Reds shatter attendance mark!

The Reds ended the home season in style today, knocking off the Marlins in an exciting comeback. The Reds finished up with a record of 43-38 at Great American Ballpark. Even better, they absolutely crushed 2007’s attendance mark:

Monday’s announced attendance of 13,565 boosted the Reds’ final attendance to 2,058,632, an improvement of 39 over last year’s total.

Awesome! :)

Can we get a recount? (It was against Florida ya know…)

That struck me as amusing when I saw that they had beaten the number by 39.

And that’s hilarious, CeeKeR. Yeah, we need a recount!

How about those Marlins. Four infielders with 25 or more home runs each. Quite a record.

If Cantu hits one more, it will be 4 infielders with 30. Wowowow.

But, we’re off topic. I wonder if those extra 39 people came to see the “chase for 600.” Waiting until the deadline to trade Griffey, so they could cash in on his 600th really paid off!

That’s 124 dingers in that infield. Of course I’m sure that’d be a more impressive infield if they didn’t have so many errors.

wait, Florida’s defense on the whole is above average and light years better than the Reds.

Looking at their main starters in the infield.

Jacobs is close to average fielding 1B
Uggla is a very good fielding 2B
Cantu is close to average fielding 3B (better than EE)
    Ramirez close toaverage fielding SS

Here for example is a fun comparison
Fielding Runs Above Average. I’ve included the Red starter, the Florida starter and the player I think is best defensively in baseball this season at the position.

    FRAA
    1B
14 Pujols (there shouldn’t’ be an MVP discussion he IS THE MVP BY FAR)
    13 Votto
    -3 Jacobs

    2B
    15 Phillips
    10 Uggla
    7 Ellis

    SS
    5 Izturis (Stl)
    -4 Ramirez
    -8 Keppinger

    3B
    11 Hannahan (Oak)
    -3 Cantu
    -16 EE

Florida’s infield defense might just be average but they don’t suck and they are one of the most productive infields in baseball. I’ll take average defense with great hitting.

Oh and don’t let the HRs fool you Florida is not the top run producing infield.

    Top hitting infields
    OPS+ for infields
    120 Chicago Cubs
    119 Atlanta
    113 Florida
    112 Boston
    109 Mets

98 REDS (near the bottom in the NL)
