Game Thread: Reds at Pittsburgh — 2009.08.22

Reds and Pirates get it on again tonight, with Justin Lehr taking the mound for the good guys. It’s a battle for last place.

Discuss the game here.

I feel a win coming on tonight.

    Rosales batting second. Ick.

Well of course Rosales is batting second. Dusty doesn’t like clogging the bases when Votto and Phillips comes up. So if the lead-off guy gets on, he needs someone to ground into that double play!

Please tell me why this idiot is still managing this team? He is without a doubt, the most overrated manager in the Major Leagues. If the Reds had a $150 million payroll, he’d look like a king, but then again, who couldn’t?

  • I will give you 3.5 million reasons he is still the manager.

    Last place.

At least AGon hit one out against the Yankees.

Heck. I just got home, and the game’s already over.

  • Been playing Wii with my son. Just turned the game on, and I really don’t think the Reds can come back from this deficit. Discouraging.

Lightning – I liked it better when AGon grounded into a bases loaded double-play last night.

So I guess the only remaining bettable question left tonight is – when does Lehr come out of the game. My guess: he goes 7 2/3.

Here’s to a higher draft pick!

Reds doing their best to get Dusty fired.

Yes, I’d love to see Bob go back on his word about Dusty.

On a plus note, it looks like Wood was pretty much lights out again. Gave up 2R over 7, but on only 1 hit and 1 BB (walk scored on a HR). Maybe he could compete for a spot next year.

  • I go outside for a half hour and the Reds are down 10 when I come back in.

  • Switch over to the LL World Series. My friend’s nephew is on the SoCal team that is ABUSING the poor kids from KY right now. I can’t even count the HRs anymore. Has to be up near 8.

Last place. Looks like it is all coming together. Dusty has the team firing on all cylinders.

It is a good thing Bob stated that the losing was about to end.

OK, we have reached rock bottom. I don’t even mean last place. I mean that we just got utterly humiliated by a team that had traded virtually every useful piece they had. I’m reminded of the good ol’ buttwhippin’ the Bengals took that finally forced Mike Brown to show Bruce Coslet the door. Of course, that was one of 16, not one of 162. But this still feels like one of those moments to me. If something doesn’t change immediately, by what right would Castellini to expect expect ANYONE to show up at GABP when the team comes back home?

If the Reds do get a number one pick will they even be able to sign him?

Gotta love it when your top 2 hitters in the lineup are 0-8 for the game. But hey, that’s been the norm for the Reds all year.

Only bright spot, Johnny Gomes 3-for-4 again with an RBI. Another reason why he should be retained next year – AVG back up to .280

It all started innocently enough. I was in little league and it was the 70’s. Everyone was doing it, and as they won, I won. It seemed magical. Then came the 80’s. I discovered that I wasn’t going to make the major leagues, and it seemed like the Reds wouldn’t either. But there I was, breathing deeply every spring, just knowing that this year would be different. Oh, and then came 1990. Wire to Wire, baby. I just knew that great times were ahead. Life was a party. The Bengals were in the Super Bowl the year before. I thought I had it all under control. Then it began controlling me. I felt good every spring, and hit rock bottom by the end of July year after year. Broken promise after broken promise.

My little league years were in the 60s. I used to sneak the little transistor radio and earphone into bed to listen to the west coast games. I vaguely remember Hoyt, but Al Michaels was my guy – it took me five years to get over my distaste for Brennaman.

My name is RC, and… I’m still a Reds fan.
