You know what…none of us are front-runners. We are Reds fans. If we were front-runners, we’d be rooting for the Red Sox or the Yankees or the Cardinals.

What a joke…If Janish doesn’t start when Gonzo is out then there is no need for him on the roster…
Dusty is such a liar…The reason Janish was kept over Rosales opening day was because of Gonzo’s health questions, so they wanted him for insurance. Then Gonzo goes out and he plays Hairston…what a joke.
Have I been wrong all these years about what the expression “front-runner” means? Saying that makes no sense in the context of talking about not taking a player out of the lineup when someone else is doing better….right? What does front-runner mean?
Yeah.. I’m pretty sure that was another fine move by Jim Bowden. Just think what the Reds would have looked like throughout the 90’s and even now if Bowden had never happened.
I had forgotten about MickeyD’s bunt attempt. I have always been confused on why teams rarely use a pitcher to pinch hit for the sac bunt. It seems logical to use guys who are used to it and then you save a position player. If he somehow reaches base you can always replace him then.
And in a 14 inning game, why not use Owings to hit when you know you won’t need him for anything else later?
at least Dickerson is at the bottom of the order?
yeah, so someone WORSE can be in the #2 spot. That’s really really odd
Dickerson is better than Hairston in the #2 spot and Rosales is better than both
I can’t even start to take a guess as to WHY Dusty builds lineups like these.
I’m not a fan of “playing the hot hand” but Rosales has gotten on base EVERY game since being called up from AAA where he was crushing the ball, Hairston has return to pre-2008 form and Dickerson has looked, well, confused out there. This should be a no-brainer
and Janish was 2-2 last night coming off the bench and has a .944 OPS in his limited playing time.
Dusty’s in the twilight zone. It’s not like we are saying play these guys over players who should turn it around. It’s more likely that Hairston and Dickerson don’t turn it around.
Thom just said that Johnson move to the plate was too quick (1.2) for them to steal…Cowboy said some times was that quick but most was 1.4 and “you can steal on that.”
So you were OK with the Cantu deal? He was good with the Reds and there were dozens of others on the 40 man they could have dropped. They let him go for absolutely nothing. It’s not so much I miss Cantu, it’s how they let him go that’s frustrating.
I was not OK with the Cantu deal, but I choose to pull for this franchise that makes stupid decision after stupid decision. I can’t make them not do stupid shit, but once they’ve done it, pininig away doesn’t help or change anything.
Even if he did tick people off, that’s a horrible way to manage a club. Just because he makes you mad you’re going to ignore his talent and value and simply cut the guy? How is that “showing Cantu who’s boss?” I bet he really learned his lesson from that. That was clear cut mismanagement. I certainly hope that wasn’t the scenario.

I’m not trying to change anything. I’m simply reflecting on how stupid that move was now that we’re playing the Marlins. I don’t wake up every morning and try to catch up on how Javier Valentine or Rheal Cormier are doing.
I like wondering how things might be different.
for example, what if we let Hairston go and keep Keppinger. That’s not a big deal and isn’t going to send this team over the top but Keppinger has been crushing the ball so far this year.
the other day I even wondered how things might be different if we didn’t trade Hamilton for Volquez or Dunn for Owings.
Quit talking about Cantu. Only talk about current players, and only say positive things about them. The Reds have never made a bad decision, and even if they did, it’s in the past, why talk about it?
Don’t talk about Trevor Hoffman. Talk about Tim Pugh. He’s the guy the Reds chose to protect, so I choose to talk about the guy who wore the Reds jersey.
wow, on the Marlin’s TV broadcast they are interviewing the author of “The Fielding Bible”. It’s a good interview.
No way in hell the Reds “broadcasters” would ever do that or at least understand it.
McKeon just said that had the Reds pitched Harnisch in the ‘99 playoff game, we had a good chance to win the game. If memory recalls, didn’t we lose the game 3-0 with John Smiley getting the start? How do we have a better chance to win? WE didn’t even score!
@EKY, To be fair, Dempster wasn’t all that great his last couple years with the marlins or his entire time with the Reds…Kinda pulled it back together once he went to the bullpen in Chitown
Good one Jimmy James. Maybe Chad could hook up the “nation” with a scrolling game thread board. It couldn’t be any more confusing and clustered than the ones they have their now!
