Triple – A

Louisville 8 – Gwinnett 2

Chris Valaika was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a double, run scored, and 3 runs batted in.  Valaika has struggled this season, batting just .194 this season.  Darnell McDonald went 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.  Danny Dorn hit his 11th homerun of the season in the 8th inning while pinch-hitting.

Justin Lehr improved to 11-2 on the season after allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings pitched.  Lehr is a perfect 6-0 since joining Louisville.

Double – A

Carolina 7 – Chattanooga 6

Michael Griffin hit his first homerun of the season in Carolina and went 2-5 in the game with 2 runs scored.  Brian Peterson drove in 3 rbis while going 2-4 at the plate with a double.  Juan Francisco went 3-5 with a double, rbi, and run scored.

Steven Otterness picked up the win in his debut in double – A Carolina.  Otterness pitched 2.1 scoreless, hitless innings while walking 1 and striking out 1.  Steven is pitching at his 3rd level this season,  pitching at both Dayton and Sarasota and now with Carolina.

Class A Advanced

Tampa 6 – Sarasota 1

The 1 through 7 batters in the Reds lineup each had a hit, but they only had 1 each and could only push 1 run across.  Devin Mesoraco, batting 3rd in the lineup, drove in the lone run and had a double.  Devin is still batting just .207/.303/.350 on the season.

Rafael Gonzalez walked 6 and allowed 4 hits and 3 runs in just 4 innings pitched to pick up the loss and fall to 1-3 on the season.

Single – A

The Dragons did not play.

Rookie League

The game between the GCL Reds and the GCL Red Sox was postponed.

Helena 11 – Billings 3

Yen-Wen Kuo went 2-4 with a double and is batting .462 through 3 games thus far.  Joshua Garton and Humberto Sosa each went 1-4 with a double.

Shea Snowden fell to 0-2 on the season after allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings pitched to pick up the loss.

  • Mesoraco hit 2nd in the lineup, as he has been…and after watching him last year in Dayton, I think he’s come a long way, especially defensively. He had a great game defensively last night, the Reds pitchers were in the dirt all night and not one got by Devin. He also threw a runner out stealing second. His double, like his HR on Saturday night, was absolutely crushed….he’s young, but he’s progressing. I have a tendency to believe he’s hitting in the #2 spot to make sure he gets plenty of ABs.

Gonzalez was brutal, leaving the bases loaded without giving up a run in the first and second innings, so his stats could have been much, MUCH worse.

Mesoraco hit just .143 in April (494 ops) but the past two months a better .231 (715 ops). Even with the low batting average, positives include 15 extra-base-hits and 17 walks in 147 at-bats.

Dorn’s carrying a 1.024ops for June. Nice to him him turn it around.

Louisville is playing Gwinnett live on MLB Network right now! It’s their first minor-league game.

    Rosales already has a triple.

EE isn’t listed as being onthe Louisville roster and Rosales is playing 3rd. Did the Reds recall him?

I haven’t seen the announcement yet Brian.

Sutton is leading off and playing SS. Sutton and Richar should flip-flop spots on the roster.

Valaika and Heisey with a rally killer each.

How’s Sutton look? I really want that guy to pan out. A switch-hitting middle infielder with some pop, and who also will take a walk — that’s a pretty cool combination.

Sutton at 2B and Phillips at SS maybe?

And Lecure with the only run, a solo homerun allowed, 3 other hits a walk through 5 innings. It is his first run allowed since June 14, ending a 17.2 innings scoreless streak.

heisey has been crushing the ball since his promotion. it’s early, and he has a lot to demonstrate in aaa, but it seems like he could be a late season boost for the reds if this keeps up.
