Fact is, this team is fairing better than any in recent memory despite numerous injuries.

I don’t want to pick on D. Bronson, b/c I agree wholeheartedly with his other points. But I’ve been hearing this line – “this is the closest they’ve been in a long time” – a lot lately. And it’s just not even remotely true.

On July 5, they’re 1 game over .500 and 2 games out.

The 2006 team was still in first place on August 24, for goodness sake. (That, you may recall, was when the Royce Clayton-led Reds tanked a west coast road trip.) Now, that team actually stunk, and was only in contention by fluke. Which I guess is my point about this year’s club . . .

Direct Tv had some sort of hick-up. I couldn’t get any games on the satellite. Magically, order was restored right after the Reds’ game had finished. Bastardos!

Some of you people are nuts. EE is about the best you can expect out of a non elite 3b. Just because he is not David Wright or Aramis Ramirez doesn’t mean he is not productive. What you really want isn’t a ‘decent hitting 3b’, you want an All-Star 3b, because EE is already more than decent. It would be like bitching about Joey Votto or Brandon Phillips because they don’t hit like Albert Pujols or Chase Utley.

Yes, that’s how he’s “resolved” it. If he batted Taveras 8th instead of 2nd, I could perhaps tolerate it. But what’s he has done is stupid. It’s put Nix/Gomes on the bench, and that was very productive platoon.

Note how Dusty has resolved the Taveras/Dickerson quandry.
He’s put things back to how he had them in the first place: Dickerson in LF, Taveras in CF, and Nix on the bench.

Order has been restored and Dusty has been vindicated.
The Reds aren’t playing their best lineup, but that’s another matter.

As long as we’re talking about a player’s hitting with RISP for a particular year, we’re talking about a small sample.
But considering the Reds as a whole, what’s more important than BA with runners in scoring position is the percentage of times they succeed in scoring when they have a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs.

I wonder where the Reds stand by this measure in comparison with other teams this year.

And trying to pick someone off of third when you have no chance of getting him and letting him score is so little league too amirite?? And i don’t think we should trade arroyo unless we get 1 nearly major league ready pitcher or hitter, its unbelievable how hard it is to find a major league average pitcher like arroyo. and definitely can’t trade him untill we find out if/when volquoz comes back. now lets beat up on carpenter tomorrow!

RISP – Thom’s big rant today was a runner on 3rd and less than two out. I watched the first 6 innings, and he specifically got on Bruce and Edwin in this category. I’m glad the 2nd time he started ranting, Chris stepped in and corrected him. In most cases, players overall numbers is what they do in the various “split” circumstances, and because of the sample size, the actual results vary from year-to-year. Thank you Chris. Thom seemed to shut up about it. At least for a short while.

First, like his dad, Thom seems to have unfavorites and he likes to rip them at every chance.

Second, Thom is wrong about the 2009 team and the two players he was ranting about. Stats thru yesterday:
2009 Reds
overall – batting .249, slugging .392
on third, less than 2 out – batting .292, slugging .432

2009 Bruce
overall – batting .216, slugging .460
on third, less than 2 out – batting .286, slugging .571

2009 Edwin
overall – batting .141, slugging .219
on third, less than 2 out – batting 0 for 1 with 2 walks
on third, WITH 2 out – batting .400, slugging 1.000

The play where Hernandez threw to second and Pujols scored from third was so little league. Stupid crap like that is why the Reds have had 9 losing seasons in a row. Good teams don’t do crap like that.

The EE haters crack me up, and the Dusty Baker haters do too. Reds fans seem to be getting dumber as Marty gets grumpier. The collective intelligence has fallen, and was never that high to begin with.

Fact is, this team is fairing better than any in recent memory despite numerous injuries. Another fact is, if Adam Dunn was still on the team, they’d be in 1st place.

Marty and his parrots got that one wrong too.

Arroyo has been good at times in the past. He’s not super old and there are a good number of teams in the race that are desperate for a starter.
Hopefully the Reds sell it as “just needs a change of scenery”, “plays in a hitters/HR park”, “inning eater”, etc etc, bla bla

The question I have is can the Reds get a SS? Or what hole do they look to fill?

Their weakest positions
CF but they have a CFer Dusty just won’t start him over Willy
C but they have a C Dusty just won’t start him over Hernandez
LF Gomes has been great and Nix good…together they have made a good platoon. Do you get a LF?
Or do they package EE with Arroyo and get a BIG hitting and defensive 3B? I don’t see ANY 3B available who would be worth getting. Players like Wright, Zimmerman, Longoria, etc are going nowhere and the Reds SHOULD NOT get an old rent-a-player like Rolen.

The Reds really are in a bad position. I’ll bet we could get Scutaro from Toronto or Tejada (see old-rent-a-player) from Houston or maybe one of the guys in LA (PLEASE NOT PIERRE!)

I think a better change would be to get Dusty to play the right guys.