EKyReds: I stepped away from the mac last night for the later innings and was pleased to see that I wasnt alone in noticing the FS cameraman pervving around for the ladies in tight white spandex. His quick zoom-out fooled no one.
Carolina’s game tonight got postponed, thus Matt Klinker will not make his start with the Mudcats. Matt should have felt right at home had they played this one in the rain!
No joke Jason. He had that camera zoomed in so far he could probably tell what kind of underwear they had on. You know those guys in the truck see that and immediately say “Go to camera 4.”
speaking of Bowden setting the Reds back. I agree
I feel like THIS season is the first season we’ve fully gotten away from Bowden’s ideas.
We FINALLY have a rotation. He was awful at bringing in bad or washed up pitchers and the Reds have had a horrible rotation during and since Bowden.
you can see this in Washington now. Washington has the worst rotation in baseball. It’s going to take them a long time before they can rebuild it, undoing Bowden’s mess
yeah mike, I was saying earlier it would be interesting to see what the Reds would look like today and through those long 11 years had Bowden never been hired.
Welsh makes a great point. Phillips just held in there and went the other way with the pitch. If he wouldn’t try to yank everything out of the park, he’d do a better job getting things done. (stating the obvious)
Jim Day probably did something embarrassing today.. you could tell he was lying trying to come up with a story. He probably got a manicure and went shoe shopping.
I was just remembering that a couple years ago Volstad was a top pitching prospect
I remember him being mentioned as a slightly lesser prospect than Bailey
Interesting to look it up and think about how difficult it is to get to the majors and be successful. After the 2006 season here are some selected pitchers from the top 50 pitching prospects from back then.
I have no idea. I’ve always hoped they would replace him with an attractive female.. like the girl who worked for the Brewers last year. she works for MLB network now.
Is it possible we are taking this teams pitching for granted already? With all the squawking over “I aint no front runner” and lack of hitting/havoc, I think we might be doing so.
Yeah, the Onion kills me. Some of the “quotes” from Biden in that article are priceless.
“Back in the day we used to call ‘em panty-melters,” Biden continued. “One babe caught a glimpse of those rims after a Cinderella concert in ‘86 and she couldn’t get into that backseat fast enough. If any of you girls wanna take a ride, just let ol’ Joe know.”
mhopp you are close with the 99.9%
I just looked up the live win probability for the Reds on fan graphs and the Reds are at 94% chance of winning right now
I definitely think Harang, Cueto and Volquez are very very good starters.
The Reds have had the 7th best rotation in baseball so far this year and the bullpen is the 3rd best in baseball so far.
Trade BP for a cleanup hitter to play LF and let Hairston play second. Hairston can pick it, can hit and run, and hustles. You won’t miss BP and Dickerson……….ho hah!
I’m from Delaware. Joe’s no wife beater but that can’t be said for Senator Carper from the First State. His first wife alleged that when she divorced him.
They’re giving the credit to Phillips but really Votto deserves some since they’re walking Votto to get to Phillips because Votto is impossible to get out and now BP is getting good pitches to hit…I’ll take it!
Jimmy James you are dead right if during this string of losing seasons we had a staff like we do now we would have definitely won the division in 2004 and 2005. The offense was great in 2004 and 2005
Maybe they will have special promotions for gangs. One pays regular price and his homies get in for half price. Rival gangs can shoot at each other from across the ballpark.
I agree with George that it is a mistake for the Marlins to locate the new ballpark further south into Miami. To draw more fans, the ballpark needs to be centrally located so it can easily draw from all directions. Fans wants quick easy access to a ballpark and they want to be able to quickly get home after the game.
Yes. And they’re required to flash their gang sign and/or tattoos to the ticket taker at the turnstyle. We don’t want any Nazi Lowriders to sneek in there and get an ubrella.
I was just reading and writing on the Reds ListServ about that 2004 team — answering the question, “when was the last time you were optimistic about the Reds.
The 2004 team was LOADED, and scored 750 runs, but allowed 907. They were 10 games under .500, but “should have” been 30 games under, given that run differential. With any pitching at all, they’d have been in great shape for a few years. Instead, Dan O’Brien (and Karl Lindner – he doesn’t escape blame) did this:
Resigned Paul Wilson.
Traded for Ramon Ortiz Dec. 14 (giving up Dustin Mosely, I think).
Signed reliever Ben Weber.
Signed David Weathers.
Signed Kent Mercker.
Signed Joe Randa.
