Please, Homer Bailey. Please pitch a shutout today.
I just don’t think I can suffer through a season where the Reds get swept by the Kansas City Royals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds must win today.
Please, Homer?

I am done watching the Reds this summer. So should you guys. The more viewership, the more money these buffoons that put this team together make.
I honestly hope the Reds struggle financially. Hopefully that will mean a sale of the team to someone that gives a crap, the hiring of a GM that relies on statistics and not “chance,” and a Manager that knows how to handle a young baseball team and not just a team full of veterans and a $150 million payroll.
You guys are wasting your time. With that said…I am off to Trader’s World!
Maloney is scheduled to go today for Louisville, so watch whether he makes his start this afternoon or not.
Lecure is also on the 40-man and pitched Friday night.
Ramon Ramirez has been pitching out of the bullpen.
Those are the guys on the 40-man roster in AAA.
Travis Wood pitched last night, so it wouldn’t be him unless they pitch him or another Reds starter on short rest. He has to be added to the 40-man in the offseason.
Klinker pitched Thursday night, but isn’t on the 40-man roster currently.
Greg, that lineup (sadly) is no longer surprising.
Heaven forbid Dusty would bat Rolen or Phillips in the #2 spot of the lineup. Heaven forbid Dusty would bat Jonny Gomes ahead of Laynce Nix, even though his statistics (from every standpoint) blow his away.
If Dusty did anything sensible, THAT would be surprising.
confused why Harang is missing the rest of the season. If you have an appendectomy I could see you being back in 2 weeks. Most people are back in 3-4 days. If you appendix explodes (like mine did) then I can see being out for 6-8 weeks.
Rolen is in the lineup, who was sent out? Or for now are they just doing a Rolen/Harang swap?
Stubbs not in the lineup
I’ve enjoyed watching Janish’s defense lately but why is he batting second? OK, don’t answer that, I know, it’s because he is playing SS, ugh
I hate it for Harang, but at least its one month of exhibitions where his arm won’t be ruined. Hopefully, he can pitch like has the last month next year. No chance we’ll see Wood is there? May be too early to bring him up, but I’d be excited to see how that would go.
ESPN.com transactions say that it was Rolen for Harang, so a player to be sent down for Harang won’t need to be sent down until Harang’s scheduled start (Wednesday)
I’d never wish the appendix thing on anyone, but at least Harang won’t end up a hard-luck loser for the rest of the year. At the rate he was going he’d lose 20 and his ERA would be under 4.00 with 200 IP. Good grief that’s a horrible fate for a pitcher.
By the way, the only worse #2 hitter in today’s lineup would be Homer Bailey himself. Any of the other 6 guys — ALL of them — would be better in the #2 hole than Janish.
This is SUCH an easy concept, and yet I am no longer surprised to see Dusty screw it up daily. Every single day.
Janish does play SS. So he must bat 2nd. He’s going to make a lot of outs next year in the two hole, unless we can acquire another veterean SS for millions of dollars who can OPS under .600.
It was nice to see Homer wiggle out of that jam in the 1st without giving up a run. He usually implodes when he gets in trouble. Hope he continues to develop so he can help out next season.
Can’t see how you would characterize Brantley’s comment as “babble” since it was seconds before Dickerson, going back into 1B standing, hurt his ankle. That seemed pretty impressive commentary to me. You think any of the Reds’ other broadcasters would have said that ahead of time?
If I’m Dusty, I pull Homer now. He hasn’t been very sharp today with the walks and amount of hits given up, but can take this as a positive outing. He is in line for the win and at 93 pitches.
I’d have been more impressed if Brantley had theorized that maybe the guy who came off the DL a week and half ago with a bruised right rotator cuff might be better off not diving back into the bag repeatedly. It also might have interesting if he’d have pointed out that Dickerson or anyone else for that matter gets picked off more often than others because they go back into first feet first. But he, or we, still don’t know if that is in fact the case.
I have HAD IT with the “injury-plagued” meme. It’s ridiculous. Regardless of injuries, Baker still would’ve batted Taveras-Gonzalez at the top of the order every day.
I hope he doesn’t come back out for the 8th, but last game his fastball had obviously flattened out, and he was laboring. Today, the fastball’s still got some life to it. Let’s not push it, Dusty.
Now Hanigan gets one off the mask and Tatum has to replace him. Man, we’re going to have to start getting players off the waiver wire to field a team soon.
Great minds do think alike – I thought right after Dickerson got hurt that we might be better off signing someone off waivers to hold down a spot until the rosters expand.
Great start by Homer. He was probably relieved to not be facing Lincecum or Carpenter as in his last three starts. The Reds needed it today. BP is obviously playing hurt. Janish with two hits and on base three times. Votto’s hitting stroke seems to be coming back. The end of the bullpen remains solid.
Not that I care deeply about such things, but I guess at this point I’d just as soon let what’s left of the Bats make their playoff run before we gut ‘em. There are certainly no guarantees that the guys we call up would actually play – I’ve seen more than enough of Nix to see what he brings to the table. Balentein should be playing every day. But it’s barely worth even discussing lineup stuff anymore.
regarding Janish batting 2nd, maybe they are trying to give Janish best chance to show whether he can hit enough at all and since being in front of Votto, he should be getting pitches to hit and lots of ABs. So in that sense, I am ok with it, even if the Reds organization probably did not think of it.

