Brandon Phillips Wins NL Gold Glove
We already told you about this defensive award. Now Brandon Phillips has won the National League Gold Glove for 2B:
“To tell you the truth, when I didn’t win it last year, it really hurt me a little bit,” Phillips said. “Then after that, I was like, ‘If I win one, I win one. If I don’t, it wouldn’t really bother me.’ But it’s different when you win one now. Now it feels great to finally get recognized and win the award. I think a lot of people are starting to recognize what type of player that I am. I play defense first before anything. Defense wins games. It’s just a beautiful thing to finally win this award. I hope there are many more to come.”
Kudos, BP!

BP had a reputation of being tough to coach in the Expos and Indian systems. With him acknowledging Craig Shipley in Fay’s article his prima donna rap seems a bit undeserved.

Incredible the best defensive team had no GG (Astros) but awesome the Reds got one this year.
Congratulations BP. Glad to see you got what you’ve deserved for 2 years.
