Arizona starting pitcher Doug Davis is going to look like Cy Young today, I’m afraid.
Not only has the Reds’ offense been struggling mightily, but Aaron Harang is pitching for the Reds. The offense never scores for Harang, whether he’s pitching well or pitching poorly.
It’s an afternoon game, though, and those are always fun. Ignore your work and discuss the game here….
(The lineup, with Willy Taveras leading off again, is below the fold.)
Taveras CF
Hairston 3B
Votto 1B
Phillips 2B
Gomes LF
Hanigan C
Dickerson RF
Janish SS
Harang P
Yes to Hanigan and Janish!
Interesting that Dickerson is playing over Bruce in RF.
Might we see even more Dickerson in CF vs. RH pitchers if he’s being used over Bruce vs. LH?
Baker on on Sutton via Hal’s blog:
And where does Sutton fit in?
“I have to see him first,” said Baker. “I talked to Jose Cruz (Astros coach) and some Astros guys and they liked what they had in him. I’m going to take a couple of days for Chris Speier (infield coach) to look at him at different infield positions and for Billy Hatcher (outfield coach) to look at him and work with him at the corner outfield spots. We’ll see.
“This is his first taste of the big leagues – another one for us,” Baker added. “And he gives us a switch-hitter with some speed.”
Surely they didn’t call up Sutton to give Baker a couple of days to scout him?
After today, the Reds face 3 straight righties vs. St Louis. The first two scheduled pitchers in Philly are LH.
Harang’s 6 outings since the Houston rain delay incident:
4.1 ip, 8r (5/30 vs Mil)
8 ip, 3r
7 ip, 0r
2 ip, 0r (taken out after rain delay
7 ip, 3r
4.2 ip, 7r (6/26 vs Cle)
Don’t they know what positions Sutton can play already?
I guess they want to see what positions he’s most comfortable in.
Why doesn’t he talk to Rick Sweet and the Reds AAA coaches?
“I guess they want to see what positions he’s most comfortable in.”
Like they did with Richar, right?
well you know, in regards to “scouting” Sutton, this is dusty, he can “see” talent and “smell” a base hit. such powers are beyond us mere mortals who have not toiled in the MLB.
Richar’s days are numbered.
Speed?
He has one stolen base this year in 3 attempts, two triples, 12 doubles.
He has Jeff Keppinger speed.
He pretty much has Keppinger’s glove, too. Comfortable defensively? In the minors, he’s played 391 games at 2b, 124 games at 3b, 54 at ss, and 8 at 1b.
True to Reds’ defensive decisions as of late, he’s played 10 of his 54 shortstop games this season.
We’re the only team that moves people to shortstop after they reach the big leagues.
It’s all about the defense?
Tell that to Paul Janish…
As for Sweet he’s only managed 2848 minor league games.
I guess he needs more seasoning.
Sutton played a few games at SS while Valaika was on the DL. I don’t have him playing SS at AAA so long as he’s not taking at-bats away from prospects. He played 44 times at SS with Houston’s minor league teams. Doesn’t seem like a big deal.
I love Thursday afternoon games.
I’m thinking Sutton is Keppinger only less expensive.
Good start by Harang. Sounded like a good play by Phillips and a favorable call by the ump.
Nice start – 9 pitches, 7 strikes, 3 outs for Harang.
Lopez was retired to start the game on 3 straight called strikes.
I don’t see Sutton taking away any of Janish’s playing time, but I do think River City’s on the money. Richar’s not going to be with the big club much longer.
Sounded like a good play by Phillips and a favorable call by the ump.
It was both. (I’m watching the production feed at work, with audio by the 700 crew. Good times.)
I’m also thinking that Rosales has got to be more than a little disapointed that Sutton got the call instead of him.
WT tried to bunt and it hit him. Another quality AB by WT.
To both your comments Glenn – that’s why I think Sutton should have been here (over Richar) in the first place. Richar wasn’t even on the 40-man when they called him up.
Great, a one-pitch at bat for Taveras, he has another poor bunt and runs into the out. Glad he’s batting lead off.
So WT was out. I failed to mention that last time.
Nick – dripping with sarcasm.
Thanks Travis G. How can I get the production feed at work?
Greg D, I couldn’t ageee more.
Cy Davis outdueling Harang. 3 pitches, 3 strikes, 2 out.
