hall of Famer, for talking on the radio. Not quite the same as telling Joe Morgan to knock it off, sorry. Literally thousands of people could do the job that Marty does. No one can do the job that an actual Hall of Fame player could do.
“I read some people saying that Reds players really dislike the venom coming from Reds fans. And that it might even make some difference in trying to get players to play here.”
This is either a joke or these “people” do not understand professional sports. Clearly they’ve never seen what goes on in large markets. Reds fans are mild. These guys are pros; they don’t care what the fans say and/or what the announcers are talking about.
See, now here’s where I know I’d be a terrible manager. If it was me, I’d have Chapman in for the 9th with us blowing them out.. just to send a message.
Cincinnati fans are pussycats compared to the neanderthal fans in New York, Boston and Philly. When people reach the level of success Marty has risen to they also attract their fair share of critics, who always seem compelled to let the world know how much they dislike that successful person. Nobody Cares.
Stubbs singles so now were stuck with him for another month.
I posted the same thing, felt myself rooting for a K. Possibly going into the abyss and then getting himself out. I was sure he would sit tomorrow, now can you really bench a guy struggling after they get a hit?
How we liking that Cardinal bullpen today. As I said last night, this is not a bullpen that’s going help this team go 26-12. And the Reds are going to play above .500 easily.
@Sergeant2: So people who think Marty is too negative are jealous of his success? That is the last thing on my mind. Yeah, sure, I don’t believe a hall-of-fame announcer is that big of a deal. Not the same thing as being jealous.
Marty is an exceptional radio play by play announcer with almost no peers. You never wonder what’s happening on a play. But he is mean spirited in terms of his announcing, at least these days, and that is what I’m objecting to. I listen to him less often because it gets old.

Just let it go. If you don’t like Marty that’s fine but saying silly things like lots of people can do what he does isn’t going to win you any sympathy here. Marty is a legend, as was Joe. It’s not just announcing.
It is reasonable for Heisey to get a few more starts…just to get him going. Yet, there is obvious preference to play and endure the hardships of higher round draft picks to validate the organization’s choices and investment! Stubbs will come around eventually…perhaps another 1200 ABs.

I have to disagree. You put the players out there who put the team in the best position to win the game. You put the players in the best positions to be successful. Nothing to be successful about with Stubbs.
@Mwv: Come to think of it, the comments here are a lot like Marty. Should have realized that. Instead of hearing Marty cap on Drew Stubbs all day, I can come here.
@Hank’s teammate: So when you said, “I read some people…” you really meant, “I think”.
Not bashing your opinion, I just want to be clear. No one else really thinks that, right? Or do you have a link to the article/source?
Back on topic…great finsish by the Bullpen. Makes me feel a lot better than the last week or so. I could have stood to have Marshall just stay in the next inning, but when his position in the order came up there was no reason to leave him in.
All of sudden I feel a bit batter about the bullpen if Broxton can be a reliable set-up guy. If JJ, Lecure, and Simon are battling Arrenondo for the 4th guy role a pretty deep bullpen. The key is Broxton.
Gonna be a go of it tomorrow with Wainright on the mound for the Cards. Going to be a fun game to watch, no doubt about it. Wow how bout Hoover striking out the sides. I expect the Reds will take care of bidness tomorrow too. This team does not like to lose AT ALL. (see above) Gonna be a “tough” go of it. Go Reds!!! Adios Amigos
Tomorrow is not a must-win for the Reds, but it just might do-in the Cards should they lose, they have been losing a lot of series lately.
Bullpens should be fresh for both, I suspect we see Cairo at 1st to rest Rolen. What are the odds on Stubbs starting (any chance he is elsewhere in the line-up) What is the over/under on how many K’s
Looked close for a while … glad we found our sticks. Bullpen did “sound” good … I wasn’t able to watch due to MLB TV blackouts (and it wasn’t on cable in my area either).
Here’s to focusing tomorrow, a good road trip, and the return of Lord Votto.