Harang is done for the season – emergency appendectomy last night.
Wow.
100 losses is looking more and more realistic.
…and the San Diego Padres.
Go Homer!
Lineup via Fay:
Chris Dickerson CF
Paul Janish SS
Joey Votto 1B
Brandon Phillips 2B
Scott Rolen 3B
Laynce Nix LF
Jonny Gomes RF
Ryan Hanigan C
Homer Bailey P

That is just great…:-((
Damn greg you beat me to it

Possible substitutes for Harang:
Maloney is scheduled to go today for Louisville, so watch whether he makes his start this afternoon or not.

Ah, it will be Maloney. Probably should be too.
We’re watching the Sandlot on ABC Family. They’re trying to get the baseball with Babe Ruth’s autograph from the dog yard now.
Balentien should be seeing a lot more action than he is.
Travis Wood pitched one of his best AAA games last night.
The article says that they told Harang no strenuous activity for 3 weeks.
ESPN.com transactions say that it was Rolen for Harang, so a player to be sent down for Harang won’t need to be sent down until Harang’s scheduled start (Wednesday)

Also, now the Harang trade talk will subside until the offseason.
“It’s been hell, ain’t it?” Baker said. “Whoever said injuries aren’t an excuse is lying. We get (Scott) Rolen back, and we lose Harang.”
Way to take responsibility.
As will any possible iota of moving Arroyo or Cordero.
With Harang done, giving up one of those guys would be seen as the organization running up the white flag, even to the casual fan.
We all know, though, there’s not even a ship still afloat under that mast with the white flag.
Rob, the team doesn’t need an owner who gives a crap. Castellini gives TOO MUCH of a crap.
What we need is an owner who doesn’t have a big-ass ego and can let his baseball people run the show.
Castellini wants to win badly — too badly — and he is absolutely killing this team.
He needs to hire good people, shut up, sign checks, and go sell some fruit.
This is our $3.5 million manager at work.
Janish does play SS. So he must bat 2nd. He’s going to make a lot of outs next year in the two hole, unless we can acquire another veterean SS for millions of dollars who can OPS under .600.
Tom said it. In Dusty world, SS and CF must bat in the first two spots. That is all there is to it.
Also, best wishes for Harang. Yes it is “minor” surgery but it still can cause problems.
Gomes is brutal in the field. The lead off “hit” by McCutcheon almost hit Gomes in the foot.
It was nice to see Homer wiggle out of that jam in the 1st without giving up a run. He usually implodes when he gets in trouble. Hope he continues to develop so he can help out next season.
Homer just walked the pitcher. Not very impressive so far.
Another walk and Dusty visits the mound. Homer should ask him if he can bat 2nd next time while he’s out there.
53 pitches for Homer through 2 innings. The long man had best start loosening up now.
How do we put an end to all of the REDS bad Juju?
Is Dusty the Juju king or what?
We need some kind of good luck amulet or charm to stamp out the Juju!
:worried:
Another one bites the dust. Dickerson is hurt now, hurt his ankle going back into first base while getting picked off. See you next year Chris.
Oh Lord, when’s it going to end?
Did it look bad? It sounded bad on the radio.
I don’t have the game on TV today. I had to listen to Brantley babble on about Dickerson always going back into 1B standing. My ears hurt now.
Can’t see how you would characterize Brantley’s comment as “babble” since it was seconds before Dickerson, going back into 1B standing, hurt his ankle. That seemed pretty impressive commentary to me. You think any of the Reds’ other broadcasters would have said that ahead of time?
Nice hit for Stubbs.
I wish Aaron the best.
What did the Reds do to anger the baseball gods so?
Reds1,
They hired Dusty Baker.
Walks haunt.
If I’m Dusty, I pull Homer now. He hasn’t been very sharp today with the walks and amount of hits given up, but can take this as a positive outing. He is in line for the win and at 93 pitches.

