When we look back on the season, I still think we'll see that May 29 thru Jun 7 (10 games vs StL, Mil, and ChC) was a bad stretch that led to a bad June and ultimately cost them the division. 3-7 against division rivals/leaders. 5-5 and the Reds are in first place right now.

They've got a chance going into the all-star break to make up for that. 3 this weekend against St Louis. They have the difficult task of the Phillies for 4 and then the ailing Mets for 3 leading up to the break next week. Can they go 6-4? Then 4 immediately after the break vs Milwaukee.

July continues with the Dodgers for 3 on the left coast.

Then an important 13 game stretch -> 6 vs Cubs and 7 vs San Diego and Colorado. They need to pick up at least 8-5 on that 13 game stretch.

If they can remain close, or even take the lead, 9 of their last 12 games of the season are against Pittsburgh and Houston. The other 3 in those last 12 are against StL. Is it silly to look that far ahead??

GregD I agree with you IF not only were they given regular playing time but if that meant the lineups were built correctly. If Hanigan bats 2nd and Dickerson leads off most of the season and in particularly against right handers this offense could have definitely won 3-4 more of the games that it's lost by 1 run

The problem this team is going to have is who leads off vs lefties? I guess we could live with Hairston playing CF and leading off vs lefties

If Hanigan and Dickerson had gotten regular playing time, we may have been ahead of St Louis in the standings heading into this weekend.

Hanigan for ROY!

I was looking at VORP for rookies in the NL am surprised that two players that aren't Reds starters are in the top 10 in the NL

Hanigan is 4th and Dickerson is 5th in the NL among rookie position players
VORP also doesn't include defense and both play very good defense. Well Dickerson still looks a little lost when playing a corner OF spot but looks great in CF

If Hanigan and Dickerson got regular playing time they would easily be in the running for ROY

PS Yes knew you were talking about less than 2 out, that's what I was thinking of with Rosales.

I know Hanigan's had problems with scoring runners from 3rd, less than 2 out. In every other situation, he's been great.

Also...this is with LESS than two outs...but, the kinds of situations we saw today. Rosales has scored of 9 of 13. He's knocked in the second most (behind Phillips) and had the fourth most opportunities (behind Phillips, Hernandez, and Bruce).

of course...the top of the order hasn't been getting on, the OBP guys have been in the middle whihc has given our lesser hitters the RBI opportunities...

I'm surprised by these numbers.

Dickerson's only scored 2 of 7.

Hanigan's only scored 2 of 11.

Nix 4 of 9.

Gomes 3 of 5

Steve, Rosales at 69% ? That shocks me, toward the end anyway he kept failing in those situations, except for that infield game winning hit against the Cubs that was largely due to a poor throw from the 3rd baseman.

I do remember his doing well in those situations when he first came up.

OH,somebody asked this the other day...Ramon Hernandez is having one of his worst three offensive seasons of his career.

His OPS crawled back over 700 the last couple of days, but is 701 for the year, his third worst ever (career OPS is 744)

Scoring runners from third base with less than two outs: his ratio is 57% (8 of 14) before today. His career number is 59%. He's only had one season less than 57%.

Before today, the Reds as a team are 50% on driving runners home from third base with less than two outs.

Phillps 69%, Rosales 69%, Taveras 73% (believe it or not), Hairston 58%.

Surprises? Bruce 41%, Votto 50%

Yeah, back in Dodger Blue we had Steve Yeager. We didn't need no stinkin' Bench.

What a cheap win for Cordero. He's been a disaster in tie-game situations.

Overall he's a big part of our good bullpen though.
