I am rooting for the kid. He went from the NEXT BIG THING!! to question mark, to head case, to whipping boy so fast it just has to suck for him. And all this at an age when most of us still have no clue what we even want to do with our lives.

Of course it’s good to see Homer have some success, but we’re still in no closer to figuring out if he can be the 5th starter. He hasn’t been stretched out yet, having to face a linup of all major leaguers more than once thru the batting order. The last two weeks of ST are waaay more important than the first two.

Of course it doesn’t mean much….but would you rather he struggled? Good news is good news. And let’s not forget at 22, he’s the youngest pitcher in Reds camp and the 4th youngest player overall.

I have been saying it all offseason – Homer Bailey is going to be good this year as long as he stays healthy with his legs. They are the key to his success.

“Everybody is relaxed. It just seems like the vibe in camp that I get. There are a lot of young guys in camp. Guys in their first year coming to a Major League camp don’t seem like they’re stepping on eggshells with veterans around. But know the respect they have to give to guys that have been there before them. You see a lot of mature guys in the clubhouse despite as a whole being pretty young.”

Will one big bat be enough to make this team competitive? The fundamental flaw of this team is OBP. I do not think that can be remedied by acquiring a “big bat.”

Homer Bailey seems to be the heir apparent to Adam Dunn as the whipping boy of the Cincinnati Reds.

Quite frankly, it might be time to deal him while his stock is relatively high… From what I remember he has fundamental flaws in his game (such as being easily run upon due to a very long stride). I know he is VERY young, but at some point an organization has to decide if a guy is in their long term plans or whether they are planning to deal him when they can get something of value in return.