It’d be nice for Votto to have “in play, no out” with runners on base
Double for Votto. Where can the Reds get 7 more of him?
GregD, exactly!
which is more frustrating – Baker’s lineup w/Taveras batting leadoff or Baker calling for the bunt every other play. If Taveras would have successfully gotten on 1st, Hairston would have just been up there bunting him over.
How can I get the production feed at work?
Just get a job at a TV station. Only problem is, it can be hard to hear over all the dang police scanners. Keep it down, guys! I’m trying to watch the game here!
Inning over. I don’t think Marty and Thom described one pitch in the Phillips AB.
Thom (@ Marty): “You’re on a roll today.”
I love Thom’s sarcasm when he’s giving it back to his dad.
But I am looking forward to hearing some more all star talk.
you’ve got the dreaded radio 2nd inning coming up, where they interview a beat writer and fail to watch the game.
Is Harang alright? 15 pitches this inning, 13 fastballs (if Gameday on mlb.com is accurate)
1st inning – 9 pitches, 8 fastballs
8 pitches to Montero, all fastballs
Got to imagine that either gameday is wrong, or Arizona will be sitting no his fastball. 2 pitches to Tracy, both FB, 2nd pitch is an RBI single
sitting on his fastball
Gomes can’t get to one that everyone else woulda got to.
At least according to Marty, Thom and Hal
23 pitches in an inning that is finally over.
Gameday recorded just 1 slider and 1 changeup. Everything else they called a fastball that mostly clocked 91-93.
That was not a well hit ball though. Gomes lack of speed in LF allowed it to fall. Harang’s fastball looks good and if he can through their order without throwing his secondary pitches, it’s a good thing.
Another one-pitch AB. If we could get someone on base ahead of Votto, say our lead off hitter, he scores on the double. Baker’s lineups are beyond idiotic.
It doesn’t appear to be a gameday issue. They are calling a variety of pitches for Davis.
Dickerson looked helpless in that at-bat.
Taveras – 94 consecutive plate appearances without a BB, including zero for the month of June.
June OBP: .167
Season OBP: .281
But Baker keeps rolling him out there in the lead off spot as though Taveras is the ONE guy on the team who can only bat in one place.
Just terrible.
How about Hanigan for lead off hitter?
A catcher batting leadoff? Hank Aaron would roll over in his grave!
I haven’t been able to post the link, but Gomes has good career numbers vs. the first pitch. I got it at baseball reference dot com.
.332 avg, 1.056 ops
2009 he’s batting .455 on the first pitch (5 for 11 with two doubles.)
Taveras is a career .376 hitter on the first pitch. This year, only batting .059 vs the first pitch.
Phillips is a career .352 hitter vs. the first pitch and it appears he’s ben pretty consistent each year in that category.
3rd inning – Harang 12 pitches, 11 fastballs, 8 strikes, 3 outs. I guess if you don’t need another pitch.
I notice that sometimes they list it as “4-seam fastball” and sometimes just “fastball”. Does he throw two types?
Why do I have the feeling this game is shaping up as one of those where the Reds make the opposing pitcher throw about 80 pitches for a complete game?
Thank you, Joey.
“If we could get someone on base ahead of Votto, say our lead off hitter, he scores on the double.”
Now you’re just talking crazy. Will you please leave the managing to the people who have actually played with Hank Aaron?
Nice to see Votto batting with someone on. Let’s keep it going Phillips!
Thankfully, Davis is already up to 53 pitches through 3 innings. Although with this offense lately, I’m sure the Arizona bullpen is full of Mariano Riveras
We’ve got 2 hits, both by Votto!
Taveras’ semi-automatic outs at the top of the order are killing us.
Two hits by Joey wasted.
Harang’s fastball is nasty today!
Yeah, if Harang keeps this up, he can go 8 innings.
Will the Reds score for him?
Is there a baseball game going on? All I hear is a father and son talking about their personal lives. As if any of us could really care about either one of them. Where’s Brantley?
Harang looks very good today, except when Parra is up. He pitches around him as if he’s Babe Ruth.
20 pitches so far this inning (not counting the pitchout) 18 fastballs.
Tracy’s up with two on and has already hit his fastball once today.