Since tomorrow is not technically a day game after a night game – and given that we’re trying to put our foots on the throats of the WLB’s – I’d really like to see Rolen in the lineup tomorrow & not Cairo. Don’t give an inch. And when we manage to win, rest Scott on Monday.

The Reds really need to find a way to win this one today. That would put all the pressure back onto the Cardinales moving forward.

@Mwv: That is the answer than.
Very good movie by the way – “Wonder Boy”. Better than last nights game it sounds like. I saw the best 5 innings and bailed just in time.
Was just googling, did you mean Boy Wonder? That’s a vigilante movie that came out in 2010.
@Mwv: That’s it.
So, am I the only one who exploded with joy when the fox announcers said that Dusty said that when Votto comes back, BP’s back in the leadoff spot?
I disagee. Why can’t you put BP 1 or 2? Heck you could easily bat Rolen 1st or 2nd. He’s a good baserunner and knows how to take a walk. Between Rolen, BP, Frazier, or Hanigan you can come up with a better 1-2 than what we have.
Gorgeous play there. Cozart is some kind of player in the field.
Haha, okay I’ll have to check it out then.
Needed that clean inning big time. Set the tone for today.
Wow, well done by Leake.
Garcia was nasty in his last outing. Set his career high in Ks with 10. Hopefully our right handed heavy lineups can drive a few out.
Believe it or not before his 3 hit night last night Craig was 0-15 in his career in this park.
Well, Stubbs lasted 4 pitches.
That was an uneventful inning.
Drew Stubbs with another terrible at-bat.
Has anyone ever noticed that our two worst hitters bat at the top of the order?
No, Cairo and Valdez are on the bench.
Another solid inning by Leake.
Well that was easy enough.
@Mwv: Sounds like it’s worth a shot to me.
Nice AB by Rolen.
@Mwv: touchee’.
…and navarro swings at ball 4.
@eric nyc: No offense – maybe not but it is very close to being so. Also he avoids DP’s because making contact lately has been a real struggle.
Hey, someone just said they couldn’t think of any rationale. I offered one. I qualified how I felt about it.
I did qualify it by the word “coherent”.
Just picking. I know I wish there was a justification and yours was a valiant effort, I must say.
Dusty said Votto is very, very close. You got to wonder if they activate him Monday.
Dodgers got Adrian Gonzalez, Carlos Crawford, josh Beckett and Nick Punto from Boston. They also acquired 236 million in payroll.
Nicely done…by Boston!
Are we really bunting Cozart.. for Stubbs? Come on.
Reds have to be the worst bunting team in baseball.
Come on Drew – do something to contribute!
@CharlotteNCRedsFan: Why didn’t we trade for a CF/lead off hitter before the trade deadline? I just need to be reminded.
Because Jim Bowden still runs the front office and he didn’t want to trade our 5-tool future superstar (Stubbs).
Alright Stubbs is beyond awful…I can’t believe we’re going to go into the playoffs with him starting every day…
Eric – I honestly believe if he batted 8th, it might work.
Did not expect this out of Leake. Go man go!!
Wow, Stubbs strikes out …AGAIN!
Please bench him.
@RedForever:
@RedForever:
And again!
Nice job BP, made up for the previous two at bats.
BP loves playing the Cards…
Ump missed that. Phillips was out.
Bah, Ludwick killed that ball. Nice play by Cards there.
Nice to grab the early lead if only by a run.
I just realized I made that sound like Dusty was going to hit….
Great catch by Bruce there, huge.
@RedForever: oh yeah… we should fire him.
Stubbs 0 for 10 with 6 Ks.
Why am I blacked out of seeing this on mlbtv.com? So annoyed by thus all year. I get the braves here on Fox, and get blacked out. Truly annoying.
Leake, 39 pitches through 4 innings
Come one Leake.
I don’t like the Cardinals.
How many conversations do you need with the pitcher at the plate? Bunt or no bunt?
They were discussing that Dodgers trade.
So THAT’S what it looks like from the other side when you can’t get a bunt down.
That Dodger lineup has really changed for the positive over the last couple of weeks, huh? Downright scary.
Navarro will never be confused with Johnny Bench.
