Game Thread: Marlins at Reds — 2009.09.20

Last game of the homestand today. Also the last game of a series that the Reds could easily have swept; instead, the good guys are trying to salvage a split today.

No television broadcast today, unless I’m mistaken (and I’ve never been wrong in my life). Discuss the baseball and football games here.

There’s that battery again — Kip and Corky. Don’t they sound intimidating??
I’m hoping they are today.

For real? or do I detect a note of sarcasm…

  • 7 of the 8 HR by Stubbs have been at home despite having more PA on the road

    1.031 OPS at home
    .566 OPS on the road

So Corky can be downright intimidating after all 8O

    @mike:
Are you really trying to imply that Stubbs’ homers have benefitted being hit at GABP? I think you need to look back at the video replays of those homers. Each and every-one that I observed are homers anywhere in this league. I would have slightly agreed if his double today would have cleared the fence, but his homers have all been legit by my eyes.

    Well said!
Is this the Wells “getting better as he gets tired” effect we’re seeing (hearing)? Good defense definitely helped him early in the game, but he does seem stronger now…

This is absolutely not the same on radio :x

Let’s see if Dusty lets Wells stay in to, oh, I’ll go with 140 pitches.
Hopefully the game ends before that happens

    Fire Dusty Baker

But who do you think will be in CF at the start of next season?

    Who will or who should?

The only way Stubbs starts in CF next season is if Dusty Baker gets fired.

Was at Joe Posnanski’s book signing in Norwood today. He’s an entertaining speaker (well, he WAS talking about the 1975 Reds). I’ve been a long time fan of his blog. Haven’t started The Machine yet, but that will change tonight – can’t wait.

I’ve been travelling this past weekend and missed the last 2 games, but caught up just now. A nice game by the good guys today. Stubbs and Rolen look awesome on the defensive hilites.

But what an unsatisfying split. Could so easily have been a sweep, and we simply should not have lost on Friday nite. The Marlins were nervous and pressing, we let them off the hook (so to speak) twice, with a BIG assist each time from our manager’s handling of the pitching staff.

Splitting a series with a contending team with a winning record has to be looked at as a plus.

No, we should have won all four, it is games 2 and 3 that show our manager has no ability or trust in his bullpin outside of Coco which is sad.
