James Avery gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings pitched to pick up the win and improve his record to 5-5 on the season.  Derrick Lutz picked up his first save by pitching .2 scoreless innings in the 9th.

Sarasota Reds

The Reds had the day off.

Fort Wayne 6 – Dayton 2

Anthony Gressick went 1-4 while hitting his 3rd homerun of the season.  The Dragons’ struggles continue, striking out 13 times at the plate offensively.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, starter Joshua Ravin walked 8 batters in 3.1 innings pitched to pick up the loss.  He gave up 5 runs and 3 hits while striking out 2, falling to to 2-5 on the season.

Billings 8 – Great Falls 3

Alex Buckholz went 3-5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and an rbi.  Buckholz is now batting .429 with 5 doubles on the season.  Tony Brown, Neftali Soto, Brett Bartles, and Michael Konstanty had 2 hits each for the Mustangs.

Jamie Arneson improved to 2-0 on the year by going 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks.  Arneson struck out 5.

GCL Reds 6 – GCL Red Sox 0

Samuel Vasquez and Donald Lutz each went 2-4 for the Reds with a double.  Vasquez scored twice while Lutz scored once and drove in a run.

Juan Rafael made the start and picked up his first win at the rookie level.  Rafael went 6 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and a walk while striking out 6.  He has yet to be score upon in 11.2 rookie innings this season.  He wasn’t as successful early on in the season with Dayton nor Sarasota.

Wo. I missed the Rob Mackowiak signing. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that move only makes sense if they think there’s a chance they will unload Griffey or Dunn.

I’ve been seeing Rosales name on here a lot lately. He has been en fuego the past month!

Mackowiak is to fill the vacancy left by Andy Phillips being picked up by the Mets. He has no major league quality to him.
