Moneyball Trailer is Out

Here’s the trailer for the long-anticipated Moneyball movie, in theaters September 23:

It looks pretty great.  At least, once you get past Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s Art Howe eyebrows.  Brad Pitt plays Billy Beane.  Jonah Hill plays “Peter Brand,” the Paul DePodesta character. (DePo said he didn’t want his name on a “fictional character.”  That, or he didn’t want his name on Jonah Hill).

Chris Pratt (Parks & Rec) plays Scott Hatteberg – the highest billed player in the cast, and in a particularly amusing casting decision, former Red Royce Clayton plays Miguel Tejada.

That looks really good! I like the casting of Chris Pratt, he’s awesome.

I always thought someone should make a Josh Hamilton movie.

@JD: That’s funny, I’ve always thought the same thing. I always felt like Heath Ledger would have been the perfect person to play Josh. Unfortunately his untimely death now makes that impossible.

Clayton agreed to be in the movie b/c someone told him any hits he gets in the movie would count towards his career averages. He asked to be Tejada.

Clayton played himself in The Rookie, didn’t he? Does that count?
Oh, but wait — he strikes out in that one. 8)

  • Looks great. Can’t wait to see it.

I don’t know, guys, I can’t see how this movie is going to appeal to the general population (except Brad Pitt, I guess). I mean, I would probably like it, but I’m not a cross section of society.

@Dave Lowenthal: The trailer looks cool, but I actually worry that you (and I) won’t like it, Dave. It could be dumbed down, and turned into much more of a personal story than the book, which was about an idea. Brad Pitt = movie star = Billy The Noble Hero Genius.

  • The trailer looks pretty good in my opinion. I’m sure I’ll be seeing this when it comes out. Perhaps the casting of Brad Pitt will allow husbands to get their wives to go. Perhaps the casting of Jonah Hill will get people to watch it who think its a comedy (similar to Major League).

@Chris Garber: That’s a good point. I hadn’t thought of it that way.

Paul DePodesta had to throw a fit when he saw they casted Jonah Hill to play him. He’s like the complete opposite of DePodesta in every way. I don’t think they cast Ron Washington very well either. They should have a got Dave Chappelle or Eddue Murphy…

I just hope that a little bit of the analysis part rubs off on some of the old school/clueless fans. I know they can’t get real detailed but they’ll touch upon why its foolish to steal bases, sacrifice bunt, etc. This movie could very well make Thom’s head explode.
