Redleg Nation Minor League Players of the Month – May 2009

The competition was fierce in May, but the editors here at Redleg Nation have voted and determined that Chris Heisey and Travis Wood are May’s minor league players of the month.

Hitter of the Month: In the month of May alone, Heisey hit .404/.461/.614 with 4 homeruns and 17 rbis.  He also tallied 10 doubles, a triple, scored 21 runs, and stole 3 bases.  He drew 12 walks compared to just 9 strikeouts for the month.  Congratulations to Chris for a fine month of May.

Also receiving consideration: Yonder Alonso and Cody Puckett

Pitcher of the Month: Travis Wood was nearly a unanimous choice by the editors here, despite the fact that the Reds had some outstanding pitching numbers in the minors this month.  In May, Wood went 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 6 starts.  Travis struck out 31 and allowed 16 walks in 37.1 innings pitched.  For the season, Wood is now 4-3 with a microscopic 1.53 Earned Run Average.  Congratulations to Travis for his outstanding performance in May.

Also receiving consideration: Matt Maloney

April Players of the Month: Adam Rosales and Matt Maloney

I would imagine that Alonso is right on time to be at 1B by May of 2010. I’m actually surprised that with an outfield of Stubbs, McDonald and Hopper, Louisville hasn’t called up Heisey or Frazier.

    Don’t forget Dorn.

I don’t think defensively Fraiser is a AAA outfielder yet.

Dorn has had a bad year.

  • McDonald, nor Hopper should play in front of Dorn. IMO, the Louisville OF should be Dorn, Stubbs, & Heisey. I’m not ready to move Frazier up yet…mainly b/c I don’t know where he’d play in Louisville.

What’s the report on Frazier’s OF defense?

Bill – he could play different positions, just like AA. I’d put him at 1B, 3B, and the OF. There’s also the DH spot if one of the two teams is an AL team. Encarnacion will be getting some games at 3rd when he’s on rehab.

Other than Edwin, I wouldn’t let Griffin, Barker, Bankston, Hopper, or McDonald play in front of Frazier.

  • I concur, if he’d get enough regular ABs…I don’t know about his defense, haven’t seen him play.