And, as the centerpiece. . . signed Mr. Eric Milton.
If the Reds continue to throw a multitude of shutouts as they have been, do they end up with the trio of Harang, Volquez, and Cueto all going to the All-Star Game?
Yes, a winning homestand would be beyond great to see. I like our chances of getting the Cards at least 2 of 3, with Harang, Volkkie and Cueto on the bump.
It really was, Chad. Everything clicked for us tonight, and B.P came through. Did you happen to tally how many times “I aint no front-runner” was used in the thread tonight?

I’m at the U of L vs. Ohio State baseball game. These dudes hustle.
But do they have veteran presence and play with HAVOC? That’s the true measure of a team. That, and they can’t be front runners.
They hit mammoth homers. The Cards have clubbed two.
Ok, just turned on Lance McCallister. Has anyone got any kind of response back from last nights flood of e-mails to him?
I guess Janish is in Dustys dog house for his “error” last night, even though it was a group “error”. Ugh, tiresome.
Actually, I read on Fay’s blog that Dusty blamed Herrera for the error. Dusty has never liked Herrera so that’s no surprise.
Plus, Hairston is not the best option for SS tonight, so he gets to play. Sorry. Dusty’s rules.
Yeah, I couldnt believe Dusty threw the guy under the bus like that. It was a group error, in my humble opinion.

What a joke…If Janish doesn’t start when Gonzo is out then there is no need for him on the roster…
Yeah, as soon as it was hit you knew something bad was going to happen. So what is the verdict on Gonzo and who will be called up to replace him?
Of course Hairstons not the best option for SS tonight, thats why he is playing.
Dusty is such a liar…The reason Janish was kept over Rosales opening day was because of Gonzo’s health questions, so they wanted him for insurance. Then Gonzo goes out and he plays Hairston…what a joke.
My guess is Wilkin Castillo with Janish and Hairston to split SS. But I have no idea.
At least Dickerson is in the bottom third tonight.
The Reds really screwed over Tony Perez.
OK boys. Got the vodka and the cranberry and a couple hours to kill
Go Reds.
Have I been wrong all these years about what the expression “front-runner” means? Saying that makes no sense in the context of talking about not taking a player out of the lineup when someone else is doing better….right? What does front-runner mean?
I think my most frustrating part of this season thus far (in game) was McDonalds lame attempts at a bunt last night.
I have no idea. Why would you NOT want the frontrunner in the lineup? If Nix is the frontrunner, then where’s Dickerson?
and since the ss must bat second, it makes more sense to start Hairston than Janish. C’mon guys, the logic is not that hard to follow here……
McDonald’s “fringe-ness” got exposed last night even more.
Yeah, cant help to feel bad for Tony Perez every time i see him interviewed. He really does seem as genuine as they come.
Yeah.. I’m pretty sure that was another fine move by Jim Bowden. Just think what the Reds would have looked like throughout the 90’s and even now if Bowden had never happened.

Dusty’s in the twilight zone. It’s not like we are saying play these guys over players who should turn it around. It’s more likely that Hairston and Dickerson don’t turn it around.
So…any of you guys front-runners?
Help me out here. what did Dusty mean when he said “I ain’t no front-runner”. I honestly don’t know what he’s talking about.
What’s crazy about putting Hairston at short is that he is twice as bad as Gonzo defensively.
If you concede that none of these guys can hit (hairston, Janish, Gonzo), then give me the guy who is the best defensively. That’s Janish.
Of course, Dusty obviously thinks Hairston can hit. Why else would he bat him second?
It means he doesn’t want to be in first place.
Dusty Baker won’t let Taveras try to steal very many bases. Dusty’s no front-runner.
Great “Transformers” reference by Welsh. Cheesy, yes, but I enjoyed it.
I’d easily concede that Hairston, Janish, Gonzo, Dickerson, McDonald, Nix, Taveras and Hanigan won’t hit
I’ve decided. I’m cheering for the Reds tonight.
Don’t go out on a limb there, Mike?
I modified the suggested t-shirt slogan of “I ain’t no front-runner” to “I ain’t no front-runner (WTHTM).”
WTHTM = whatever the hell that means
I would like to know what the hell it means. You know, if anyone wants to enlighten me.
I’d say if Gonzo goes on the DL Castillo will be brought up and Hannigan might see more PH ops. due to Castillo on the roster.