Probably irrational of me but I feel like Hanigan could have made that work.
No, but that throw was not going to get the runner. Navarro did a decent job with the fake to hold the runner at third while Leake caught up with the ball.
“Coming in and out of shadows.” Might have the topic for tomorrow’s sermon. Told my wife that watching baseball is valuable to my spiritual walk.
@hoodlum: Saturday afternoon Fox network has the exclusive and sunday night ESPN has the exclusive. Everyone is blacked out for these times.
Garcia missing that bunt was huge. Might have saved us 2 runs. Nice recovery from Leake. Big time.
Good job of damage control.
Not bad for 7 hits through 5. It would be nice to get a couple runs and then Leake shuts them down for 3 more innings.
I think if any of us were asked if Leake was going to hold the Cards to 1 run in 5 innings we would have been doubtful and more than happy with that result. Good outing for him so far today despite getting into some trouble.
Having the exclusive is silly if you black it out. Is there a reason to force me to watch braves when I’d pay to watch redlegs?
Garcia has only given up 2 HR’s all year, time to jinx this trend
Leake can hit. Duh and ain’t pitching too badly today either.
So Mike Leake pretty much has the Silver Slugger locked up at this point huh?
I may have found a nice place to watch the game online and I must say I’m digging the #11 in the dirt.
I’d be entirely okay with Leake in the 2 hole and Stubbs in the 9 hole when he pitches.
Marty, “Leake can hit. Too bad no one else can hit Heime Garcia.”
Let’s make them pay for not executing the DP.
Marty:too bad nobody else can hit Garcia except Mike Leake. He is really tough to listen to now. He and Jeff are just relentlessly negative. Is there something in the water?
3 to 1 Stubbs Ks.
Too easy man. Are we still against Bruce playing CF and Frazier playing right when Votto returns?
I’m all for it. I think Stubbs should be sent to AAA. Been saying it all year.
Drew is getting it done in short order. 3 pitches!!
Stubbs is unreal…
Surprise, surprise.
K in 6 consecutive at bats.
@RichmondRed:
May I ask where?
Stubbs gives us all the strikeouts of Adam Dunn without any HRs. Sweet.
I’d gladly take that too, if he also had Dunn’s 100+ BB.
@preach: you ealize Stubbs is batting, right?
@RiverCity Redleg: *realize
Marty certainly doesn’t mince words. I like that. Brutally honest.
What’s the record for position players with consecutive strike outs?
The fact that Stubbs will be starting once Votto gets back and Frazier will be on the bench is criminal.
I believe thats 6 straight strikeouts. I’m usually a very positive person, but I have had it with him this year, he just doesn’t have it and it doesn’t appear he will ever figure it out.
Whoa…Leake got a leadoff hitter out. I might not get an ulcer this inning.
@MilnersGhost: It’s very likely you can find games played right now through your internetbox. Just like on your tv.
Let’s see if I got that right.
Heisey can go 3 for 4 and sit for a week. Stubbs can strikeout six times in a row and still start the next day. Come-on. It’s beyond crass now.
At least ESPN just airs the one game. Calling the Fox Saturday games “national” and then dividing them up by region and blacking out the rest of the country doesn’t make any sense. How does that help Fox or MLB make money by blacking out 2/3 of the people who might want to watch the game?
If Leake gives us 7 innings of 1 run baseball then we need to win this game for him because that’s outstanding.
1,2,3. Gotta love it!
That 6th inning was much better than yesterday’s!
I was thinking the same things, let’s reverse some fortune I am all for some back to back homers
Until Votto returns, how about getting XP a couple of looks in CF? Or put Bruce in CF, Luds in RF and XP in LF until Votto returns to see if Jay can hack it? Ain’t going to happen but it would at least be interesting. No?
Wow, one more reason to talk about the Red Sox and Dodgers. Just what ESPN needs.
There we go, let’s get a lead guys!
Wow, Dusty is going to put BP at leadoff? I am ecstatic to hear that assuming it’s true.
Yay!
@RichmondRed: Thank you, kind sir.
Need luds to go yard.
