Reason #429 to love Joey Votto

I really like this kid:

Joey Votto didn’t take the day off that Dusty Baker offered. Votto reported back to Reds this morning and planned to work out. His Canadian team was eliminated from the WBC Monday.

“Tomorrow is an off day. I didn’t want to take three days in a row off,” Votto said.

  • My favorite Red!

If he sticks around long enough, he could replace Chris Sabo as my all-time favorite.

I can see him walking into the dugout every day at 8:00 AM looking out approvingly at the dew covered field and proclaiming, “Looks like a good day to hit.”

I hope he is around for a while. He seems to naturally be growing into a leadership role on this team. He’s the kind of guy I’d want leading my team: Keeps his head down, works hard, isn’t self-glorifying. I guess that’s reason number 430

  • Ever since I watched him in Double A with Chattanooga a few years back, I knew that if he ever made it to Cincy he would be my favorite Red.
