Who’s record has been embellished by a hot streak with kids with no pressure on their backs? Um, actually one player who has been playing significantly better in late August and September is Corey Patterson...I didn't realize he was a kid with no pressure on his back? The bottom line is that there is a manager that plays personal favorites and not to win at all costs.

Who’s dumb enough to think the manager is the difference between contending with this year’s roster and injuries, and being mired in 5th place, 21.5 games out of first?

I would have settled for competitive.

That's all nice and obvious, Doug. But who were the substitutes? The people guaranteed to do better? Did the GM From heaven do anything to fix the roster problems? Nooooo.

So if you don't have Bako catching, who?

If you don't have Patterson on the roster, who?

Not any options were tossed out there. Options, that is, that were guaranteed to deliver results.

And for those who say Bruce should have been up to start the season, he didn't earn it. Two different GMs thought he should get 200 ABs in AAA. Bruce being with the big league club the first six weeks didn't doom their season.

Votto, EE and Dunn were tried in the 4-hole. How'd that work out? Hairston? hahahaha.

Nice one. Guy stays healthy for 8 minutes and a multi-year contract is undoubtedly warranted.

Oh, and I don't think anyone is saying the Reds would compete with this roster with a different manager. That said, a lot of people are saying the Reds would be better with a different manager because odds are Corey Patterson wouldn't have made the team and Paul Bako wouldn't have started nearly as often as he has while we may have seen a better optimized lineup as a result of those two not being in it.

Mr Redlegs, I will see what I can do to answer your questions:

Who’s been the cleanup batter?
Brandon Phillips, also known as the 4th or 5th best option to hit cleanup behind Votto, Encarnacion, Dunn and maybe Hairston.
Who’s been the shortstop?
Jeff Keppinger sadly. Thats not Dusty's fault in the slightest.
Who’s been the leadoff?
Corey Patterson for the most part, also known as the worst option on the team. That is Dusty's fault, both that he is even on the team and that he was hitting leadoff as the worst option available.
Who’s been the catcher?
Paul Bako. That is only kind of Dusty's fault. Bako sucks a whole lot, but Ross was hurt. However when Ross came back, Bako continued to suck a whole lot and still start. Now Bako is still starting, Ross is gone and the guy who hit .324 in Louisville has been riding the bench most of September for a guy with a 56 OPS+. That is Bakers fault.
Who’s been the No. 5 starter?
A whole slew of terrible pitchers. Not Bakers fault at all.
Who comprises the bench?
Depends on the day.... but usually it consists of a better option to start for Corey Patterson and Paul Bako. We have a weak bench. Baker makes it stronger by starting players not as good as some guys on the bench.

A little Jay Bruce tidbit.... here are the last 10 guys to his 21 HR or more at age 21 or younger:

Jay Bruce - 2008
Miguel Cabrera - 2004
Albert Pujols - 2001
Andruw Jones - 1998
Alex Rodriguez -1996
Ken Griffey JR - 1990, 1991
Juan Gonzalez - 1991
Ruben Sierra - 1987
Daryl Strawberry - 1983
Cal Ripken Jr - 1982

All of them had 545 at bats or more except for Daryl Strawberry who had 420 that year. Jay currently has 388 at bats. Thats some pretty good company to be in.

Should I take MLB08 The Show back? I'm using PS2 (I know I'm behind the times) and this was more expensive so I figured it to be a better game.

Phil-John Adkins has been with AAA all year and had 30 saves. He started off really good this year but had some bad outings in the second half that raised his ERA. I followed the Bats and Lookouts at AA all year and the Reds fans really do have much to be excited about in the coming years...I'm just concerned that the manager is not the right one for the job. I think the Reds have some serious depth now.

Yea in MLB 2K8, Bruce is good but a little weak(they made him slower than Edwin!) but his potential is super high. I just started my second season with my version of the Reds(traded a lot of players) and he's already in the 90s.

Also, I know that Bruce is in MLB 2k8 under the name "James Bales" and have heard that after a season or two automatically improves to be one of hte best players in the game (a ceiling of 98 or something)
