Reds win ugly…over the Yanks

The Reds won an ugly one this afternoon over the Yankees. Chris Dickerson hit two homers, Craig Tatum hit a grand slam, and Joey Votto also had a homer.

The ugly part was the bullpen’s performance:

David Weathers gave up two earned runs and three hits in one inning, including two homers in the fourth. Arthur Rhodes gave up three earned runs and five hits over his one inning. Francisco Cordero allowed three earned runs and four hits in one inning with two strikeouts.

Ugh.

At least they can score runs. I’m more worried about the offense than the bullpen.

And at least Jonny Gomes didn’t try to kill someone on the Yankees this time.

i’m not to worried what veteran pitchers whose spots on the rosters are secure do in a meaningless game with the wind blowing out. really.

they look like that at the end of march, i’ll be a little more worried.

they look like that when the games start counting, then i’ll be screaming for guys to get the ol’ dfa.

I trust the veterans are shaking off rust. I didn’t realize one could get a blown save in the 4th inning but I guess Weathers did just that.

Weathers will find new ways to blow saves any way he can.

As a fan of both clubs, I am neither encouraged nor discouraged by this outcome.

They call it Spring “Training” for a reason…

  • It wouldn’t have bothered anyone if Gomes HAD tried to kill a Yankee today.

  • By the way, Yonder Alonso got his first start and went 1-2 with a double. Not bad.

The wind was blowing 20+ mph out to center

Everyone knew the pitchers would suffer today,
    I read nothing into this.
It is like a game at wrigley on a windy day, homers galore.

  • No one reads anything into it…but it’s interesting nonetheless.

  • If not for the DP balls, Harang’s day could have been much worse.

  • I really hope Dickerson wins the starting LF job.

  • It’s March 1 – spring training is for pitchers.

I’m not concerned about the spring training numbers. Players are working out their kinks. Does anyone think that Taveras is going to bat .100 during the reg – okay bad example.
