Trade Jerry Hairston?

Red Hot Mama makes a compelling case.

(By the way, I saw RHM’s video on the Reds scoreboard last week when I was in town. Cheesy, perhaps, but she sure loves her Reds.)

Unrelated but Hal McCoy is reporting that Harang was sent back to Cincinnati to have a MRI. He is theorizing that Tommy John surgery might be in Harang’s immediate future based on what happened when Dempster was with the Reds. He somewhat points the finger at the relief stint on May 25 as the possible cause.

    Son of a gun.

  • I think TJ surgery is jumping the gun a little bit.

Is jumping the gun but there is definitely something wrong and Dusty Baker is certainly part of the blame. Don’t forget about what happened with K. Wood and M. Prior in Chicago. I’ll bet the Cubs fans are really laughing at the Reds now.

Trading Hairston may not be a bad idea as he is having a career year and a contender could use a guy like him…and package Sorrey Bakerson to please!

I love what Jerry Hairston is doing for this team, but if he goes who hits leadoff? Jay Bruce? That is just…stupid. And God forbid Dusty sticks Brandon Phillips in the leadoff spot.

Just for clarification…is there anything you DON’T blame on Dusty Baker?

who cares who hits leadoff? This team is going nowhere and needs to start looking at next season and the future. (yes, i know, it gets old)

“Fire Dusty Baker”…that is all we need and the team will correct itself. It’s really that simple. I’ve followed the Reds for 25 years and he’s made some of the dumbest decisions I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, never mind Wood had already broken down three years before Baker arrived and has repeatedly said Baker was not the culprit, and Prior injured his knee in a 2004 baserunning collision and frigged up his mechanics that led to his shoulder woes, as he’s also stated. And look at two of Harang’s three starts before the San Diego relief stint, which, btw, was his throwing day and he threw 46 of 64 pitches as fastballs, which is what he would have thrown in the pen anyhow. Yes, let’s not forget those facts.

What’s at fault was Harang making his next start 3 days after the San Diego relief stint. But did that ruin him? C’mon. One appearance rarely causes serious injury. It’s usually a gradually erosion of that ligament and it could go on any given pitch, any given appearance.

mhopp has obviously blacked out the Ray Knight, Bob Boone, Dave Miley eras for stupidity and cluelessness. PLEASE, tell me how you do that because I’ve got some old sports editors who are recurring nightmares!

nope not much…he’s the leader. His title is “Manager” so success and failure of the team rides on his back more than any single person. When you have trouble at any place of business do you go to the cashier? The sales person? No, you ask for the “Manager” and Dusty has offered virtually no logical response to continually putting .200 hitter lead off and burning a #1 and #2 starter for a useless game that wouldn’t have made much difference whether they won or not. Who does a team get rid of when they continually struggle after continually making changes? The CF? The C? no, the manager or management. Only reason Baker is still there is there is several years left on his contract.

Dusty Baker has a cure for cancer but he won’t tell anyone.

Mhopp, When was the last time Corey Patterson hit leadoff? When was the last time he hit leadoff multiple days in a row? The last time he hit leadoff was June 17th. The last time he hit leadoff multiple days in a row was May 20th and May 21st. My point is Dusty moved on from doing that, I suggest you move one as well.

As far as to blame Dusty for wrecking Harang I’ll point you to this link: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=879

When will the results of the MRI be known?

  • Dusty Baker is responsible for the two dumbest managerial decisions in baseball this year…. and he made them both in the same game.
Using Harang and Volquez in extra innings rank 1 and 2 on the ‘dumbest moves in baseball this year by Doug Gray’. The man is a walking, talking baseball moron. The fact that the Reds knew his past history with pitchers yet still hired him almost makes me want to somehow tell Castellini, this is what you get for being a freaking moron and hiring a freaking moron.

Hairston’s stock will never be higher. Let’s see if we can pull a Rheal Cormier on someone else for a change.

Krivsky made it clear upon his departure that he was told to do what it took to get Patterson signed and in Cincy. Anyone wanna guess who was behind that? I know who’d I’d guess it was. One day this season with Patterson at the leadoff spot, no matter who was behind his signing, was one too many. Patterson is a huge Dusty screwup this season. At least he has pleasantly surprised us with his treatment of the young arms and young position players. Now if only he will be able to get over his Hairston crush when he finally cools off back to his normal production.

  • I’m not sure what we could get for Hairston, but if it’s enough you have to deal the 32 year old.

He has done an outstanding job for us and I love the passion he plays with. He could be a big help to a contender needing some depth. What do you think would be his trade value? He could be a valuable part of a package deal I suppose.

I’m with Dallas and Mr. Redlegs, I am sick of mhopps rantings. I pretty much just skip over what he says anymore.

I like Hairston and would keep him around. He and Keppinger are the only two guys that run hard to first on every at-bat. The laziness on this team drives me crazy.

  • Of course, just last week, Marty was complaining about Keppinger running the bases lazily and causing an extra out. I didn’t see it, but he spent a long time complaining.

I missed that too, but if it happened I agree with Marty. I paid close attention during the Cubs series as I was sitting along the first base side and the majority of the players did not run hard down to first base. Adam Dunn could have made one play at first real interesting when he grounded out to right field and it was close even with him jogging to first. Hairston busts it down the line almost every time.

Calling for Baker’s head after 3 months of baseball may be the definition of retarded.
The Reds have sucked consistantly for the better part of 2 decades. Dusty Baker is supposed to fix that in 3 months? Grow up.
