Game Thread: Johnny Cueto Edition

Johnny Cueto, who really had a pretty good rookie season for the Reds, will make his final start of 2008 tonight. He’ll face Roy Oswalt and the Astros, and that’s not a good thing for Cueto. Oswalt is simply a Reds killer. It’d be nice to see Cueto outpitch Oswalt to pick up another series win.

Discuss it here.

Given his strong performance for his first season, and with how Volquez has pitched and the addition of Ownings, I really think the Reds have 5 good starting pitchers going into next season. Add that to a pretty decent bullpen and for once, pitching is not the priority for the offseason.

I just want to know why Owings hasn’t been in the line up as at least a relief pitcher given his .300+ BA? Not to mention he had two that’s right TWO game winning RBI’s in pinch hit situations. You have to FIND a way to get someone like that in the line up.

  • Owings the pitcher has been shut down for the year. I would like to see him get some more at bats though.

None of that matters because our old buddies Patterson and Bako are back in the lineup tonight so we don’t stand a chance anyway

Patterson hits a homer. Please tell me Gamecast is trying to pull some cruel joke.

  • Baker throws out a screw you to us by batting Patterson second. Defiant to the end.

Well he just hit a HR and his avg is almost at .210 so he’s on a hot streak and may top the .215 mark.

My thoughts exactly Kurt, defiant to the end to say he is right and everyone else is wrong. What an arrogant prick.

Richar, why not Castillo? Richar can’t hit…not that Castillo appears great

Dunn goes 1 for 2 today with his 39th HR, a BB, RBI, and 2 runs scored as Arizona gets blown out and I think eliminated from the playoffs.

Just notice Bruce’s numbers so far in September.
    .284 avg
    .385 obp
    .657 slg

    wow!!

that is even every so slightly better than Votto this month.

    Top Reds OPS for September
    1.041 Bruce
    1.039 Votto
    .991 A Phillips
    .919 Dickerson
    .853 Hairston

  • In good news, Cueto only threw 75 pitches.

The day we can beat Houston like a drum is the day this team is good.

    Obviously that is not today.

Majewski remaining in the Reds organization next year would be as tragic as re-signing Patterson.

  • NOTHING would be as bad than signing Patterson. Well, wxcept for signing Patterson and Bako.

wow this team sucks. I predicted a 74-88 season in July and all they have to do is lose the last 3 games. We’re sure to see Patterson at the top of the line up until the last day as Dusty is determined to have as many fans hate him so he can show them that HE is in control and not them. Honestly I think the man is a sociopath (putting Patterson at #2 in the line up). I would never criticize any player for not showing up while injured if Dumpy Baker is managing. What a buffoon. Valentin gets another pinch hit RBI in a clutch situation…thanks for not using him at all this season Dumpy when needing a lefty to bat…instead you chose to give your son-in-law/boyfriend the chance to bat. Thanks Dumpy