Dusty on Dusty:
Y’know, I used to play with Ralph Garr. One day Ralph said to me “Dusty,” he used to call me Dusty, “You know why I lead off all the time? It’s because I’m fast. And I’ve played center field before.” That’s why Willy reminds me of Ralph. Now Willy hasn’t hit .350 and hasn’t been named an all-star yet, but they share the most important ingredients: speed and position. Who wouldn’t like Ralph Garr leading off for them? Well, you have someone in a Reds uni who shares his traits. And we BOTH played with Hank Aaron.
shoo, he got two fastballs but flied out to taveras. disaster averted
I’m surprised Thom and Marty stopped talking about ice cream long enough to point out Gomes’ hit.
“You’re cynical.”
“Well you’re more cynical than I am.”
“No, you’re more cynical”
Was that a bunt single for Hanigan? He is making his case for batting leadoff.
I think we need to squeeze the run in.
Tied up. RBI for Dickerson.
I’m surprised Dickerson was able to make it safely to first with Gomes and Hanigan clogging up the bases in front of him.
Thank you, Mr. Dickerson.
C-Dick!
Gomes was on 2nd with no outs and Hanigan is up there bunting? (not blaming Hanigan, I’m sure that was the sign) At least that goes down in his statbook as a hit w/RISP
Bases loaded, no outs – who is more likely to drive in a run, Harang or Taveras?
Bases loaded…
for the power bats in the order…
Harang
Taveras
Hairston
Harang.
Harang with an opportunity to help himself here… We’ll see how bad he wants run support!
Doh! He was up there hacking. IF fly rule.
First pitch swinging by Taveras. Can’t get it out of the infield. One pitch for Harang and one pitch for Taveras after Davis walks Janish.
Thom: “The Reds have gone from bases loaded, nobody out to bases loaded, two out in two pitches.”
Willy Taveras can match that. First pitch hacking FC.
At least the bases are now loaded with HAVOC!
Another solid AB by WT. Marty just said, “he hasn’t walked since May 23rd.”
Baker should have pinch hit for Taveras.
Way to go Willy and Jerry.
Pathetic.
bases loaded nobody out
coaching visit, Davis catches breath before facing the “heart of the order”
Harang
Taveras
Hairston
4 pitches, 3 outs, inning over
and the top of the order delivers….outs.
Dickerson is turning into a great major league player right in front of our eyes the past two months. Taveras is turning into a joke of a player (both in the field and at bat). Obvious to everyone but Baker. Can’t any of his coaches talk some sense into him?
Hairston had the best at-bat…he saw two pitches
F___ing Taveras can’t even take a pitch. With a decent leadoff hitter, we could easily have 4-5 runs right now.
I do not normally post. I normally just read the thread for enjoyment but that sequence was enough to make me rip my eyes out of their sockets. Bases loaded, nobody out and we don’t produce a single go ahead run. I don’t care who is batting, at the Major League level when you have the bases loaded and nobody out you have to find a way to score a run.
I don’t understand the Edwin delay either. Did he aggravate his injury? He’s hitting pretty well on his rehab assignment.
I sure wish it had been Dickerson and Hanigan batting 1-2 in that situation.
Willy can’t hit anything and he swings at the first pitch. He should have been told to take at least two pitches.
Nice sliding catch by Jonny Gomes.
Who sits when Edwin comes back? Does Baker realize Hairston sucks?
bases loaded , nobody out …. and no runs. TOS !
The 5 hitters in our lineup due up. Need some runs here.
I don’t understand the Edwin delay either.
I wish Marty hadn’t cut off Hal McCoy when he brought up the conspiracy theories he’d heard about this.
I’ve heard the Reds are in on Matt Holliday, and EdE could be one of the chips, but I don’t know how the day off would play into that if it’s still just in the discussion phase. Assuming it’s true.
How many games has Taveras (and Baker insisting on playing Taveras, batting lead off) cost the Reds this year?
We’d be in first place if Baker had begun playing CD in CF every game on June 1.
What’s the score and inning? I can’t access it at work.
“I sure wish it had been Dickerson and Hanigan batting 1-2 in that situation.”
I understand what you are saying, but then they wouldn’t have scored the 1 run they did get from the bottom of the order…
“I’ve heard the Reds are in on Matt Holliday, and EdE could be one of the chips”
How much of an upgrade is Holliday over Gomes/Nix? Then we’re stuck with Hairston at 3rd?
bottom of 5, 1-1
Bottom of the fifth, 1-1, two outs, Dickerson up with men on first and third, preach.
