I’m pretty sure there is a game tonight. I haven’t checked the schedule, and I don’t know who the Reds are playing, but they usually play on a Tuesday, so here is a game thread.
Also, Cory Patterson will probably be playing, so enjoy the game, Reds fans!

No Patterson or Bako. I’m sure the Reds will provide plenty to complain about before the nights over though.
This is their best lineup. Two bucks the Reds win tonight. Takers?
They don’t have Cordero for tonight either. So if they do win, hopefully it’s a blowout or a complete game. I’d love for both.
The only and I mean ONLY reason why there is no Crappy Outterson or Paul Quako is because there is a LHP on the mound for the opposing team…should they face a RHP, they’ll be back in the line up. Dusty simply refuses to change his ways.
I get a warm and fuzzy feeling reading the game thread leadin. Somehow I get the feeling your heart isn’t in it anymore Chad.
Does anyone know what’s up w/Cordero?
Glenn, his wife is having a baby.
Whatever gives you that idea, Mark?
I love the Corey Patterson For Assignment Blog!!!
Wow, Arroyo sure is pitching well. Why can’t he do this in the first half of the season?
Come on Phillips!!! HR HR!! single! anything but an out!
1 run after two lead off hits…Jacoby has to go too!
I WILL say this: I’m such a huge baseball, in general, and such a huge Reds fan that I WILL follow this team to the end (as I know Chad will, too, regardless of his masked disinterest!)
It’s in our blood. There aren’t too many folks that follow this blog that aren’t so obsessed that they won’t get up and AT LEAST examine the box score the next day.
If I know nothing about real Reds fans, I know THAT much.
So, that said, regardless of the fact that I’m a football fan, too, there’s simply NO WAY I won’t keep tabs on this team the rest of the way – especially with what I hope to be the true youth movement that we’ve been hearing about.
I can’t remember a time when I’ve been this interested in what’s going to happen in September with a non-contending Reds team.
Uh. Go Ben-Gals.
I also got a kick out of the Patterson for Assignment blog…
There’s been times (albeit brief) that I feel bad for Patterson…but then I remember roughly 3 million reasons why I shouldn’t.
Of course, the jokes on us. We aren’t paid squat and here we still sit discussing the Reds while they’ve given up on the season (and presumably next season as well).
Can we clone Joey Votto?
Can we please get Bruce a night off? I don’t know if he’s had one since Griffey left. He’s lookin’ U-G-L-Y. I know the backup options are just as ugly but maybe it’d help him get set straight.
Arroyo is deserving a win here, someones gotta help him out.
Paul Bako’s replacement did help out, too bad he’ll be on the bench tomorrow since Dusty is at the helm!!
His batterymate helps him out.
Get used to this, because 2-1 wins where the Reds are out-hit, out-baserunnered, and out-K’d (pitchingwise) are the only kind of win we’re likely to see the rest of the way.
Weathers is closing tonight.
Wonder who will be hitting coach next year because you know it isn’t going to be Jacoby? No other coach may go Jacoby has a bulls eye on himself. Please don’t tell me Eric Davis.
Wow! A complete game! The rarest of events.
No way, Jim, Arroyo´s closing!
Wow first complete game for the Reds! GREAT job by Bronson.
Jim, no clue about coaches getting the axe but I got a feeling Dick Pole is safe. Even though he was hired when Narron was here, he is a Dusty guy. He bench coached for him in Chicago.
Arroyo was really on his game tonight! Against the Astros to top it off, the rarest of events indeed! 1st CG of the year fro Reds!
Nice going, Arroyo. With the current state of the bullpen, a complete game was a good idea.
Say what you want about the Reds lineup, at the end of the day they’ll have their 2 runs and 5 hits.
Arroyo sure is a different guy than the one we saw in Toronto.
hahahaha
(about 24)
Phill, I agree about Pole. At best, he would lose the pitching coach job and become the bench coach but I think Dusty is happy with Speier.
Brandon Webb getting destroyed by Padres 5-0 so I hope the final is 5-4 with Dunn hitting a few HR’s and Webb stay at 19 wins so Volquez can catch up!
Fogg vs. Oswalt tomorrow…oh now that’s a fair match up!
All this nonsense aside, who is the 5th starter next year?
We can faithfully rely on Harang (if healthy), Volquez, Cueto, Arroyo, and WHO?
Management needs to find SOMEONE who can at least fit the #3 and #5 bill because there’s absolutely NO way we can depend on this current rotation.
They MUST sign a reliable starter in the #1-3 mold because there’s simply NO way the bullpen (who has truly done a lights out job overall considering the situation) can continue to perform as is.
I mean, my lord, ONE complete game ALL YEAR. The bullpen has done a remarkable job considering what they’ve been put through.
Patently ridiculous.
I think Steve they will end up using Micah Owings in that 5th starter spot unless Bailey comes out of no where.
Lots of options — Owings, Bailey, Thompson, Belisle, Maloney, Pettyjohn… who am I forgetting?
Keep in mind that no team EVER just picks 5 starters and that’s it for the year. Anywhere from 7-10 guys will probably start a game next year for the Reds.
Me, I’ll take Owings or Thompson as the main guy (if Thompson’s healthy – what’s up with him now?)
Though that is the goal, it is rare that a team can go with only 5 starters all year. Wouldn’t it be awesome to see the right 5 guys start the year, stay healthy all year and make 30+ starts each for the Reds next year?
There are a couple of teams I recall having done this successfully in recent years. (anyone know of others?)
The 2003 Mariners gave all 162 starts to 5 pitchers – Moyer, Garcia, Meche, Franklin, and Piniero.
The 2005 Cardinals gave 160 starts to 5 starters – Carpenter, Mulder, Suppan, Morris, and Marquis. The 2000 Cardinals only used 6 pitchers. 155 starts went to Kile, Ankiel, Hentgen, Benes, and Stephenson.
