Willy Taveras is not the answer.

He's super fast, sure, but that is SO much less important than being able to get on base and being able to hit the ball.

The guy just played a full season with Coors Field as his home park and he slugged .296!!

No thanks!!

I'd rather hand CF to Drew Stubbs right now than give it to Willy.

Taveres might be the new Patterson for Dusty. I like him and I value the stolen base more than most I suppose, but we need some power in the outfield....but he sure is fast....

If David Delluci is the Indians DH, then Keppinger is our SS of the future.

Also, when looking at Griffey's stats, you have to factor in some decline due to aging, plus an even bigger decline due to a shift to the better league.

He's finished as a useful player.

Josh, I was thinking the same thing. The KC blogs were concerned that the trade for Jacobs could mean the end for Butler. I am notsure Bailey would do it, but it certainly is worth exploring, even with the 1B in our system.

With the recent KC acquisition of Mike Jacobs (Ha ha) why don't the Reds try to move Votto over to left field, keep EdE at 3rd and try to pry Billy Butler away to play first bag?

He's not great defensively but he's only 22 and was projected as a stud. Maybe a Bailey for Butler swap would make sense. The Royals need good young pitching talent, they have too many 1B in their pipeline and Butler is a RH who projects to 20+ HR power.

Anyone have any thoughts about this?

The big question with Junior is whether his ego will allow him to sign for a much lower salary.

I don't want Taveras and his anemic OBP leading off. But since Crusty is infatuated with speed, it wouldn't surprise me.

Speaking of Reds' winter meetings, word is that the Rockies are looking to deal Willy Tavares who could be an intriguing buy low candidate for the Reds who are in need of an everyday centerfielder.

Tavares is an average to below average defender, even given his speed, and has shown decent offensive capabiliities.

The injuries have slowed his progression. I guess my question is if the guy is closer to his 2006 numbers or 2008 numbers.

as always, I am picky with generalized comments without the facts.

I read this quote
The only possible landing pad I see for him is as a gate attraction as the DH in Seattle, because at least there he constitutes an actual upgrade in performance. If they’re not interested, I think it’s entirely possible that he retires.

and decided to look to see if this was true.

Jr's OPS+ last year was 101

4 AL teams had OPS+ at the DH position worse.
TB, Cleveland, Detroit, and Seattle

Jr would be an improvement over
Floyd and Gomes in TB
Dellucci in Cleveland
Sheffield in Detroit
and Vidro in Seattle

and probably Stairs or whoever is in Toronto and and the guys who are DH in LAA

Jr had a terrible season but not THAT terrible
