John Fay is reporting:
–Heard from a reliable source today that the Giants are interested in the Edwin Encarnacion. I think Encarnacion is the most likely Red to be traded for two reasons: He’s got high-value and the Reds are deep in the minors at third base.
No mention on what they might be offering.

and who would play 3B for the Reds?
Don’t worry, Dusty is making some calls
yeah
if we;re lucky they will call brandon larson
he would be a steal for only a few million
EE for Jonathan Sanchez? It would likely be pitching in return.
i can only wish for sanchez
unlikely though
cause EE isnt that valuable
EE is that valuable to a team that badly needs offense, a 3b, and has some excess pitching. The Reds and Giants match up pretty well and if Uncle Walt and Sabean wanted to expand the deal to include Burriss or Lewis, that could fast track the Reds to where 2009 wild-card contention might not be out of the question.
3b can filled easier than getting that lefthanded pitcher they desperately need, that ss of the future, or even that lead-off hitting OF.
Trading as asset (EE) for an asset of greater need makes some sense.
we wont get much cause we’re the reds
we always get the short end of a deal
Trading as asset (EE) for an asset of greater need makes some sense.
That’s the key criteria of any deal.
With Renteria locked up for 2 years Burriss doesn’t have a spot to play, unless the Giants move him to second. The Reds need a shortstop, wj has said he wants a 0-3 guy if he acquires a ss…..hmmm possible blockbust with the Giants? If his Cardinal tenure is any indication Jocketty will improve the Reds up the middle. That means another catcher and a shortstop. The Reds have too many holes to fill. Somewhere the club will just have to make do with a fill in type player. I’d rather that spot be 3rd base than shortstop.
Don’t forget Molina. He may be the type of catcher that Jocketty has in mind.