Every time I see Hanley Ramirez, even if they show him in the field, I get nervous. That guy can HIT.
Listened to Thom Brennaman’s pre-game interview of Baker. Not a single question regarding the total lack of HAVOC last night.
Over/Under 100 on how many times we include the phrase: “I aint no front-runner” tonight?
I’ll be rooting for the Reds too. I bleed Red(s)!
Over.
I hope it isn’t Wilkin Castillo. He plays a bunch of positions, and he plays all of them poorly. He’s just begging for Dusty to mis-use him.
Thom probably didn’t want Dusty to throw a tantrum like he apparently did the other day.
Thom just said that Johnson move to the plate was too quick (1.2) for them to steal…Cowboy said some times was that quick but most was 1.4 and “you can steal on that.”
Hair-iston picks up a steal.
Votto-Matic!
There ya go! HAVOC!!!!!
Votto knocks in Harriston. Man, this guy just keeps hitting!
Havoc…! I actually agree with Cowboy (that is scary) said that is what they should have done last night.
I’m going to go register firedustybaker.net
I love how Jorge Cantu has 25 RBi, and we just gave him away for free.
Boy, the Reds are so smart.
BP fails again. Surprise.
Cantu can hit, but is brutal in the field. I’d say he pissed some people off just to dump him though.
If Dusty ain’t no front runner, then he’ll probably call up Juan Francisco since he’s not hitting well.
Yeah, but he can hit. Look how many guys Dusty runs out there every night that CAN’T hit.
Is Joey Votto even human?
I wonder what that loser the reds got in the rule 5 is doing now.. the one they had to cut cantu in order to make room for.
Yeah I know. That’s what I’m hoping for. Maybe he can trick Dusty into thinking he’s not a front runner.
Votto-Matic!
Perfect description…can we start a website?
peace out bonafacio.
Great pitch by Edinson.
Poor ol’ George Grande is killing me. I really don’t know how Welsh stands it.
George just doesn’t shut up. I feel bad for his wife.
I thought one of the cardinal rules of broadcasting was not to speak while the pitch is being delivered. GG just headbuts his way through that rule.
Good inning there
Anybody else read about Jack McKeon still wanting to manage? Can we get him…like now! I’d love to see him managing the Reds again.
http://www.daytondailynews.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/cincinnatireds/entries/2009/05/05/jack_mckeon_still_wants_to_man.html
Jack McKeon is still alive?
‘I love how Jorge Cantu has 25 RBi, and we just gave him away for free.’
Do you guys pine away for ex-girlfriends like you pine away for ex-Reds?
Only the ex-girlfriends who can hit.
Once a Red always a Red
The Cards are winning 17-0. Dominguez has 2 home runs and 8 RBI
So you were OK with the Cantu deal? He was good with the Reds and there were dozens of others on the 40 man they could have dropped. They let him go for absolutely nothing. It’s not so much I miss Cantu, it’s how they let him go that’s frustrating.
The George Grande Drinking Game could be introduced by giving the first one to Chris Welch to play during the telecast. He would be so wasted!!
I hear Dominguez is a stud.
I thought is was dumb, like I said earlier he must have ticked some people off just to get cut.
‘Once a Red always a Red’
All of them? Even the terrible ones?
I was not OK with the Cantu deal, but I choose to pull for this franchise that makes stupid decision after stupid decision. I can’t make them not do stupid shit, but once they’ve done it, pininig away doesn’t help or change anything.

sure, I loosely follow most ex-Red
just yesterday I was wondering where Rob Bell was
I’m not trying to change anything. I’m simply reflecting on how stupid that move was now that we’re playing the Marlins. I don’t wake up every morning and try to catch up on how Javier Valentine or Rheal Cormier are doing.
Nice catch by Dickerson.
I bet Dusty’s got a rager after that catch.
Wonder if Merriweather has stopped seeing double yet?
“Only the ex-girlfriends who can hit.”:D
Another good inning for Volquez
Quit talking about Cantu. Only talk about current players, and only say positive things about them. The Reds have never made a bad decision, and even if they did, it’s in the past, why talk about it?
when was the last time the Reds let a pitcher go who could pitch?
they haven’t had many good pitchers in the last 10 years to begin with.
I’d have liked to see Affeldt on this roster instead of Lincoln but there aren’t many pitchers the Reds let go that matter much
so yeah, only the ex-girlfriends who can hit
Yeah, Volquez is looking good so far.
