Triple – A

Louisville 3 – Toledo 2

6.2 innings pitched.  3 hits.  2 walks.  7 strikeouts.  0 RUNS!  That was the line for Redleg Nation Spotlight Player Matt Klinker in this win over the Mudhens.  Matt is now 2-2 with the Bats in 5 starts.  He posts a 2.48 ERA.  He had to watch nervously as the bullpen was shaky, but they held on for the win.  Logan Ondrusek recorded his 8th save of the season by pitching 2 scoreless innings.

Todd Frazier has played in only 4 games at AAA, but he has managed to now hit 2 homeruns.  Todd was 1-4 with a homerun and 2 rbis in this game.  Chris Heisey was 2-3 with a triple and a walk.

Double – A

Carolina 7 – Tennessee 6

Kris Negron went 3-4 with 2 homeruns, 4 rbis, and 3 runs scored to help lead the Mudcats to a win.  Jose Castro went 3-4 with 3 singles while Jake Long went 2-3 with a double, rbi, and 2 runs scored.

Camilo Vazquez allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks over 5.2 innings pitched to pick up the win.  Vazquez improved to 5-4 on the season with the victory.

Curtis Partch pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4.  Pedro Villarreal picked up the loss by allowing a run on 4 hits in 2.2 innings of relief.

Rookie Leagues

The GCL Reds did not play.

Helena 11 – Billings 8

  • Great game by Klinker!

Where’s Dan Dorn? Is he hurt?

  • Carson Cistulli, whose writing conjures up unpleasant masturbatory metaphors, has some kind words to say about Chris Heisey at FanGraphs:

Heisey has steadily received more recognition as he’s continued to perform through the various levels. It was, in fact, a feature about him in Baseball America that first called my attention to him. Regardless of his recent press, however, the fact remains that Heisey was a 17th-round pick from a college most notable for its tradition of throwing newly engaged students into the nearby Yellow Breeches Creek. Heisey has a skill set faintly reminiscent of Curtis Granderson at the same age: a decent mix of speed, power, plate discipline, and Can-Do Spirit, but without any real hype to surround them. He posted a park- and luck-adjusted line of .315/.398/.538 in 314 PA at Double-A Carolina this season with as many walks as strikeouts. Despite only drawing 12 BB in PA at Triple-A Louisville, he’s hitting well there, too.

Greg – help me out… I’m looking at Dorn’s numbers and they aren’t impressive this season. I know he is a board favorite, but I can’t see anything in his line that makes me play him in front of Stubbs, Heisey or even MacD (with how he was playing in AAA).

  • Since Stubbs was called up, Dorn has started 3 of the 8 games. They’ve been playing infielders in the corner outfield spots.

    Bolivar? .246avg/.652ops

    Griffin? .208avg/.541ops

Last night it was Bolivar and recently acquired from Japan, Lew Ford.

Last year, Dorn hit .277avg/.906 ops in AA

This year he is at .278/.800 in AAA with better numbers in the 2nd half.

    1st half .250/.747
    2nd half .360/.950

Looking at it by month, looks like the turnaround started in June after a bad first two months:

    April .207/.543
    May .213/.682
    June .338/1.024
    July .291.799
    August .377/.978

Went to the Bats game in Toledo last night. Matt Klinker pitched a great game. He had control trouble early, but really pitched a great game. Bats win 3-2. Matt is 2-2 with a 2.48 ERA. Sat right next to the bullpen, Ted Power threw a ball to my 4 year old son. My family and I had a great time and enjoyed watching Matt Klinker pitch.
