Are any of you planning to watch Homer Bailey face the Cubs this afternoon? Or will you be watching the Bengals host Denver to open the NFL season?
Discuss either of those games right here.
UPDATE: Today is my first Sunday as a fantasy football owner (which means I can no longer make fun of people who play fantasy football). I didn’t pick any Bengals for my team, if you can believe that. One of the other RN editors, however, is guilty of selecting 85. Child, please.
Do any of you play fantasy baseball?

I’ll watch Homer ..I will NEVER waste my time on NFL Football or the Bengals .. I hear they might be locked out in 2011 … I can only hope !
The best thing about the Bengals is that they make you feel better about the Reds.
I haven’t played fantasy football in 7-8 years.
I’ve played in the same fantasy baseball league with a group of guys from a former employer since 1997. I think only 2 of the 11 guys still work for that employer.
Mike in Louisville. I don’t watch football either. Haven’t watched a game in 20 years. I did happen to watch for some reason the Ohio St/USC highlights on ESPN.
Bailey in his last 4 starts
3-0 1.67 ERA 25 SO in 27 IP, hitters hitting .228 against him
My “plan” was just to see U2, but while Homer and I are both in Chicago I figureg Wrigley was the place to be. Too much beer to tell you what’s going on though.
Denver 12, Cincinnati 7 Final
TOS2
Man, that Bengals game was deeply disappointing. (I hate fantasy football, though; played it once, hated it, and watched a good friend cuss his way through Sunday afternoons while he watched highlights. Doesn’t seem fun to me.)
Those numbers for Bailey are really exciting, though.
Not a Bengals fan, but, that was a brutal way to lose a game.
Agree that was just brutal.
And so much for the high powered Palmer/ocho/Coles offense.
Quiet here today. Wonder why?
Watching Joey Votto as this season winds down reminds me of a piece Roger Angell wrote about a Tiger fan in the twilight of Al Kaline’s career, who every day would calculate Al’s lifetime batting average, fervently hoping it wouldn’t dip below .300. Al finished with 3007 hits in 10,116 at bats for a .297 career average. He worked hard in 1974, his last year, hitting .262 in 558 at bats. Al also finished with 498 double and 399 homers in 22 seasons with Detroit. I could handle that from Joey.
So are the Reds going to have to cut Darnell McDonald so that Dusty doesn’t play him everyday?
That end to the Bengals game was a brutal way to lose…
I play fantasy football and baseball…Love both, this year have 4 teams each, which makes it more difficult. Baseball I am going to win 2 leagues, middle of the pack in two leagues…we’ll see how football goes.
@Dave H.:
I like the sentiment Dave H. When you have a young player who came up through the organization and has performed great it’s wonderful to think about him playing the next 10 years with the Reds.
I had to go all the way back to 1972 to find 10 Reds 1B who have had seasons with 10 or more Runs Created Above Positional average. Votto is on there for the last two seasons and this season isn’t over

I was at the game today. The play was, in a word, uninspired.
@mike: I’ve never been objective on the the football vs Baseball question .. On a scale of 1 to 10 , Baseball is a 10 and Football is a 1. I just can’t understand why everybody else doesn’t agree with me .. Since the NFL season opened today , I could not just keep my my big month closed .. and just vented .. No I do not waste my time watching Football when there is a much better Baseball game , any Baseball game on somewhere else .. Thank God for WGN today !
Not too exciting a day for the Reds. Bailey’s stuff looked good in the video hilites, but he’s got to learn to pitch with an 0-2 count – he was making that into a hitter’s count.
With the Bats out of the playoffs, will Bruce be on the Reds roster on Monday ?
As for football, I live in the NY area and today I’m glad I’m a Giants fan.
