Game Thread: Astros at Reds — 2008.08.09

Dusty Baker says he likes what he’s seeing in Bronson Arroyo. Let’s hope we all like what we see tonight, as Arroyo faces former Red Brian Moehler, who is about a thousand times better now than he was when he played with Cincinnati. Always seems to work out like that.

Discuss the game here.

Yet another quality AB by Corey Patterson NOT!!!

Six pitch inning by a pitcher who didn’t even hit 90 mph.

Was hoping to see Rosales at 1st with Votto away on bereavement, but maybe it’s better to give him a little time to get used to the uniform, and pinch-hit him later in the game.

Looks like Crusty sees the same thing in Arroyo as he does Patterson…a whole lot of nothing. As soon as I read that I knew we were in trouble. Why do these writers continue to act like Dusty knows something? Is he kissing their a$$ too?

I think it is because of lot of these writers are not real bright in terms of baseball so they are intimidated.

It’s kind of amazing how often it seems the Reds hit into doubleplays, given that they hardly ever have any runners on.

And why is Valentin not batting where Patterson is and vice-versa?

“Dusty Baker says he likes what he’s seeing in Bronson Arroyo.”
I wonder if Dusty was looking at pictures of Arroyo with is dreadlocks when he made that statement?

Not PHing for Patterson in the 8th is why Dusty Baker will never manage again once he is fired by the Reds next season.

There is also no excuse for Patterson being on this roster. I understand that the Reds would not be fond of eating what’s left of his $3.5 million contract and I understand that Dickerson probably is not MLB-ready but I bet Dickerson could be more of a presence at the plate than Patterson.

Thank You Jim, something is wrong with him. I think he is deeply in love with Crappy P. and should seek professional help.

There is also no excuse for Paul Bako getting the number of AB’s he has got this season. I know he is a good handling of pitchers but Ross had that reputation as well. There are only a couple of catchers with any kind of playing time that are hitting worse than Bako and they play for clubs whose offense can hide them.

I am sure I speak for everyone when I say I hope all works out well for Joey Votto and those affected by whatever the terms of his bereavement may be.

  • Can it get any worse, guys and gals?

  • Well, that’s five losses in a row. Same old story around here.

I believe there are some hard workers on this team but the morale must be terrible when your manager does things like he does with Valentin, Bako, Ross and of course. Crappy Outterson. You will never win with those poor decisions and that is why this team has a losing attitude.

I want to see another meeting by the players without Dusty included. Have you ever met someone who can not admit when they are wrong? I think that is Dusty Baker, even though it’s obvious to everyone else they just won’t admit it even to themselves.

When your starting line-up includes Patterson, Bako, and Valentin, and your bench includes Phillips, Cabrerra, and Rosales what can a fan expect?

If they get healthy they should play Hairston, Keppinger, Bruce, Dunn, Votto, Phillips, Encarnacion, and Ross every game for the rest of the season. Maybe they would at least be somewhat enjoyable to watch.

I remember the Ohio University faculty giving a vote of no confidence in the university president a couple of years ago. Perhaps the players should have that team meeting and have a vote of no confidence in Dusty Baker.

Dusty would find a way to put his love machine Crappy P in the line up no matter what.

They sure are showing a vote of no confidence judging by their play. Drew Stubbs still doing well at AA so there is some hope for next year but I really honestly don’t think this team will go anywhere so long as Crusty is at the helm.

While I will give Jacoby credit for getting Jay Bruce back on track, he needs to be taken to task for most of these hitters coming to the plate without any plan in mind. Ray Knight is the only hitting coach that I can think of in recent memory that was any worse.

I enjoy listening to the Lookouts games while looking at the Gameday’s of the Reds and Bats. The announcers are great at AA, “Crimony, if you don’t know your signs by now…this isn’t little league, throw the ball.” They said of the opposing team. Hilarious.

Continuing to start Corey Patterson is why Dusty Baker will never manage again once I’m through with him.

  • I didn’t really pay attention to the game tonight until now. Patterson batting 2nd? Unfuckingbelievable!

We’ll all back you up Kevin, what ever you have planned…unless it involves something that would cause us to go to jail.
