As long as we avoid a sweep today and win the series against the brewers, we won’t enter the break any farther from .500 than a week ago when we all saw that glimmer of hope.
Home Run gives Reds one run, poor play in the outfield gives the Cubs 2. Have to eliminate, by subtraction, some more production from that “Can’t replace that 40-100-100″ argument!
But if you are going to point to a players offensive prodution alone as to his value then you better be an American League Team. He is a defensive liability.
He would be a perfect fit for a team like Tampa Bay. In fact he might put them over the top. But the Reds can’t afford him for overall production and cost.

People forget that Dunn also provides better pitches for other batters around him. Listen to any opposing team’s announcer broadcast, you’ll hear the same refrain:
Keep the guys in front of Dunn off base for when he gets up. The other guys are seeing strikes, they (for the most part) just aren’t hitting them. I fail to see how it’s Dunn’s fault he hits solo homeruns since the guys don’t get on in front of him.
John Fay just said that neither Griffey or Dunn were having even “mediocre” years. Dunn has an OPS of .902. This man is published? He also said Hairston is a viable option for next year. I like the dude, he’s having a good year (so far), but do people really think he’s going to keep this up?
“Not to change the subject or anything…but why in the world is Junior still hitting 3rd with his average?” Because (I know I say it all the time but) Dusty Baker is a bumbling fool.
I can’t believe they’re gonna bring Homer up AGAIN…
“They say he’s throwing the ball good right now,” Baker said. “His velocity is better. His command is better. I hope so. We’re pulling for him.” THEY SAY? Who the hell is THEY? Merry Christmas Brew Crew.
The corked bat, then the ‘roids then the “I no speak english”…Sammy’s a loser and I’m sure when the money runs out that good lookin wife of his will be gone as well.
Ross’s homer was very very weak. It went off the inside of the bat and the wind just barely dragged it into that basket about a foot from the foul pole..I’ll take it though..
Good to see Kepp is hitting again, must be the goatee. Agree Buddy, why the heck bring up Bailey instead of DT? Oh well, they’ll just eat their words again.
And why is that Fuckodummy starting the all-star game? Even Arroyo can get him out.
And why do all the Japanese players have that same dainty-butt dip batting stance?
Did they all go to the same little league camp? Just wondering….not profiling.
Holy sh.. Dunn just easily hit it out of the whole damn stadium. I haven’t seen a ball that far in a long time….
It almost got to the roof top of the apartments across the street from the stadium..
So why has Bako been used over Ross by Dumpy so often?… because he’s a bumbling fool and doesn’t know the stats on his own players. Yes, I answered my own question.
Cordero pitched because he hasn’t pitched since Sunday. He needed to get in today.
How do you know that Ross won’t play if he gets hot? He hasn’t been hot all year. He had ONE home run entering today.
The Reds are below average defensively at catcher, 1b, ss, 3b, lf and rf. Until that changes this team will continue to putter along.
Was at the game today, Dunn’s home run went a LONG WAY, but did not come close to landing on the roof top (that would be impossible). It did land in the street. 2-3 from the Brewers and this is a successful trip.
That’s why you are not the manager. He had three days off. Anything more and Cordero would not be effective when we did need him. Three days off his plenty for a closer. He and Burton needed the work.
Damn.
As much as I hate the cubs, I’d rather lose to a team with 50 wins than a team with 30.

Homer Bailey will pitch on Sunday.
As long as we avoid a sweep today and win the series against the brewers, we won’t enter the break any farther from .500 than a week ago when we all saw that glimmer of hope.
Dunn strikes again.
Home Run gives Reds one run, poor play in the outfield gives the Cubs 2. Have to eliminate, by subtraction, some more production from that “Can’t replace that 40-100-100″ argument!
If Arroyo can pitch well today the Reds have a chance to win. They have a history of success against Ted Lilly.
What about Keepinger’s error? He didn’t contribute at the plate at all. Same goes with Encarnacion’s non-error.
I wouldn’t pay them superstar money either.
But if you are going to point to a players offensive prodution alone as to his value then you better be an American League Team. He is a defensive liability.
He would be a perfect fit for a team like Tampa Bay. In fact he might put them over the top. But the Reds can’t afford him for overall production and cost.
They arent making $13M dollars

