Game Thread: Rockies at Reds — 2008.07.26

Homer Bailey takes the mound tonight as the Reds try once more to creep closer to .500.

Does it seem to anyone else like the Reds lose every single time we start to think that .500 might be within reach? Discuss.

Anyway, I won’t be around tonight because we’ll be watching the AA Tennessee Smokies playing the Montgomery Biscuits. I’ll be following on the game thread, though, so keep me updated.

Do they have a stat for that? There is something Sisyphean going on here.

I can’t believe these guys are talking about Rush. That’s awesome and yet disturbing at the same time.

I’m not positive but whenever they’ve hit about 3 games under .500 they start slumping. Then they come back to about 3 and then goes back into slump mode.

Thom Brennaman is a dork It’s 80’s night and he is wearing a suit.

Johnny Bench Night – I was there!

The least Thom could have done was wear a leisure suit.

Did Griffey even try to catch that ball?

Ya know, if the Reds were in the American League, we could put Bruce in right, Patterson in center, and let Griffey DH for Patterson….

The Montgomery Biscuits? I like biscuits as much as the next guy, but I’m not sure I’d name a team after them.

Is Welch the lone Reds broadcaster to ever utter the word “sample size,” which means he is the lone one to acknowledge any degree of understanding of statistics use?

What’s special about the biscuits in Montgomery? I know Huntsville has take hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves only ham, eggs, and biscuits that is like an Alabama institution that celebrities far and wide have gone to eat.

Homer and those 0-2 pitches. Learn to waste one.

Will someone perform some type of ritual to exorcise the bad luck demons from Homer?

  • The lack of effort by Griffey is astounding.

Dear God, there’s some luck to help poor Homer. When you consider the Reds horrible defense, their pitching is better than it appears.

Junior’s skills have deteriorated so badly how can you tell if it is a lack of effort? He’s probably still winded from last night’s triple.

What happened with the error on EE? I’m not watching or listening. Just looked at the box score. He has as many errors this year as last already.

I no longer blame Dusty Baker for this team’s problems…I fully accept that this team sucks as a whole and with or without good management they still suck.

Looks like Dick Poles “words of wisdom” to Bailey screwed him up again, send him down to a real pitching coach and he’ll be better.

Bailey has 9 hits allowed through four innings, but only one run. That quite the way to scatter ‘em.

I’ve never heard George Grande, but I did just hear Jeff Brantley say “And the pitch to Griffey…popped up. Holliday…goes back, and that one is gone, goodbye!”

Hmmm. Bailey’s luck tonight finally ran out. 15 hits allowed in 4.2 innings.

Bailey obviously should have been pulled before De La Rosa got 2 RBIs, but it’s only obvious in retrospect… Strange (and frustrating) game.

I predict a 2 pitch out for BP, 3 max

nope 1 pitch out, that must be frustrating to the team mates

    ReplyReply
  • I would think Griffey jogging/loafing to second on that play is more frustrating than Phillips hacking.

That was one of the most impressive 15 hit, 4.2 inning performances I have ever witnessed.
