The Reds lose to the hapless Pirates again yesterday, and Fay blamed it on Wilkin Castillo. Castillo, of course, is this utility catcher the Reds got (in addition to two sore-armed pitchers) for the greatest human being ever to walk the earth, Adam “Bill Brasky” Dunn.

And now the Reds have been officially eliminated from the playoff race. I guess we can give up hope for 2008 now.

    1. By the way, I heard that Adam Dunn made the short list of vice presidential candidates for BOTH Obama and McCain.

    2. Losing two to the Pirates (even though they are totally meaningless) does not make me feel better about my fear they are passing us (or we are stalling out behind them).

    3. No, the Reds have been eliminated from the NL Central title race.

They can still win the wild card if they go 20-3, Milwaukee goes 0-23, Philly goes 4-18, St. Louis goes 5-17, Houston goes 6-16, Florida goes 9-13, LA goes 10-12, and Colorado goes 14-8.

All that could happen. We just have to worry about the Giants going on a hot streak.

    4. I’m very confused on how Wilkin killed a rally. He had the first hit of the inning. Nobody else got a hit. Yea he missed the sign but a rally he did not kill.

    5. If Baker is still around in seven months it’ll be more of the same in 09.

actually it will very likely be WORSE. Does anyone think the Reds are going to spend $$$ to replace Dunn’s offense?? Not only that, I don’t think that will be a very easy task. How do you do it? Sign Manny? Big hitting SS AND C?

nope, we are looking at the starters right now. Hell replace Castillo with Patterson and that is next years lineup. OK maybe a different SS

    7. hope for 2008? any hope for winning was a false one.

my only hope this year was for the youth. And that turned out OK. Not great but OK

Votto - good season, couldn’t ask for much more from a rookie, one of the top 5 NL rookies this season. 112 OPS+ from a 24 year old rookie? I’ll take it.

Phillips - producing less this season but playing better defense. I expected more from a 27 year old

EE - nice improved hitting but he seems worse on defense. Still only 25. From a 101 OPS+ to 110 OPS+ Good.

Cueto - 4.65 ERA (97 ERA+) with great peripherals for a 22(!!) year old rookie. Excellent.

Volquez - better than I could dream.

Dunn - was having a very good season but I expected more considering his age/experience. No longer a Red

Bruce - super young rookie. Struggling but nothing to worry about.

Bailey - 2nd year in a row his prospect status will drop. His entire delivery is a mess, he’s lost velocity and hasn’t got his control issues under control. Did pretty bad at AAA and is hurt.

I was hoping for the young guys and I’d say overall it was a successful season for them.