Did anyone hear anything else about Merriweather? He wasn’t seriously hurt, was he? He sure looked like he was going to be when he first got hit.
You could argue BJ Ryan, Ryan Dempster, and Trevor Hoffman.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Affeldt didn’t want to come back, but I definitely was hoping the Reds could re-sign him.
Don’t talk about Trevor Hoffman. Talk about Tim Pugh. He’s the guy the Reds chose to protect, so I choose to talk about the guy who wore the Reds jersey.

Votto creates HAVOC!
More HAVOC from Votto-matic!
Welch needs to ask McKeon if he is a front-runner.
Havoc….
I don’t think I want to talk about Tim Pugh. haha
Trader Jack ain’t no front-runner.
I like this line up:
Votto
Votto
Votto
Votto
Votto
Votto
Votto
Votto
Cueto or Volquez
@EKY, To be fair, Dempster wasn’t all that great his last couple years with the marlins or his entire time with the Reds…Kinda pulled it back together once he went to the bullpen in Chitown
Brandon Phillips is awesome.
Dempster I was happy to see leave. He was awful as a Red. He found a pitching coach who helped him turn it around.
but yeah Ryan and Hoffman….wow
Phillips is awesome! He should be batting 4th after that rbi single.
Imagine the fun we could have if we could hijack control of the scoreboard at GABP.
BP is starting to warm up…now he needs to take off too.
Is there anyone in MLB who is uglier than Jorge Cantu? Man, that guy scares me.
nice lineup mhopp ….better than even the BRM…though that lineup would have some trouble turning the double play
Jack McKeon just said the most important thing about managing is “making the right decision.”
Brilliant.
Team Phillips is incapable of HAVOC.
darn…did he get a terrible jump or what?
Yeah… I agree with you all about Dumpster. I was just throwing his name out there for argument.
Is there anyone in MLB who is uglier than Jorge Cantu? Man, that guy scares me.
Adam Rosales is right up there with Cantu.
You know, we could also drink every time Welsh mentions Sparky Anderson’s book.
Jim–
They should use one of the secondary scoreboards like a stock ticker….just let the RN game thread roll across the scoreboard.
Lazy slide- if he chugs in there, he is safe.
Jack McKeon just said the most important thing about managing is “making the right decision.”
Dusty hasn’t figured that concept out yet.
Adam Rosales is a beauty queen next to Jorge Cantu.
BP slid about 89′ 10″. He needed to finish it up but he did not. That’s a dog slide.
Good one Jimmy James. Maybe Chad could hook up the “nation” with a scrolling game thread board. It couldn’t be any more confusing and clustered than the ones they have their now!
BP doggin’it? No way.
They should use one of the secondary scoreboards like a stock ticker….just let the RN game thread roll across the scoreboard.
Make sure it is one that can be viewed easily from Dusty’s spot in the Reds dugout.
So did Jack McKeon just piss off Jim Bowden like everyone else?
Nice!!
Reverse HAVOC
sweet defensive Havoc!!!
Picked him off! Nice play there by BP. lol
That was a well executed pick-off play.
Nice inning…I like how they have started this game
Cody Ross is Rob Corrdry’s doppleganger, seriously.
Now a couple nice plays by BP. The man does have some talent when he’s not imitating a cocker spaniel.
At this point, I think Dusty plays Dickerson to spite the fans who want Nix.
Bowden was probably threatened by McKeon’s presence.
Yeah, I truly believe Dusty makes moves sometimes to spite us “front runners” out here in redleg nation.
Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals (?) — Answer to the AFLAC question. Not sure about the Royals. Have they won 2 titles?
Edinson Volquez is good.
ITS JOCKETTY, GG!!
In reference to the McKeon conversation:
A GM should surround himself with people who compensate for his weaknesses.
Bowden was/is such a douchebag.
Jockerty.
I also truly believe GG says things “JOCKERRTY” to spite us “front runners” here in redleg nation.
Man! Hernandez is fast!!
:-*
My anger with Bowden really and truly does grow with each passing year.
And Hair-iston.
Chris what was the question…I missed it
You guys are just front-runners. Dusty ain’t.
Wow! Hernandez can move!!! Nice.
IMO, Jim Bowden single-handedly set the Reds back 11 years.
and Hernandez is athletic!!
The marlins are 1 of 3 expansion teams to win multiple titles. The other two are?