Not to change the subject or anything…but why in the world is Junior still hitting 3rd with his average?
Somebody put a mirror under Walt’s nose, I want to know if he is still breathing.
Cubs strike first. 1-0.
EE ties it up with a homer.
EE actually contributes…amazing
To bad Dunn couldn’t get on ahead of him…thats ok though…he’ll hit a solo shot down by 6 in the 8th
A new low, Chris and George are now comparing Arroyo’s Win/loss to which JTM comercial gets played during the game…ugh
John Fay just said that neither Griffey or Dunn were having even “mediocre” years. Dunn has an OPS of .902. This man is published? He also said Hairston is a viable option for next year. I like the dude, he’s having a good year (so far), but do people really think he’s going to keep this up?
Finally, Phillips hits his first homer ever at Wrigley.
This game changed awful fast!
WGN announcers are complaining about Phillips “celebrating”….
Lefty Lilly hit hard this inning . . . good.
Lou should enter a boiler contest. He would definitely be a finalist.
Wow – kind of a quick hook from Piniella. 2.2 innings, 4 runs charged so far for Lilly. But the score is just 4-3 Reds.
Maybe I’m just used to watching Baker, who always seems to let his starters struggle until a big homer puts the game effectively out of reach.
“Not to change the subject or anything…but why in the world is Junior still hitting 3rd with his average?” Because (I know I say it all the time but) Dusty Baker is a bumbling fool.
Griffey just went yard…nice
Nice shot, Griffey.
Wooohoo!
Finally some offense! And Griffey a big contributor!
7-3 Reds!
Jr hits a 3 run homer. 7-3 good guys.
Save some runs for Brewers please!
I just want to see Jr. pass Sammy the cheater.
Which Sammy cheat offends you most – the ‘roids, the ‘I no speak english’ testimony, or the corked bat?
I can’t believe they’re gonna bring Homer up AGAIN…
“They say he’s throwing the ball good right now,” Baker said. “His velocity is better. His command is better. I hope so. We’re pulling for him.” THEY SAY? Who the hell is THEY? Merry Christmas Brew Crew.
Sweet, quickly 9-5 thanks to Ross. No lead is big enough today.
Uh oh. Rain starts, and from the looks of the radar a more severe thunderstorm may arrive shortly. Just get through the 5th! Hurry up and make outs!
Good to see Kepp is hitting again, must be the goatee. Agree Buddy, why the heck bring up Bailey instead of DT? Oh well, they’ll just eat their words again.
And why is that Fuckodummy starting the all-star game? Even Arroyo can get him out.
Does Dumpy Baker have any body warming up in the pen?
And why do all the Japanese players have that same dainty-butt dip batting stance?
Did they all go to the same little league camp? Just wondering….not profiling.
Any they say that the Reds only hit home runs because of the “bandbox”????
Holy sh.. Dunn just easily hit it out of the whole damn stadium. I haven’t seen a ball that far in a long time….
It almost got to the roof top of the apartments across the street from the stadium..
Can’t blame Dusty for that one. This is why the Reds will never win or be in the post season.
Terrible play on an easy double play by Encarnacion
Never seen Edwin throw wildly to second base. Always a first time.
Made good on the second opportunity. Difference is that a run scores anyway this time. 10-7.
Ross triples his HR total after today.
That Ross homer wasn’t a cheapie.
Six straight innings with a homer for the Reds. Why can’t they do that every night?
Ross triples his season’s HR output! Nothing too cheap about that one.
Gaudin supposed to be better than this, I would have imagined. Since when do the Reds get hits off a guy that’s new to the league?
All but two position players for the Reds with two hits today. Patterson could probably get a hit today if playing.
So why has Bako been used over Ross by Dumpy so often?… because he’s a bumbling fool and doesn’t know the stats on his own players. Yes, I answered my own question.
If Ross were to get hot would Bako sit?
What was the American Girl thing they were giving out today?
Watching the game on TV and listening to the radio magnifies how horrific of a play by play man Jeff Brantley is.
You know Lincoln’s ERA is almost below 4. That’s something for someone who hasn’t pitched in several years prior to 2008.
Jim–”If Ross were to get hot would Bako sit?”
Ross is a streaky hitter, of course Dusty Baker does not know his own players or much of anything so I say Bako will be in vs. Brewers.
Why is Coco on in a non-saving situation? Why not Weathers since it is a 5 run lead? Dusty mentality again.
Wow, the Reds win!
Harang’s MRI came back negative. It is considered a strain. It will be re-evaluated next week.
Good, that’s great news
Hey they won!
That’s great news! Let him rest for a while is the plan. Lets hope he gets better and Bailey can do good for now. “We’re pulling for him.”
Sorry for the repeats, having technical difficulty
Cordero pitched because he hasn’t pitched since Sunday. He needed to get in today.
How do you know that Ross won’t play if he gets hot? He hasn’t been hot all year. He had ONE home run entering today.

I would have held Cordero back one more day to be fully rested if needed in the opening game series vs. Milwaukee.
That’s why you are not the manager. He had three days off. Anything more and Cordero would not be effective when we did need him. Three days off his plenty for a closer. He and Burton needed the work.
Why is Coco on in a non-saving situation? Why not Weathers since it is a 5 run lead? Dusty mentality again.
Or maybe because a 5 runs isn’t enough insurance to put Weathers in if you actually want to win the game.
There’s plenty of reasons I’m not the manager. Bullpen usage and lineups is nowhere near the top of the list.