Tom hates everybody.
Perfect opportunity to take Homer out and score more runs. Evidently Dusty is not interested.
Dear Redlegnation,
How’s Bailey going to learn any lessons if I pull him before the 6th inning with less than 100 pitches?
Sincerely yours,
–Dusty Baker
Especially crappy broadcasters, GMs, and managers. Be right back, I got to go kick my dog now.
And Bailey has an effective, 12 pitch 6th. It all worked out.
LOL
Any special reason they saluting 9/11 victims today?
Why not take Homer out now? Day off tomorrow for the bullpen. 105 pitches for Homer. No brainer. Oh yeah…
Dear Redlegnation,
How’s Bailey going to learn any lessons if I pull him before the
6th7th inning with less than100120 pitches?Sincerely yours,
–Dusty Baker
So how many pitches do you let Bailey throw today? He was at 105 to start the inning and is at 108 after striking out Bixler.
Dusty is teaching lessons again, I see.
There’s a time and place to stretch a guy out. Maybe this is actually it. He looks free and easy, and is has no loss of MPH.
Gomes is Brunansky-esque.
Awesome, 9 pitch inning, last pitch was 98 MPH. He’s getting sharper as he goes. At 114 pitches. Back for the 8th?
Why is it that the guy who makes the diving catch always leads off the next inning?
I have HAD IT with the “injury-plagued” meme. It’s ridiculous. Regardless of injuries, Baker still would’ve batted Taveras-Gonzalez at the top of the order every day.
I hope he doesn’t come back out for the 8th, but last game his fastball had obviously flattened out, and he was laboring. Today, the fastball’s still got some life to it. Let’s not push it, Dusty.
PS – Pinch hitter! Yay!
Just tuned in. Veteran leadership pays off today.
This is REALLY starting to get depressing. We’re about two games from not being able to field a team.
Time to sacrifice a bucket of chicken to Jobu?
Now Hanigan gets one off the mask and Tatum has to replace him. Man, we’re going to have to start getting players off the waiver wire to field a team soon.
Great minds do think alike – I thought right after Dickerson got hurt that we might be better off signing someone off waivers to hold down a spot until the rosters expand.
A few bright spots today.
Bruce may not want to come back with this injury curse.
You got McDonald and Miller at Louisville. That’s as good as waiver wire material.
Gameday has Homer’s fastball at 97-98 throughout the 7th inning.
And his ERA is down under 7.00
Good to see him staying strong for seven, definitely.
Where’s Daryl Thomson these days?
regarding Janish batting 2nd, maybe they are trying to give Janish best chance to show whether he can hit enough at all and since being in front of Votto, he should be getting pitches to hit and lots of ABs. So in that sense, I am ok with it, even if the Reds organization probably did not think of it.
That’s a good point, doktor. PJ was 2-4 today with a BB.
Janish can’t hit. He can field; but he can’t hit.