I missed 1.
Marlins and Blue Jays
They gave you marlins. You have to name the other 2. Blue Jays was right.
OUT!
excellent throw!
When did Mark Berry starting coaching 3B for the Marlins?
Get Some!! Redlegs D stepping up something fierce tonight!
I honestly had a feeling Volquez was gonna take a no-no deep tonight. Leave it to Ramirez to end those hopes.
The Mets were an expansion team. They’ve won 2.
Now that was a great team defensive play
That was huge.
Mets was the other answer.
Funny Mark Berry comment, Jim. :p
Nice inning.
EKyReds: I stepped away from the mac last night for the later innings and was pleased to see that I wasnt alone in noticing the FS cameraman pervving around for the ladies in tight white spandex. His quick zoom-out fooled no one.
Was Enos Slaugher’s mad dash from 1B in the 1946 World Series the greatest HAVOC play of all-time?
Volquez rollin so far!
Carolina’s game tonight got postponed, thus Matt Klinker will not make his start with the Mudcats. Matt should have felt right at home had they played this one in the rain!
Sorry to hear that about Matt. I imagine he was only up for one start.
Maybe he’ll get promoted again soon.
Run Willy Run!
No joke Jason. He had that camera zoomed in so far he could probably tell what kind of underwear they had on. You know those guys in the truck see that and immediately say “Go to camera 4.”
speaking of Bowden setting the Reds back. I agree

you can see this in Washington now. Washington has the worst rotation in baseball. It’s going to take them a long time before they can rebuild it, undoing Bowden’s mess
“He’ll put it in his pocket.” drink.
Havoc!!!! Come on Joey
Is that something like the Reds 800th bunt attempt this season?
I think that bunt may have rolled foul if he had let it go. He should have as he had no chance when he picked it up.
yeah mike, I was saying earlier it would be interesting to see what the Reds would look like today and through those long 11 years had Bowden never been hired.
if i’m not mistaken, the reds mic is picking up some actual reds fans tonight.
what’s up with willy t and his inability to steal bases?
Phillips grounds into a DP or a FC.
Votto walks! Loaded for DP, I mean, BP
BP = DP ?
man there is a huge gap for brandon in right center.
BP is soooo not clutch! I mean of course they’re going to pitch around Votto :emotion:
BP is my HERO!
and I gladly eat my words
I take it back. Good call on right center al.
Actually a nice piece of hitting by Team Phillips.
Good job Team Phillips…he is getting it going finally!
Get Some!! Tonight is a good one all around thus far!!
good piece of hitting.
Welsh makes a great point. Phillips just held in there and went the other way with the pitch. If he wouldn’t try to yank everything out of the park, he’d do a better job getting things done. (stating the obvious)
Bruce does the BP DP honors this time.
amazing what can happen when your cleanup hitter doesn’t make an out
Lousy curveball. Y-City could have hit that one.
I’d like to see Volquez go 8. How many pitches has he thrown?
Could C-Dick have gotten to that?
only 47 pitches through 4
Mike, I thought there was some kind of congressional mandate that your cleanup hitter had to make an out. Glad to see BP coming through!
Wow, thats efficient.
Jim Day probably did something embarrassing today.. you could tell he was lying trying to come up with a story. He probably got a manicure and went shoe shopping.
Yeah, that was story by Jim Day was not true, def more to that guy than meets the eye.
Never trust a story about how a guy spent his day in South Beach on a Tuesday in May if he had his teeth capped (Jim Day. Woody Paige).
Lousy curveball. Y-City could have hit that one.
It was have been lousy. I was out of the room feeding cats.
The Reds are dangerous when we score runs.
These guys are calling that catch by Dickerson as a trap…I disagree
The Reds are dangerous when we score runs.
and play defense.
#1 Hughes
#4 Bailey
#5 Lincecum
#40 Volquez
#42 Volstad
Never trust Jim Day’s stories when they begin like, “Uhhh ummm ehhhhh… I uhh… Well..”
Jim Day’s a little sketchy anyway. How’d he get that job?
“Shirtless Biden Washes Trans Am In White House Driveway”
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/shirtless_biden_washes_trans_am_in?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I have no idea. I’ve always hoped they would replace him with an attractive female.. like the girl who worked for the Brewers last year. she works for MLB network now.
The Onion is so frickin’ hilarious. I think they should have had Biden in a wife beater.
