It’s Matt Maloney vs. Jason Marquis tonight in Colorado. The Reds are looking to get back to their winning ways after having a streak snapped in a heartbreaking loss yesterday.
I’ll go on the record: I guarantee a Reds victory tonight.

Separated at birth?
@Kurt Frost: Freaky, no?
Everyone must be watching Stripes on AMC. Whatever happened to mud wrestling, anyway?
I think it turned into jello wrestling.
Not that I have any reason to know that personally of course…
The New York Mets game on SNY has what they call a silent 6th where there are no commentators. They showed it on MLB Network it was weird, I can only imagine FSN having that and showing the cowboy chow down on some fried chicken.
Get out of my head!
George Grande would explode. Did you see that he’s second in “most words said per minute” among all MLB announcers?
I am going to jinx the guy, but Maloney appears to be pitching well.
Personally I think the Reds should talk about guys in the minors more. Not anything huge but for an inning every game, such as recap-ish…where they mention a couple guys names that way when they come up people aren’t like who? It’s more of a yeah i think i heard that guy had a couple good games.
I’ll bet there isn’t an announcer that is more baselessly optministic than George.
The Indians channel STO has a weekly minor league report show that does a pretty good job introducing the guys in the system. Something like that would be nice.
You can see how knowing guys helps, just look at Stubbs. People heard of him because he was talked about and now they want to see him.
You could bring up Heisey/Frazier and only us “hardcore” fans would know them. It’s much easier to have optimism for a young guy if you’ve heard of him. I just believe it would benefit the telecast, the fanbase and the Reds long-term.
I’m not watching so closely, but why did they pull Maloney and put in another left-hander?
Hey, I saw a replay of ESPN’s debut over the weekend with none other than “smiling side of the scoreboard” George Grande introducing the station.
His hair was darker, his tan was even more pronounced, and he had that wonderful smile, and cherub talk happening even then.
They just said he had a blister?
Maloney hurt? He got pulled after 65 pitches.
And Viola promptly gives up a HR to the 1st batter.
Benjamin Dover…Ben Dover
Haha nice Welsh
Welsh just said he tried out for the Reds under the name Benjamin Dover, because he’d already signed a contract w/ the Yankees.
GG not getting the joke AT ALL, God bless him.
GG asked if it was named after Dover, Delaware.
Long period of silence, followed by “Aaahhhhhhhh….”
There was silence for a min…I think Welsh was explaining the whole Bend Over thing to Grande.
So I am guessing they are going to allow Jay Bruce to play in the AAA playoffs?
Somebody say my name?
C’mon, Janish.
1. Bunt a strike.
2. Don’t jab at it.
I have to admit that I’m watching the Nadal/Monfils US Open match. It’s riveting.
Flipping back and forth with the Reds game, but there’s only drama on one channel.
Janish is a good bunter, yes. But more importantly, he’s a good man.
I think Bruce is just going to play in the first round series, then they’ll recall him.
@Chad Dotson: Thanks for the tip. Now switching over. The Reds are on their own to tie this up.
Monfils’ getup is ridiculous.
Yeah, Monfils looks ridiculous, but he’s fun to watch. Maybe more fun than watching Nadal.
I went to the US Open a couple of years ago. Still the most fun I’ve ever had at a sporting event.
First, I like the changes on the site, seems to be a bit more friendly when it comes to conversations within the thread.
Second, the only Reds highlights on Baseball Tonight are likely to be Eric Young Jr. going to “souvenir city.” Ugh.
Ugh indeed, CeeKeR. I’ve given up on Baseball Tonight.
@Chad Dotson: I read an article this weekend that said AA was the worst stadium in sports.
Nadal reminds me of why I used to like tennis 100 years ago.
Check out the MLB Network, it’s great and it doesn’t hurt that on some nights you get to see Larkin or Casey
Does anyone still watch that show when MLB Network is available?
Those of us who are stuck with Comcast…and already pay WAY too much for a package with ESPN simply refuse to pay even more for another channel or two to watch… And yes, I’m bitter about that.
@Chris: I don’t know about it being the worst stadium in sports, but it isn’t great. We were about halfway up and I could see that the people up top must have felt like they were in a blimp.
The whole event is just spectacular, though. We went on day one, lots of matches all over the place. Fun.
@CeeKeR: I understand that, and I feel your pain…but MLB Network is superb.
Good AB there by BP, but bad result.
@Chad Dotson: I heard some guy saying similar great things about Wimbledon.
Two run deficit now. Darnit.
Ah, Jonny. That was one to hit.
@Chris: I take it back. That was nasty.
Isn’t there someone on the bench who could hit for Tatum?
Too bad Maloney had to go out, that was shapping up to be a solid start.
Does anyone think there is a chance that Baker will get fired at the end of the year? What if the Reds go into a nosedive the rest of the way (hard to wish that)?
@Steve: I really don’t think there’s any chance, Steve.
Well, I guess there’s one way. Only if Tony LaRussa wanted to come here, and if LaRussa, Jocketty, and Castellini are all tight (I don’t know if they are or not). Then, I guess there would be a possibility.
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
Money they have in Baker, and the injury excuse they have been building, unfortunately I think there is no chance. And as much as I am down on Dusty myself, there is an argument he deserves one more shot with a better/healthier roster.