Hanigan 2 for 2 with a bb
How much of an upgrade is Holliday over Gomes/Nix? Then we’re stuck with Hairston at 3rd?
I was thinking the same thing. Left field is not the real need at present. Especially if you include EE in the conversation. SS, CF, 3rd.
Another chance for Janish to prove he belongs in the lineup…
Why is Marty being so hard on Janish compared to Taveras?
Left the bases loaded again. End of 5, 1-1.
Slowest delivery ever….just steal home.
I dunno, just what I heard this morning from a fairly reliable source. The A’s would be looking for a 3B, and the Reds also have Frazier and Francisco.
Also, Janish did not impress there.
Absolutely unbelievable. This team needs a bat or it will have no chance. To waste such good pitching is a sin.
Don’t worry. The top of the order will be coming up soon.
It’s very hard to score when you only have 5 hitters in the lineup.
At least Janish made Davis throw some pitches, fouling off 2 with a full count.
Francisco certainly wouldn’t seem to be a Beane-type player.
Of course Holiday in LF, Nix/Dickerson in CF and Bruce/Gomes in RF would be an upgrade.
Really, it’s more of addition by subtraction. I guess the outfield is improved no matter how we get rid of Willy.
Home run, 2-1 Arizona.
Defintely not getting timely hits the last couple of days. Nine hits last night and 1 run. Plenty of chances today and 1 run.
Wow…didn’t think that would make it out.
Boy, Dickerson looked like Spiderman on that play. His glove was level with the third row.
Francisco certainly wouldn’t seem to be a Beane-type player.
That’s what I said, too.
Who hit it?
I sure hope that isn’t the margin.
Mark Reynolds hit the homer.
Sure hope Aaron doesn’tge tagged with a 2-1 loss!
What is the % chance of scoring a run with the first three up this inning?
We should pinch hit for Harang in the bottom of the inning.
…so Votto can come up with two outs and the pinch hitter on base.
REDS1 maybe you should change your name to RED3 or REDS4. Your number just so happens to equal the number of runs the reds have scored so far in consecutive days!
How have we only scored one run on this dude???
Marty talking about the lack of walks by Willy again.
Travis – I’m not doubting your source or the rumors. I’m just not liking that move (obviously there could bemore detail that makes it better for us.)
TOS.
“I was thinking the same thing. Left field is not the real need at present. Especially if you include EE in the conversation. SS, CF, 3rd.”
I don’t think they need an upgrade at 3rd. EE is signed inexpensively this year and next.
Can someone clue me in on TOS. I am assuming there is some profanity in there somewhere.
At least Willy didn’t leave anybody on base that time.
TOS = This offense stinks
Yeah, Marty gives it to Willy plenty.
Davis is not pitching well today. This is about our lack of hitting. 5 hitters in the lineup is not enough.
Thanks Nick and words can describe my level of support for that saying.
Holliday would definitely help the offense, but it’s more the sort of splashy move that might get Cincinnati fans excited about the Reds again. If these rumors are accurate, I suspect that’s got a lot to do with it.
I just can’t believe how much Marty has harped on a player NOT walking after how much he used to get on he who shant be spoken of for walking rather than hitting.
what’s really sad is that harang had the best AB of anyone last inning, and two were the top of the order.
Even if you’re “old school” those guys have to give you good at bats. see some pitches, let other hitters get the timing, all of that.
granted, the AZ offense is nearly as bad as ours, but Harang is pitching well today.
He did mention a few times that WT is the leadoff “hitter” – maybe that’s part of his reasoning. Not that it makes it better.
especially if you are ‘old school’.
And Doug I think it is a case of a middle of the order hitter is supposed to be paid to drive runners in, not take walks; and top of the order guys are to take walks for that to occur.
pitching well? he’s given up 2 more runs than this team is capable of overcoming. maybe he should take a lesson from Cueto who wisened up and decided to give up zero.
I’m late with this, but Keppinger is also making major league minimum (same as Sutton).
Keppinger is 29 with a career minor league batting average of .322 and a 797 OPS (mainly through age 27).
Sutton is 26, career minor league batting overage of .280 with an OPS of 821. Sutton’s repeat year of AA raisaed his homer total from 9-20 homers and raised his SLP. Keppinger was in AAA at 25.
They’re close to being the same player…both out of options…only that Keppinger doesn’t strike out and Sutton strikes out a fair share. Sutton may have a little more pop, but his average will be lower.
