Time for a recap of tonight’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Florida 2
Cincinnati 3
WP: Maloney (1-4)
LP: Sanchez (2-7)
S: Cordero (38)
BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Smilin’ side of the scoreboard!
–Big Redleg Nation congratulations to Matt Maloney, who picked up his first major league win tonight. Maloney gave up 7 hits and 2 runs over five innings.
–Homer for Darnell McDonald, his second. Darnell went 2-3 with a walk from the leadoff spot. He’s clearly a better leadoff hitter than Willy Taveras…although that really isn’t a very high bar to leap over.
–Four scoreless innings by the bullpen — Ramon Ramirez, Arthur Rhodes, Nick Masset, CoCo — with only a single hit allowed (by Rhodes). By and large, the bullpen has been a big shining bright spot for this team in 2009.
NEGATIVES
–TOS.
ETC.
–That’s four wins in a row, and suddenly the Reds are back on a roll. Chad is happy about that.
–It was great to see Tony Perez back in Cincinnati. He was wearing the wrong uniform and sitting in the wrong dugout, but it’s always good to see the Big Dog.
–Only 9,865 fans there tonight. I’m surprised there weren’t more, especially since the Reds have added a sweet fruit stand.

I missed the game. Why did Stubbs need a night off?
Just marinatin’….
Stubbs presumably got a rest day. I don’t mind his getting one with the team playing 17 days in a row.
I will very much mind if he starts getting days off because Willie T. is back.
John Fay put it well in his blog:
“Darnell McDonald saw six pitches before hitting one out to left for his second home run of the year. It was Reds’ third leadoff homer of the year. Willy Taveras has 0.0 of the three.”
I don’t think WT could manage 0.5.
You understand you may to retire the sombrero after this off season. Hope that is not the case but…
Really nice work by the bullpen against a good lineup. Good thing since we couldn’t score after the first.
How good is Masset, huh? What a great season for him.
Huge double play on the Hanley line drive.
