Reds and Cubs play today in the rubber match in Cincinnati. Aaron Harang is on the mound, and that always makes me feel a bit better, no matter how well or poorly he has been pitching.
Perhaps more importantly, are you ready for some football? Use this thread to discuss todays Reds game, and/or the football games.
Of course, the start of the Bengals season reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw in Atlanta in the mid-80s. I will paraphrase to make it relevant for our audience: “Go Bengals! And take the Reds with you!”
Enjoy!
Living about 20 minutes outside of Baltimore, they instead decide to show the Jets-Dolphins game because it’s BRETT FAVRE WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT WITH HIM!?!?! WILL HE RETIRE AT HALFTIME!?!?!?!? etc etc which is really ridiculous.
So I had to use gamecast for both games.
Hoping Harang can pitch a gem today
At the game today. Thanks to my wife “forgetting” to bring my kid’s Reds hat, our compromise has been abandoned and the boy is in full Cub regalia.
Question: early lineup had Dickerson leading off; late change to Corey P in CF and Jolbert leading off. Any reason, besides the usual insanity?
Reds win the 1st inning: Harang – 7 pitches, Marshall – 11 pitches
Chris, on the Dickerson scratch – He has a sore ankle according the Cincinnati.com

Sneak him out in a couple innings and buy him a Brewers hat.
Did Soto ever do anything in the minor leagues?
Soto finally put it together at Iowa last year. The sudden slugging prowess the past two years does raise some eyebrows though.
Hope for an error on Cubs with Patterson at the plate and bases loaded…only one Mendoza twin tonight
Crappy with an opportunity for a contract extension here.
Whew!
#6…exactly what I’m saying wonder when he’s urinated in a cup?
Crappy has been doing well knocking in runs…all while getting an out or getting on by error. And his average is over .200!!!!!!!!!!
Perfect situation for Crappy. He is a guaranteed fly out.
Harang looking strong…no-hitter through 3 and only 34 pitches thrown!
Guys, knock off the PED speculation, please. We went over this the other night. Chad will delete all these comments when he sees them.
If I’m the Cubs, Hanigan never sees a strike.
That’s what happens when Corey is on deck – you have to tag up and try to score on popups to shallow LF.
And he gets a single next inning that would have scored the run!?!?!?
PED speculation?
Harang looking like his old self!!
Consecutive HBP’s? Doesn’t bother me too much since he’s plunking Cubs.
Well, there went the game…no way they’ll score 3 runs to come back. Guess it’s time to go do something else.
From Gameday: “Corey Patterson flies out softly to left fielder Alfonso Soriano.” Do you think Gameday has two options for CP…flies out softly or strikes out swinging? Seems like the only two thing he does.
Dan, it actually has three. The other option is ‘grounds out weakly to second base’.
Nice win, love beating the Cubs, all those Cub fans in Cincy had to watch them lose the series. I was happy to see Wood come in for the 9th, he’s only pitched once previously this month, and pitched badly.
I almost feinted when Dusty pinch hit for CP. At that point I knew we had a good chance to win.
Reds stink. Bengals stink!
When does the NBA start? I can’t believe I want it to be NBA season already!
Chris W,
I can’t believe you care about the NBA before June….
Wow, I can’t believe it…and imagine the result if Dusty would not have pinch hit for his lover? I wonder if Dusty is starting to catch on?
Considering he hasn’t been afraid to pinch hit for Patterson lately, I’d say he’s obviously “caught on.”
I wish I had known this was on WGN, I got wrapped up in that devils foosball I didn’t get to see the faces of those Cubs fans when they realized they just lost a series against the Reds. Nice to see the Reds keep the downward spiral up for the Cubbies. If only the Brewers would hold up their end of the deal.
Phill,
if you are in the Cincinnati area, you would not have been able to watch it on WGN…. it was blacked out.
PED speculation?

and FSOH wasn’t going to show it because it knew it couldn’t compete with the NFL games though if everyone had known how bad the Bengals were going to perform…
A lot can change in a season. In April, I never thought I’d be seeing a picture like this on the mlb.com frontpage.
That’s interesting, Doug. WGN was clear in Columbus.
Me – I left the game after 7 innings, since I was about to die of heat stroke and my wife realized she left the car keys on the bumper of our car in the parking garage. Yeah.
At least they were still there. My faith in Reds fans is intact.
Wow!!! How many places in America could you do that and still find the keys where they were left?
At least they were still there. My faith in Reds fans is intact.
Or should we give credit to Cubs fans since they were greater in number?
Bats are eliminated. Let the call-ups begin.
Hey, I live in Greenville, NC and the East Carolina Pirates beat Va Tech last week in Charlotte and stomped WVU Mountaineers this week in Greenville!! Anything can happen…there is hope for the Reds too. The big change started when Skip Holtz started coaching (Lou Holtz). Maybe with some more talent and some management changes the Reds can be good soon.
East Carolina – alma mater of the Y-City’s Kevin Martin!