The problem with the middle of the lineup guy “doesn’t walk” point, is that it’s really not valid….Ted Williams and Babe Ruth used to walk 150-160 times a year…and they HAD HITTERS to hit around them. Dunn was pretty much on his own…
I don’t necessarily believe in “protection”….but, it only makes some since to not pitch to the guy who can hurt you when no one else can.
Everyone is talking about Holliday but as far as rumors go it looks like the A’s want to move Cabrera as well.
Harang coming back to the mound with over 100 pitches. In the words of Scooby Doo: Rot ro.
Cancel that last. I approve of the move.
I hate to be redundant, but I really feel for Harang. Its got to wear on him something fierce. I dont blame him at all for going off on the bats, etc. Its good for him to let off steam toward this never ending situation.
I didn’t say I really believe in it Steve, but Marty sure does. I’ll personally take a guy getting on base anyway he can. I think that’s why Dunn was an effective #2 hitter. Sure beats what we have at the top of the lineup today.
Harang deserved a W today.
I would take Adam Dunn on this team now. At least his bombs were good for a run. This team does not have much power and obviously cannot seem to succeed at station-to-station ball.
Marty’s TV habits. Sheesh. Who cares?
Justin Upton Ball, Strike (foul), Ball, J Upton grounded out to catcher
That sounds embarrassing
I cannot believe Marty would watch mainstream tv. But if I had to hazzard a guess I would predict a steady diet of Fox News.
I cannot believe how good our bullpen is.
If Dunn was #2 someone might be on base for Votto.
Of course that would be lefty, lefty and the moon would spin out of orbit.
Hanigan really makes the most of his opportunities, doesn’t he?
ryan hannigan is carrying this offense. weird.
Oh wait. Why did I think Hanigan was up to bat?
Hanigan and Willy T are making the front office look bad.
Why can we not advance runners!!!? This is like a never ending episode of the Twilight Zone, which by they way is marathoning on Scifi channel this weekend.
Hernandez making it a perfect day (offensively) for the catchers.
Shocking a lefty to face Bruce.
What’s the point of pulling Hanigan? Richar didn’t take any bases that Hanigan couldn’t have just as easily.
It would be really nice to see Bruce come through here.
Well said Thom.
Have to pinch hit for Taveras here. HAVE TO.
PH for Tavares…please?
Nix for Taveras.
Taveras has ZERO chance to drive in this run.
I’m starting to think that they’re keeping EE out so that fans will appreciate him more when he returns.
Walt: why don’t fans like Edwin? Well, 4 runs in three days against Arizona should do the trick!
Dusty: I like it – no front running there. I’ll make sure Willy leads off.
This is why NL baseball is better than the AL.
This is the third time recently when Baker had to pinch hit for (lead off hitter) Willy Taveras. Shouldn’t that give him some f*cking clue that Taveras shouldn’t be hitting lead off, if at all.
How many times do you think Pete Rose was pinch hit for?
The last two night 18 hits for the Reds to 6 for Arizona. Runs scored Reds 2, Arizona 2.
“This game has been awful,” said the Hall of Famer.
Marty: “This game has been awful!”
*sigh*
ugh.
The 9th inning will be Hairston, Votto, Phillips, and the pitcher’s spot if anyone gets on base. The remaining bench players are Sutton’s major league debut or Owings.
the reds lineup is in shambles. playing a last place team and scoring 4 runs in 3 days, it’s time for a change.
bring up chris heisey and ede already. heck bring up frazier to play short too. at this point, it’s time for some people to face consequences.
Dickerson’s not advancing the runner was huge in that inning. 9Bruce too of course.) Not bashing Dickerson, he’s been playing well, but it’s something the Reds do not do well, a big reason why they can’t manufacture runs.
Walt: why don’t fans like Edwin? Well, 4 runs in three days against Arizona should do the trick!
Dusty: I like it – no front running there. I’ll make sure Willy leads off.
Ryan Freel DFA’d by the Cubs today.
It’s put up or shut up time for the Reds – Marty
That batter was already in “scoring position”, why waste an out moving the runner to 3rd? I think trying for the hit there was the right move. Dickerson didn’t get it. Hernandez did. Richar couldn’t score. (is he not fast? does he not get good jumps? he was the one thrown out at the plate by a mile last night on a similar play)
Sutton with a walk-off hit?
