It will be Todd Coffey. He hasn’t been in a game yet, and our bullpen is pretty taxed. He’ll get some game action today and I’m sure he’ll blow the game WIDE open.

    Valentin at first? That’s cute.

Well, I’m watching from the hotel room. We went to the Beach water park today and I just don’t have the energy to make it down to the park. I’m getting too old for amusement parks.

George Grande with a “Johnny on the spot” comment. He is such a Mr. Rogers.

Holy crap. Marty relates that Josh Fogg was hit in the mouth by a ball during batting practice today, and went to the hospital to get 30 stitches on his upper lip. Yikes.

Some nights when I watch this team I am convinced they are the worst team I have ever seen.

Alright we get to throw away a bases loaded opportunity!! This is my favorite part of Reds baseball.

George just uttered a negative comment.

A tip of the hat to Paul Bako for a very clutch hit.

The Reds seem to be the ultimate example of a luck dependent team. Good luck and they win. Bad luck and they lose. Good teams win no matter what their luck is like.

Reds come from 2 or more runs behind to tie it up again. Every game since the break. This is kind of fight out of the lineup is getting disheartening. And c’mon Kurt, bit extreme dont you think. If not for late game pitching, the reds are 5-0 since the break, WORST TEAM EVER?

With tonight’s K’s added, Johnny C has 114 for the season. Reds team K total at 782 so far.

    July 22nd, 2008 at 9:27 pm

Team total of K’s up to 784 after a nice inning of Jeremy A.

Did George Grande really just say that the Padre’s bull pen averages 10 hits per inning?

  17. Y-City Jim
    July 22nd, 2008 at 9:36 pm

He did then corrected himself to say he meant per nine innings. I can forgive blunders like that. It’s the Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood style of broadcasting that drives me whacky. Wonder what the guy is like drunk?

Pythagorean Theorem?!! What do the sides of a triangle have to do with bullpen runs?

    Maybe I’m just bitter.

Pythagorean Theorem?!! What do the sides of a triangle have to do with bullpen runs?

I only caught a part of that comment but I wondered how the Pythagorean Theorem was applying to the game. I know baseball has a strong element of math to it but…

Are you at the game again tonight, Kurt?

What is Dusty look at in the dugout? Computer?

Let’s score about ten runs and then run out CoCo Crispie.

Couldn’t make it tonight. Too tired after spending all day at the water park. I’m watching it on TV at the hotel.

How great would it be if Dusty was actually looking at the Redlegnation site. “They’re saying whatever happens Outerson shouldn’t play. Some experts these fools are Outerson isn’t even a player on our team. Hey Corey grab your bat and go hit for the pitcher.”

Bill James applied the Pythagorean theorem to baseball a long time ago. It’s one of the basic tenets of sabermetrics.

Basically, run differential is a very, very reliable predictor of W-L records. If a team’s actual W-L diverges widely from its predicted record, they’re likely to regress back their likely point.

Trent Rosecrans got the full Grande treatment earlier: Called him “RoseNcrans.” Trent joins Albert Pullholes and Jerry Harriston, Jr.

Ask last year’s Diamondbacks about that theory.

  29. Y-City Jim
    July 22nd, 2008 at 9:59 pm

So it is his own formula that has some similar qualities to the Pythagorean Theorem, correct?

I asked this question on another topic:

Did Dusty once make the comment that black players perform better in day games? Someone posted that on Fay’s blog and I was just in disbelief that he could have said something as ignorant as that.

Also Junior was quoted as saying he enough guns and ammo at his house that he could supply the police. What kind of neighborhood is he living in?

  32. Kurt Frost

    Yes, Dusty said that.

How come we haven’t scored in two nights off one of the league’s worst bullpens?

look at griffey. I havent seen him run one out in a long time. Props for the effort. trade him.

It was like slow motion. I think I heard the theme from “Chariots of Fire” while he was running.

So, can Harang come off the DL to pitch in relief tonight? What is it with extra inning games vs. the Padres?

Praise the bullpen tonight as well.

REDS WIN !!!! The bullpen’s line: 5 IP, 8 Ks, 0 BBs, 2 hits (both singles). So who needs Coco and Weathers ? And who guessed the Majewk Man would be tonite’s winning pitcher ?

    July 22nd, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Y-City Jim, I’m still laughing about comment 36, Junior running to first base in slo mo with The Chariots of Fire music playing. That’s classic, you should be a filmmaker.
