Never in a million years

Mike Lincoln as the fifth starter? Yonder Alonso at catcher? Never in a million years.

I love it when Dusty Baker runs his mouth.

I can’t believe this guy is a major league manager. When he opens his mouth, nonsense typically comes forth.

    @The Mad Hatter: Bingo…

I read that earlier and was dumbfounded. Catcher is not a position that you can just pick up, especially at the professional level…

funny that he can come up with these crazy ideas and the media thinks they are OK enough to publish them unquestioned yet the ideas of moving Phillips to SS or Votto to LF are considered out of the question

Hey, why not? After all, DB made PJ into a pitcher!

Wait a minute, I already thought Paul Janish was going to be our fifth starter!

  • @mike: My thoughts exactly.

If Alonso is on our major league roster, perhaps Toothpick is talking noise trying to play up some versatility so that we can get more in a trade? Where is he going to play at this point? Unless you make the move and move Joey to LF. Should have been tried at some point last season.

It seems like if we were talking about moving people around we would look at Owings.

Dusty?! You know, yesterday I was happy, today I’m getting a bit frustrated. I think at some point this winter they had an OSM because Alonso is a year away. What do you do? What do you do? The conversation went something like this, “So, we’ve got these two guys at 1st base who can’t play anywhere else. What do we do? I know, move Alonso to catcher and Votto to left field, then trade for another 1st base.” This is going to end well.

Terry Reynolds said they are thinking about giving Alonso a tryout at the corner outfield spots. HINT TO MANAGEMENT: Think Left.

I don’t even know what to do with the Lincoln comment. :?

Maybe this idea of Lincoln as a SP, is in an attempt to blow his arm out again…Thus having hime spend another yr spent on the DL. Dusty’s brilliant!

To say that was a bad 2yr deal, is an understatement. This wreck of a deal makes Taveras’ look like a winner for the REDS. They should have known better… Hell, Even I know you never sign KNOWN INJURY PRONE RP ARMS to multi-yr deals.

I’m going to miss these Dusty-isms when they fire him this year.

Dusty does make out stupid lineups and makes some stupid game time decisions, but he is not nearly dumb enough to think that Mike Lincoln has a shot at being our 5th starter. Maybe this is part of his secret plan to get Lincoln DFAed before the season starts.
Make him a candidate for the starting rotation, and when that doesn’t work out, go to WJ and say: “No room for him in the bullpen either, with the way those other guys have been pitching.”

I saw 1 year 4 million with 3 million option and 1 million buy out.

A few random thoughts on what else will never happen in a million years:

    1) DB bats anyone other than the CF leadoff & SS 2nd
    2) The Reds DFA WT
    3) Orlanda Cabrera makes us forget PJ’s glove & arm
    4) DB takes this team to a playoff spot

Here’s the Nation’s link to the ‘08 article by Mark Sheldon. Sheldon makes the claim that Alonso can play both third and catcher as well as first. http://redlegnation.com/2008/06/05/reds-take-um-1b-yonder-alonso-in-first-round/

Given the fact Alonso played and started every game of his Miami career at 1B, my best thought is that someone within the organization told Sheldon that Alonso could play catcher as far back as June, 2008. So, it really shouldn’t surprise anyone that Dusty Baker said what he did.

Wow, the Reds didn’t DFA WT, but the A’s surely didn’t hesitate to! Did not think anyone wanted to trade for WT, and in the end the A’s didn’t want him they wanted Rosales!