Leadoff man on, nobody out, and our best hitter’s at the plate.
Nice way to start the inning.
What was that?
2-1, AZ leads bottom of the 9th
Hairston singles on the 8th pitch he sees. Runner on first, nobody out.
Votto, Phillips, then the pitchers spot due up.
How did the left fielder lose that? Wow.
Was that off the wall? Looked like a HR on Gamecast, but ended up a single?
I think he might have lost it in the lights, actually. That’s what it looked like, and the lights are on.
Votto was too inpatient to sit in the batters box like Hairston. So he singles the first pitch he sees.
Runners at 2nd (tying run) and 1st (winning run).
Off the wall. The LF was camping under it but ran out of room so it hit 5 feet above his head off the wall.
Keep me informed guys. Sounds like it’s getting good.
It looked like it was gone, but it tailed off and the LF went back against the wall, raised his glove and the ball sailed *just* over it and hit the wall.
Great slide by Votto to break up the double play.
uh-oh, “in play out(s)” Hopefully not a dreaded Phillips special
whew! Sutton hero. Game tied.
No pressure Sutton, just the entire season riding on this at-bat.
At least not a DP. Come on Sutton, you only get one chance to make a first impression…
What happened?
Sutton with a walk-off hit?
Missed it by that much
Owings against his former team.
I’ll take that from Sutton. Tied up! Owings to the plate!
Owings PH for Richar?
Sutton grounded up the middle, force at 2nd, beats out throw at first (Votto made a nice slide), Hairston scores.
Extra baseball on the way.
Nice comeback. Although we have absolutely no pinch hitters now.
It’s a shame we have a roster with several position players (Taveras, Richar, for two) that we have to burn other position players pinch hitting for them.
Of course the Reds should have won this game several times over by now.
preach – runners on 1st & 2nd no out,
Phillips hits grounder that forces Votto at 2nd. Votto slides breaks up the Phillips special (GIDP)
Runners on 1st and 3rd, 1 out for Sutton. Sutton grounds into force play, Hairston scores.
Owings at the plate with 2 outs and winning run at 1st. Ground out to third, and we are into extra innings. Game tied at 2.
Are we now out of hitters?
Bless you, Greg.
Free baseball!!!
And as Steve said, we have no one left on the bench.
This leaves a risk of a position player getting hurt, a pitcher would have to play the field.
So, was it a pitcher who pinch hit for our leadoff guy or the rookie making his major league debut? Either way, does anyone else see a problem here?
Greg (195) I didn’t want Dickerson to bunt or give himself up, I wanted him to swing. But if he hit the ball to the right side, then there’s a better chance Richar can advance to third.
yes
Not necessarily in this order,
but a list of the moves:
Nix PH for Taveras
Richar PR for Hanigan
Owings PH for Richar
Hernandez PH for Janish
Bruce PH for Harang and stayed in the game as a pitcher took over Gomes spot
Sutton PH for Herrera and stayed in the game as pitcher took over for Richar/Owings
Dickerson has played RF, LF and CF today.
2 questions:
Why burn Owings there, w/ a guy on 1st and 2 outs?
Why did Gomes come out for the pitcher last inning? Of all the guy the were PH for, why put the P in the 4 hole in the 9th?
I don’t normally bash the manager but I would say there are some questionable ones in there. They are especially maginfied by this extremely close game.
what is it with coco and no lead?
Thanks, Greg…there clears that up. Sheesh.
So by my calculations Nix is pitching.
What do you know? CoCO in a non save sitch walking the bases loaded, grr..
Dusty is smarter than everyone else because he can make a scorecard that no one else can understand.
CoCo struggles in tie games.
Awesome! DP! Bruce gones him at the plate!
BRUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!! Great call by Thom.
Nice call by Thom there!
When will teams learn not to run on Bruce? Mother of mercy.
Ummmmm…Jay Bruce is awesome.
BRUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!
ATTENTION NATIONAL LEAGUE:
DO NOT RUN ON JAY BRUCE.
gameday tells me that Bruce saved a run, and maybe the game. bases loaded, 1 out, flyout to RF Bruce and Bruce guns down the runner trying to tag and score the winning run.
AHH I MISSED IT?! Flyout and gunout I assume?
Thanks greg!
I am very impressed by this pitcher’s mustache, by the way.
Bruce will get a chance to win the game now in the bottom of the 10th.
