I Ain’t No Front-Runner

Here’s the tie I decided to wear to work this morning:

I ain’t no front-runner.

  • Good for you! There were some frontrunners in Cincy this past weekend: http://blue-collarbaseball.blogspot.com/2009/07/pet-peeves-frontrunners.html

God love ya. That’s a pretty nice tie. Did you notice Friday, Thom Breneman was wearing the tie they gave away on Fathers day this year? Those broadcasters like the free sh*t, don’t they?

Good for you man. I just wish I felt better about this club right now. Granted, its easy to hate after the way the last two games have gone. I have to say though, I think playoff hopes are gone. I realize we are not far off, but that is only because the division is weak. I think the fade starts now, unfortunately. :(

Chad, you are a brave man. I’m going to go throw on my jersey since I’m not working. We need some good vibes in redland.

OF Adam Dunn hit his 300th career homer during Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Braves, a solo shot into the second deck in right field at Nationals Park. The 29-year-old reached the 300-homer plateau in his 4,145th career at-bat, fifth-fastest in major-league history. Only OF Babe Ruth (3,830), 1B Mark McGwire (3,837), OF Ralph Kiner (3,883) and INF Harmon Killebrew (3,928) did it in fewer at-bats.

Good for you Chad. Not much you can do after a game like that except put it behind you and get ready for the next one.

If you guys haven’t yet, read the article from Dayton Daily News on Joey Votto. Pretty good stuff.

Looks like Chad has voted in Lance’s poll:

What should be done following a 22-1 loss to the Phillies, the worst loss in franchise history?

    Blame it on David Weathers
    0.97 %

    :p

I felt like I was watching a car accident happen last night. You know, you want to turn away so you don’t have to see how bad it is, but you can’t help but watching. Ticked off I changed the channel in the 1st inning, only to turn back to watch the 2nd inning (and consequently most of the game). I like the tie Chad, I guarantee you’ll get some smart comments today!

Did anybody else think Taveras was dogging it on the fly ball Werth (I’m pretty sure it was Werth) hit with 2 outs in the first? It looked to me like he was just taking his time getting to it.

Total change of subject, but does anyone know anything about the 4 kids (and that seems to be the right word) we signed from Venezuela? Any of them considered real prospects?

It certainly calls my judgment into question, I’ll give you that.

I’ve heard a lot of comments about the tie this morning; everyone’s a comedian. :D

People in the office know I’m a Reds fan, and I’m getting a lot of flack today, too. Even from the guy sitting next to me who doesn’t follow baseball. He’s pretty sure that they pitch overhand in the majors, but don’t quote him on it.

They don’t allow sports attire in our business casual environment, so the best I can do is a red shirt. Some comedian just asked me if it was Cincinnati red or Philadelphia red.

Hey per14 that was a great story about Votto and the Trebnicks. Thanks for the heads up. It is truly inspiring to see that there are such good people and such deep friendships in the world. Both Joey and that terrific family. I think the Reds are blessed to have Joey on this team as a player and as a man.

In terms of the last two games, they have been really ugly but they don’t necessarily predict the future. The Reds could just as easily win big tonight. I don’t think the Reds are going too far this year but I think things are shaping up for next year well. Before the season started I don’t think anyone thought they would be a top team and that is the way it is shaping up. I think some people got a little over excited and even a little greedy when the Reds seemed to have some success and when the division seemed so mediocre.

    Tonight’s lineup:
    REDS

    Taveras 8
    Hairston 6
    Votto 3
    Phillips 4
    Gomes 7
    Hernandez 2
    Bruce 9
    Encarnacion 5
    Harang 1

Isn’t this the exact same lineup (except P) that lost 22-1 last night?

Why I believe it is the same lineup RiverCity Redleg. If it ain’t broke you don’t fix it. Reds broke 140 year old records last night. Dusty wants more.

Seriously, I like it from the mental aspect because it says, here is your chance to make amends. I $10 of my cold hard cash on the line out here in Vegas.

    Nice tie.

Sutton sent out for Manuel. 13 pitchers again (14 counting Janish.) Woohoo!
