John Fay just reported an interview with JoeyMVP this afternoon. In it, Votto says his recovery is going well and that it won’t be too much longer.
Joey Votto can’t put a specific date on his return, but he sounded pleased with his progress.
“I don’t know,” Votto said. “But I’ve come a long way. I feel like I can’t put day on it. But I feel like I’ve come a long way. I don’t think it will be too much longer.”
The Reds are 26-12 since the All-Star first baseman left the lineup on July 16 for the first of his two knee surgeries.
Also, there is no specific word on whether Miguel Cairo’s not-so-handiwork at first base last night is speeding up the MVP’s time table.

I was waiting to ask about his return on the game thread tonight; last I’d heard was “maybe for the start of the Cards” series. Obviously that isn’t happening. His response sounds like playoff hockey injury talk…vague, vague, vague.
I’m glad Votto is taking things slow and the Reds are winning while he is out of the lineup. I’m glad Votto expects to be back soon even if he’s not sure how soon. I hope Votto is in the dugout tonight. The Birds are in town. The lineup is set. The bats are warmed up. Latos is psyched. Todd is simply SUPER. I’ve been waiting for this series for weeks. Now LET’S PLAY BALL!!!
I still say they are waiting to activate Votto on September 1 so they won’t have to DFA Cairo.
