Down on the Farm – 2009.05.20

Games played on Tuesday, May 19

Triple – A

Norfolk 7 – Louisville 2

Drew Stubbs went just 1-5 in the game, but his 1 hit was his first homerun of the season and accounted for the 2 Bats runs in the game.  Kevin Barker and Craig Tatum had 2 hits each in the loss.

Daryl Thompson made the start and went just 3 innings, allowing 1 hit.  I’m not sure why he left after 3.   Ben Jukich came in in relief and was roughed up, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 1.2 innings pitched.

Double – A

Carolina 3 – Jacksonville 0

A great pitching night by the Mudcats.  Starter Jordan Smith pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 4.  Smith improved to 3-0 with the win.  Ramon Geronimo and Sean Watson combined to pitch 3 perfect, hitless innings of relief, striking out 5.

Class A Advanced

Sarasota 4 – Palm Beach 2

Neftali Soto and Alex Buchholz went 2-3 each with a walk.  Soto added a double and 2 runs scored.  Yonder Alonso added an rbi and hit his 11th double of the season.

Travis Webb improved to 2-2 on the season with the win.  Webb allowed 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks in 6.2 innings pitched.  He struck out 4.  Phillippe-Alexandre Valiquette picked up his 3rd save of the season by pitching a perfect 9th inning.  He struck out 2.

Single – A

Lansing 2 – Dayton 1

Dave Sappelt and Byron Wiley had 2 hits each in 3 at-bats.  One of Wiley’s hits was a double, his 5th of the season.

Steven Otterness pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief.  He allowed 2 hits and struck out 4.

From the Enquirer “Daryl Thompson started for Louisville and pitched 3.0 shutout innings before leaving the game with shoulder tightness”