Oh man, Oh man. When will teams get the memo on Jays cannon of an arm? This is me hoping it never does. Bruuuuuuuce!!!
C-Dick does it again!
Dickerson leads off the 10th with a single.
I wish I had the opportunity to say that in the 1st inning of every game.
Wow. of all games to miss.
The Reds are now up 12 hits with only 2 runs, plus 4 walks. That takes a serious lack of hitting with runners on talent to score a mere 2 runs with that many runners on.
WOWWWWWW !!!!
Actually I’ve liked most of Dusty’s late game moves, except pinch running Richar for Hannigan.
Hernandez and Sutton came thru, as did Bruce. Nix PHing for Taveras made sense, it just shows how dumb it is having WT batting leadoff.
Dickerson with a leadoff hit. Hmmm.
Yeah, I don’t think this one is televised, unless someone is getting the AZ feed.
Was the play as cool as the computer made it sound?
why would you wanna say he leads off the 10th in the first inning?
Winning run at 2nd (Dickerson).
Hernandez on 1st with walk.
Nobody out.
BRUUUUUUCE!!!!!
BRUUUUUUCE!!!!!
A bunt single for Bruce? What happened (I don’t have TV)?
Bases loaded, nobody out, thanks to the 3B double-clutching for some reason. He fielded it easily.
HAHA I’d like to say “Leads off inning with a single”
Bunt single by Bruce! Bases juiced, no outs for Nix…
bases loaded!
BRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEE
Maybe that’s the key: Play from 10 thru 18. that would be the back nine; and Dusty could use yet another analogy from a sport other than baseball.
Probably should have been a sac bunt but fielder indecision made it a single.
Bruce bunt single.
According to my scorecard, Nix has 2 at-bats, the 2nd AB he has to do right handed.
Don’t do anything stupid, Jerry (or Dusty)!
Dang. Strikeout. But seriously, this pitcher’s mustache is incredible, like Rollie Fingers quality.
ugh!
Nix with a brutal at bat there. 3 pitches, he gone.
Nix K’s
three pitches
Hairston w/ bases loaded & 1 out
Votto on-deck
What are the chances of Hairston getting this run in?
Thom Brennaman really talks too much.
2 outs now, bases still loaded. At least Votto’s up, the one guy who is decent in these situations more often than not.
VOTTOMATIC.
Votto wins it!
VOTTO!!!!!
Reds win!! Reds Win!!!
i cant handle another 15 inning game … if we can’t score w/ bases loaded and no outs , we should just forfiet and save our bullpen
NICE
Like I said! VOTTO!
“I have never seen a team as offensively challenged as this one”
“Isn’t it always up to Joey Votto?”
Season in a nutshell.
And as I’m typing this Votto-matic walks off with a bleeder. GO REDS!
VOTTO!
It’s always up to Joey Votto… and he delivers!!!!!!!!!!
my feed’s a little behind …. thank you joey v !!!!!!!
We have an absolute obligation to get Votto on the All Star team.
I go blotto for Votto.
unreal. votto is simply unreal. he puts so many other reds to shame.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! VOTTOMATIC!!!!!! YESYESYES!!!!
Unbelievable!
Wow, when’s the last time the Reds got a walk-off or at least a late comeback?
Just goes to show you who’s money on this team.
Votto 4 for 6
Hairston + Taveras 1 for 9
Game would have been over a long time ago if someone like Hanigan (3 for 3 with a walk) was batting 2nd.
I guess that gives CoCo the win?
Votto + Hanigan = half the team’s 14 hits
Hanigan + Hernandez 4 for 4 with 2 walks
Wow, just wow. Anyone more valuable to their team right now, other than maybe Alber Pujols?
VOTTOMATIC !!!!!!
What a game. I felt better about his chance of getting the run home with two outs than those other guys with 0 and 1 outs.
Sweet. I have a view of first base from my office and heard the crowd roar and watched Votto step on the bag and bolt to the dugout for celebration. Almost like watching a game at Wrigley from a rooftop a quarter mile away.
Dusty says “i knew i didn’t need a stinking bench in extra innings”
Can Votto be cloned?
I’ve never seen so many bats dry up with a runner on third
Some silly stuff has to stop now. I mean hitting Taveras and Hairston 1-2. It wasted 2 of Joey’s hits today.
There are much better options, as we all know.
Thank God for Votto. They need to give him an eight year contract today or sooner.