I feel so comfortable with Volquez rolling along…I’m actually 99.9% sure the Reds will win this game
The pitching staff ain’t no front-runners.
“panty melters” lol
mhopp you are close with the 99.9%
I just looked up the live win probability for the Reds on fan graphs and the Reds are at 94% chance of winning right now
Doggie! Tony Perez!
At least Harriston hustles.
pitchers are getting smarter.. Bp’s not protecting Votto at all.
I definitely think Harang, Cueto and Volquez are very very good starters.
The Reds have had the 7th best rotation in baseball so far this year and the bullpen is the 3rd best in baseball so far.
no taking for granted here
Trade BP for a cleanup hitter to play LF and let Hairston play second. Hairston can pick it, can hit and run, and hustles. You won’t miss BP and Dickerson……….ho hah!
Hayden Penn had a 108 ERA after his first game in the majors.
We’ve suffered a LONG time with crappy pitching. We definitely shouldn’t take it for granted.
If the Reds had this kind of pitching for the last decade, they would have won a couple of division titles, at least.
I’m from Delaware. Joe’s no wife beater but that can’t be said for Senator Carper from the First State. His first wife alleged that when she divorced him.
Is the projected Marlins ballpark bulletproof?
That was a NO DOUBTER!!!!!!
Brandon!!!! I love you all of a sudden!
Hell Yeah!!! Way to go BP
I feeling good now.
Its starting to come together, Lou. Its starting to come together.
They’re giving the credit to Phillips but really Votto deserves some since they’re walking Votto to get to Phillips because Votto is impossible to get out and now BP is getting good pitches to hit…I’ll take it!
Team Phillips is the hot bat tonight.
BP is having a night for sure.
BP ain’t no front-runner.
I guess he’s getting himself straightened out, which is good for the Reds.
“Is the projected Marlins ballpark bulletproof?”
nicely done.
He absolutely crushed that ball.
Jimmy James you are dead right if during this string of losing seasons we had a staff like we do now we would have definitely won the division in 2004 and 2005. The offense was great in 2004 and 2005
Yeah, I wonder how many gangs will claim the new ballpark as their territory?
pitches can’t be grooved more than that fastball from penn.
not to take too much away from phillips. 6 rbi is 6 rbi.
That pitch was definitely grooved. Even I could have hit it out of the infield.
This staff with the 2004/2005 team would have rivaled the BRM in terms of completely overwhelming the opposition.
Yeah who cares about grooved. If he didn’t hit it, then complain about that. But he did what he was supposed to do.
Maybe they will have special promotions for gangs. One pays regular price and his homies get in for half price. Rival gangs can shoot at each other from across the ballpark.
Dusty, be ready to pull Volquez.
I don’t think anyone’s complaining. Brandon crushed it.
They just showed the replay, and it was right in BP’s wheelhouse. Bad pitch. Great result.
hahaha.. they can have Bloods night, Crips night, and MS13 or whatever the mexican mafia is called night.
Oh no. Old McDonald is getting loose in the dugout.
I agree with George that it is a mistake for the Marlins to locate the new ballpark further south into Miami. To draw more fans, the ballpark needs to be centrally located so it can easily draw from all directions. Fans wants quick easy access to a ballpark and they want to be able to quickly get home after the game.
My thoughts exacly, Jimmy James.
Who is that on your avatar tonight, Jim?
This team is just one player short from tearing it up…that’s the left field power hitter!
Great dig on Cody Ross by Welch.
“The first 30,000 Latin Kings at the ballgame tomorrow night will receive a free Marlins umbrella.”
My avatar is Chico Esquela.
“Beisball been berry berry good to me”
“The first 30,000 Latin Kings at the ballgame tomorrow night will receive a free Marlins umbrella.”
Are they required to have their shirts unbuttoned?
104 pitches for EV.
I think Volquez can call it a night.
Yes. And they’re required to flash their gang sign and/or tattoos to the ticket taker at the turnstyle. We don’t want any Nazi Lowriders to sneek in there and get an ubrella.
EKy – lol
Wow, EV is hitting for himself.
Why is Dusty sending Volquez back out there? :emotion:
Do you realize that this is the first time in three starts that Volquez has given up more than one hit? He’s given up 2 so far.
Just perusing the thread after another awful golf league performance.
re: BJ Ryan – trading him stinks, but we did get Guzman, who pitched awesome in a pennant race. I do that deal 10 times again.
