WORLD: I’ve known Jack Billingham for over twenty years and I could not believe he would ever hit a triple. I say this with love and affection but he can’t hit and he can’t run.

:)

Billingham had 8 doubles, his only extra base hits, in 13 yeras/656 plate appearances. The odd part is he only struck out 20-30 times a year
that means he had 400-500 ground outs/fly outs.

Bench is reputed to be the first catcher to make one handed catches on throws from the OF and make a swipe tag. He was very quick and athletic behind the plate.

Leg out a triple? He never did.

Nor did he ever hit a homer.

Jack could throw the hell out of baseball but a career .111 average sorta tells the story at the plate.

I wish you guys could know him. He's really a nice guy. A super human being.

Happy Thanksgiving.

interesting semi-related note
tonight the MLB channel showed the 1st game of the 1970 Reds/Orioles series

I had never seen this game as I was too young and somehow never watched a recording.
Nolan I thought pitched well in the 1st game but gave up HRs.

there were a number of things I noticed about the similarities/differences between current baseball and baseball from nearly 40 years ago

The strike zone was HUGE. Tons of pitches off the plate called strikes. Hitters wouldn't take that today and not a single hitter complained in the slightest during the game.

Lots of batters DID NOT run-it-out to 1B. Gee...and people complain about it these days. @%#$%^#$% Rose didn't run out a few!!!!!!!!!! Yea, mr I cheated and am making $$$ off the fact that I cheated, and I know I'm nick-named charlie hustle, did not hustle.

Nolan was good. I liked his Ks throwing fastballs on the outside of the plate

Bench looked mediocre behind the plate and honestly I don't remember, other than him having a great arm. Was he a good defender as a C?

Perez was clearly NOT a 3B. This seems to have followed the Reds, who have had lots of good bats at 3B with no gloves. But now we have a washed up guy there who can still pick-it.

May made some great plays at 1B in that 1st World Series game

The announcing was SOOO much better than today's idiots babbling away saying incorrect things.

1970 World Series game 1 and it was in black-n-white??? That was a shocker. Color TV was the norm by then.

The stands were not full and the commentator even mentioned on a HR to RF that "those seats were football seats and that's why they were empty" WOW!!!!!

why am I pulling for the 1990 underdog in our simulated series?? :)
