Good news for me

It’s bad news for Bill (editor here at RN and Sarasota-lover) but this worked out well for me, personally:

The Reds are selling the their Florida State League affiliate to the Pirates. The Sarasota Reds will become the Bradenton Reds.

To replace the high Single-A team, the Reds will take over the Pirates’ Lynchburg team in the Carolina League.

Lynchburg is closer to me, and I travel past there at least a couple of times a summer as I’m going to conferences. Also, my brother lives a short drive away from there, so it’ll give me an excuse to go visit him.

I’ve been to that stadium in Lynchburg; it’s pretty nice for a single-A club. I’ll hunt up some pictures later.

Good news for me too!! I live in Charlottesville, so Lynchburg is the closest pro baseball I’ve got! (About an hour south of here.)

    Very cool news, selfishly.

I agree, too — nice stadium. Very blue-collar, like the town, so it’s not frilly but it’s nice.

Good cheap tickets too, and plenty of good seats available, as they say…

I too will be able to see two Reds Minor Leagues teams more easily now (Carolina and Lynchburg) since I live in Virginia (Williamsburg) as well.

It’s about two hours for me. Maybe I’ll be able to drag the wife and little one to a game once in a while. I’ve never been to Poplar Forest either, so it would be a good excuse to do a couple of things in/near Lynchburg.

I’m disappointed that the Richmond Flying Squirrels don’t play the Mudcats at all though.

I understrand the move, but do hate to see the retreat from Flordia though. Some many Ohioans end up done there, either for retirement or in the winter, it seemed like a good fit.

We’re not retired, but have been in FL since ‘83. Sad to see the Florida State League with no Reds.

    Pirates??

  • That’s excellent news! I’m a Liberty U alum so this will make going back to visit all the more appealing!