Did Dusty not watch the last inning?
Get EV out of there. I thought he was exhausted after that last inning. Not sure there’s any more gas in the tank.
Pull Volquez and put Massett in. He only pitched to 1 batter last night so he can eat these last 2 innings himself!
Dusty must be attempting to thwart the chances of the Reds continued success by sending Volquez out there.
I mentioned earlier that this team is one player away from tearing things up…let me rephrase that, it is a player and one less manager away
:poke:
completely asinine
leadoff single. Get him out Dusty!
Yep, Dusty sucks
Dusty ain’t no frontrunner… Sorry, it has been a while!
masset warming up.
Yessiree three. Drink!
Good call, Chris.
Double play! Dusty is brilliant!
Okay I’ll gladly eat my words Dusty…I’m not worthy
In 2005, they scored 820 runs, and allowed 889.
Alright, Dusty’s a genius.
If the Reds continue to throw a multitude of shutouts as they have been, do they end up with the trio of Harang, Volquez, and Cueto all going to the All-Star Game?
Here comes Coco.
Good stuff, Chris. I had totally misremembered Ben Weber up until that post.
Like we were saying earlier, if that team you are talking about had today’s pitching staff, they’d be TOUGH.
Y-City: I like the sound of that.
If the shutout holds, the Reds have 6 this season. Last year, they had…. 6!
Votto 2-2 and on base 5 times! I like Votto!
There’s no way that Joey Votto is just a second year player.
Who’s the Votto kid?
The Votto-matic machine keeps rolling!
Votto-Matic!!!
Team Phillips needs to meet his DP quota.
for the record, i mentioned the grooved pitch to brandon because of those two swings.
he’s just uppercut yanking everything. last time he got the pitch to do that on. if he used a different swing for different pitches, fine.
but he doesn’t.
BP is terrible! :worried:
Hit something studly, Nix.
I want Nix beside of me when I get into a bar fight.
Nix with a double.
“I’m no frontrunner”
Nix, The Front Runner!!
Very studly double!!
whose got more talent than laynce nix?
I think they can stop hitting and save those runs…could have used some last night.
BTW how do I attache a file from my computer to here?
Nix is great.
woof. rosie seems to have fallen off a cliff.
A solid 1-5 night for C-Dick.
Nix, meanwhile, is hitting .344.
mhopp, I don’t think you can add files to this site. You may need to upload it somewhere else and link to it.
Don’t allow any more than 6 runs, Nick Masset.
Great job by Volquez
Thanks Chris Wilson….yes Jimmy James, why is Nix on the bench again?
I’m tickled pink about Volquez. So glad he’s looking good again.
Well, because who has more talent than C-Dick?
ONE MORE OUT and 6 SHUTOUTS!!!
Volkkie was aces tonight, great to see it from the All-Star.
Good question, jason. I don’t know the answer, mostly because I’m a front-runner.
Masset blows them away!!! Great outing, makes them look silly.
And this one belongs to the Reds!
WOW their 6th shutout!!
Yeah, front runners dont usually know the answers to the truly important questions in life, Jimmy James.
Where’s the mic? I could hear Hernandez sliding to block the pitch.
Reds win!!! Played like front-runners tonight!!!
Now…how about a winning homestand???????
Goodnight Boys.
The Reds on a roll!!
I’ll e-mail Mark Mann tomorrow and tell him to ask Big Bob for some more of his lettuce. I’ll let y’all know how that goes.
Yes, a winning homestand would be beyond great to see. I like our chances of getting the Cards at least 2 of 3, with Harang, Volkkie and Cueto on the bump.
Smiling scoreboard!
Smiling Scoreboard Baseball. Drink!!!
Yeah, let us know how that works out, World.
that’s the 6th Reds shutout of the season
that leads the major leagues by 2
The Reds only had 6 shutouts last year and only 47 shutouts in the previous 7 years
Man, B.P has a great smile…he must drink milk.
LOL, jason.
Wow, that was a fun game.
Jim Day just said the Reds played small ball tonight.
It really was, Chad. Everything clicked for us tonight, and B.P came through. Did you happen to tally how many times “I aint no front-runner” was used in the thread tonight?
Yeah, and his teeth are capped.
I haven’t tallied up the front rubber comments. I will have to do that.
GG is rocking the Dwight Schrute look tonight, nice. I wonder if he lives on a beet farm?