Ludwick just getting it done.
RALLY!!!!
@vared: Thats certainly how it feels. Stubbs is just biding his time till we see the Astros again.
Time for some Super Todd magic…
Got it done. Not pretty but it worked!
Todd Frazier does not respect your baseball team.
Todd Frazier cannot be stopped. You can’t double up Todd Frazier. Todd Frazier will not permit it.
Now Bruce needs to crush one here.
@Mwv: Nice call!
Frazier gets it done, I cannot remember a time when he does not get a runner in from 3rd and I can remember lots of Reds not doing that
Marty is killing Bruce before he even gets to the plate..
Todd Frazier moved the world around him to beat the tag at first.
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be right back guys, I need to go play the lottery.
BRUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!
Clutch!
@MilnersGhost: Woo it’s a good thing Bruce can’t hit lefties, huh?
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuceeeeeeeeeeeeee
Bruuuuuuce! I had a feeling after seeing Garcia get frustrated at the Frazier call, Bruce could take advantage.
I was actually basing that on the first few pitches of the inning. He was throwing higher pitches than earlier in the game and he doesn’t throw hard enough to be up there against Bruce.
@RiverCity Redleg: That Frazier is simply amazing and Jay Bruce ain’t too bad either.
Garcia spent?
It’s not about the runs, it’s about unclogging the bases.
What’s Marty saying now?
Garcia is not happy. Awww, that’s weally, weally, sad…..
@Jared Wynne:
Exactly. I think Jay may have stolen Marty’s Grecian Formula, or something like that.
Navarro can hit, give him 25 AB’s and I think we see something better than .250
Okay Reds make those runs hold up.
Leake didn’t get a hit? What sorcery is that at work?
They won’t pitch to Rolen because the eighthole is a blackole.
Okay… who is available in the bullpen. I suspect this game is going to have Dusty working his magic if any Cards get a hit off Leake.
I do not know what is going to happen, but I am sure Dusty will make me saw WHAT?
Boston shed 263.5 million in salary…mercy!
Of course Marty or Jeff didn’t say anything about putting their foot in their mouth. Ah well, I miss the Ol Lefthander too much.
@RedForever: I bet they don’t are all sitting around wondering “how did we do that?”
Get someone up. now Dusty. Why do I always have to tell Dusty that?
Marshall’s up. We’re going to do our best to win this one.
Nice to hear.
@RedForever: You are the Cialis ofpitcher management!
Marshall now please Dusty. I love Leake but this isn’t June.
Hope he pitches to the next batter.
Good thing, Like I said I think hitters should get out of their own mess.
Great chance to 2nd guess Dusty, I agree take Leake out here, now how many batters does Marshall get?
Bouncing balls through the infield. It happens. Can’t let this get too far.
Is Leake trying to become Arroyo’s double?
Wow. Can’t believe we got that double play, bang bang at first.
I am all for letting a pitcher get out of his mess, if marshall comes what is the over/under he gets to complete an inning he started.
I do not like it when Dusty has to start tinkering, there probably will be a double switch as well
Lover those DP’s.
That is one area that the Reds are vastly superior to the Birds. And that my friends is big.
DP! That takes off some pressure.
Big time start by Mr. Leake. Didn’t see that one coming at all.
The key on that double play was BP didn’t actually catch the ball; but let it touch the glove and bounce straight into his throwing hand.
Yeah, this is the move I make right now too.
You just get no breaks with this lineup.
So frustrating if Marshall is only here for one out again and then later we have to turn things over to Jose or Sam. Complete waste.
@Mwv: Loogy dooby doo!
Excellent job by Leake today. Cannot stress that enough.
Nice game Mr. Leake. Reds needed that. Now the bullpen needs to shut them down.
I want more runs now if he’s not letting Marshall continue.
Stubbs does not want to K for a seventh straight time. Any contact here at all.
Wow. What can you even say about that?
Stubbs can not be in the lineup tomorrow or Dusty needs to be shown the door.
I’m actually having a hard time deciding what I would rather watch… Stubbs batting or the commercials.
