Is Juan Francisco’s defense too much of a liability for him to make an NL roster? He seems to have a pretty good bat.
He’s hitting the ball well since coming back from injury, but he strikes out WAAYYYY too much and, IMO, would be overmatched by big league pitchers. Plus, as you noted, his defense leaves much to be desired.
I don’t know what it is about him, but I’m really excited about Billy Hamilton and his future with the Reds.
I agree, RCR. I don’t usually get too excited about kids so young, but this guy’s athleticism makes me really hope he makes it.
I’m never big on drafting too many high schoolers, but when these high-ceiling types pay off, they REALLY pay off.
Exactly!
Francisco’s E/BB ratio is now 25/14. Why they continue to play him at 3B I have no idea. They still have Frazier out in LF, who I think would be ideal for 3B, so this tells me maybe they plan on sticking with Encarnacion at 3B. I’m hoping Francisco is the prospect included in any upcoming trades, but I’m sure his lack of fielding and profiecency at hacking will make that not possible.
I was impressed in the one game I saw Hamilton last week…but man, someone buy the kid a meal.
