Great moment for Chris Heisey

Touching:

Chris Heisey got a bit choked up in the ninth.

He had just hit his first big league homer and taken the field for ninth with Johnny Cueto’s one-hitter the line.

But he thought of his father, Craig, who died in October of 2007 of Lou Gehrig’s disease.

“It hit me,” Heisey said. “I really wished he could be here. But he was here in spirit. He’s in heaven. Hopefully, he was able to watch.”

Heisey was something to watch. He went 3-for-5 with the two-run homer.

Who doesn’t root for Chris Heisey? What a great story.

I met Chris Heisey at a Carolina Mudcats game last year. Got a really nice sense that his mind is in the right place. Good kid who hasn’t been showered with exposure and spoiled like so many up and coming stars

Was very humble…didn’t know about his dad, how ironic him having Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Hope to see him in the OF for a while!

  • I met him at the Reds Winter Caravan in Lexington this year and then saw him again in Louisville on opening day. He is a great player but a great guy as well can’t say that about all of the guys, but I sure can about him.

@BJ Ruble: or anyone else, Are there any just plain ‘jerks’ on the Reds? If there is I haven’t read about it. I know BP can be pissy at times, and when Homer was younger he had a reputation, but for the most part it seems like a good bunch of guys.

  • @CarolinaReds: I know Chris personally….. I was his bus driver when he played basketball (yes, basketball, lol) in high school. He truly IS the guy you met! His father was such a great man….. taught Chris to be the man his is today. We all know that Craig is smiling down on him from heaven and sooooo proud! Chris has a handicapped younger sister, another sister who just graduated from college, and a brother the same age as my daughter who is a junior in high school. Chris is such an inspiration to all who know him….. not because he is a major league ball player, but because he is a good man, awesome son who helps his mom every chance he gets with his siblings and whatever she needs help with around their home, devoted husband to his wife Lisa and great friend all around. His humble attitude is real folks….. what you see is what you get with Chris. We wish him all the success imaginable! Keep rooting for him!!!!!!!!! They don’t come any better!