Have to know when the best time to go get a beer is.
How long can the Stubbs experiment continue?
Hopefully only until Votto comes back.
Hey, remember, Baker gave Gomes over a season, with the quote, “He’s got a bat that can carry a team.” So, I guess, for Stubbs, “He’s got the speed that can carry a team.”
A GAB HR 4 BP!
Yeah baby! BP having a terrific game. We needed that badly.
BP is poison to the Redbirds.
Me likey BP HR. Now just needs a triple.
Ah yeah, sure. When pigs fly.
Who would not come to Cincinnati because of the fans and the Radio announcer?
Ludwack!
Hey, Stubbs did make contact on 2 pitches today. Granted, they were for fouls, but just another inch on the bat, and those things are going for at least a fair balls.
I think its safe to say BP got his second wind. Now its upward and onward. Go Reds!
Time for Jay’s second?
Double this time.
That is yet another thing that really impresses me about Frazier as a rookie. He is not afraid to take pitches.
I really feel it is time for a Paul/Heisey platoom, bring Stubbs in as a defensive replacement. They need to get some at bats. Frazier gives everybody a rest plays 5 out 6 games. Reds pull this out and win tomorrow its about keeping everybody fresh for October.
Big spot for Scott.
Hah. He wanted no part of Bruce. Come on Rolen!
Rolen!!
There we go! Great Scott!
That puts it out of slam range and gives the opportunity to give Chapman another day off.
Love seeing Rolen come through, gotta lotta respect for Rolen.
Okay I think we can see a righty. Keep Marshall fresh for tomorrow, please no double switches.
Can we get 10?
Odds Stubbs gets to K twice in the same inning?
I was thinking the same thing, I find myself rooting for a strikeout. If he gets a hit next inning, then we are stuck with him. I think he would be a great bench player but I really question what Heisey cannot do given the oppotunity to hit where Stubbs has.
I’m really not a Stubbs hater I just get frustrated with him sometimes. When he was hot earlier in the year I was enjoying it a lot.
When was that? Sure doesn’t happen very often.
I am rooting for Navarro, would be nice to have a switch hitting catcher as a bench option. Not out of reason to go with 3 catchers in the playoffs.
When is the last game you can recall that you felt this relaxed in the 8th?
I’d rather have a 2 run lead over some teams than a 6 run lead over this team. I’d have someone warming up right now.
Little league World Series is tied 15-15 in the 7th. Wow!
Brox looks rusty.
Let’s see if we can get what we traded for.
Marty just called Cowboy a “talking head”. LMAO!
41680 for today’s titanic struggle…41680.
Now we’re talking. One more out big fella.
See, now here’s where I know I’d be a terrible manager. If it was me, I’d have Chapman in for the 9th with us blowing them out.. just to send a message.
Good job, Brox.
Brox bringin the heat baby!
Makes you feel a bit better about Broxton
Around that Astros series when he tore poor Coco apart. He was tearing it up for a week or so there.
Cincinnati fans are pussycats compared to the neanderthal fans in New York, Boston and Philly. When people reach the level of success Marty has risen to they also attract their fair share of critics, who always seem compelled to let the world know how much they dislike that successful person. Nobody Cares.
Maybe Stubbs will get a hit here off of Scrabble…
Haha, listen to that crowd for Stubbs.
Stubbs singles so now were stuck with him for another month.
That’s funny.
I posted the same thing, felt myself rooting for a K. Possibly going into the abyss and then getting himself out. I was sure he would sit tomorrow, now can you really bench a guy struggling after they get a hit?
41,681 on hand for today’s titanic struggle, 41,681.
How we liking that Cardinal bullpen today. As I said last night, this is not a bullpen that’s going help this team go 26-12. And the Reds are going to play above .500 easily.
BP is so good at hitting into double plays. Oh well, fantastic day for him.
Stubbs just bought himself another month of starts with that hit.
That is on Baker’s team.
Hoover has been pretty darn good.
Goodbye St. Louis.
282/321/383 or 200/277/317 vs RHP…pick one for CF tomorrow vs Wainright
