A couple of months ago, we noted that the Reds would be wearing camouflage jerseys sometime over Independence Day weekend.
Well, turns out the Reds will be wearing the following caps this weekend, as well:

Yes, that’s navy blue. Every team will be wearing navy caps, for some reason.
It’s a great charity, and I’m glad to see MLB supporting it, but let’s be honest: seeing the Reds wearing navy caps and camouflage jerseys is going to be simply ridiculous-looking.
Plus, I’ll be at those games with my family, and my kids will probably be asking where the players I watch on television are.

Basically every team is going to end up looking like the Padres when they wear their camo jerseys. I agree that I love what they’re doing but it’ll be a strange sight to see when they take the field in camo jerseys and navy caps.
This is going to get me in trouble, but I also want to point out that Independence Day doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with America’s current military exploits. Memorial Day might be better suited (but I do support the charity as well)
Word up, Kevin. Better said than I could have managed.
I also notice that MLB has conflated this promotion with Sep. 11th as well. Why not continue to honor firefighters and police officers especially on that day, as with the Mets and their FDNY and NYPD caps/patches?
Unrelated news:
Inoa reportedly signs with the A’s. Since when does Billy Beane throw 4.2 million around like this?
Junior out of the line-up tonight, which means Hairston in CF.
I saw that Inoa signing report, which by rule can’t be official until July 2nd . . . . there have been more small-market teams heavily investing in foreign free-agents this year, including the Reds with Juan Duran earlier.
Outbidding the Yankees and/or Red Sox is no small matter. Either this is a mob mentality situation (Billy Beane is doing it, we should too!) or there is an unusually talented crop of overseas and Latin American prospects this year.
Reportedly the Reds have reached an unofficial agreement with Venezuelan teenaged outfielder Yorman Rodriguez. Probably another one in the neighborhood of a $2mil bonus.
Speaking of alternate uni’s, why don’t the Reds ever wear throwbacks like the Indians did last night? I love seeing old jerseys, and it seems like we never do it. What’s the deal?
Blue hats and camo? A-W-F-U-L
In other news…
So now even those of us in far-away places know that Manny Ramirez is a D-I-C-K. Pushing the teams travel secretary to the ground because he can’t get free stuff, in this case 16 last minute tickets to a game. “Just do your job”, Manny say’s as he assaults the poor twirp with his massive frame. In any other workplace in the land, he would be facing termination and possible criminal charges but not in the make-believe fantasy world of professional baseball where he apololgizes behind closed doors gives the guy some signed memorabilia (“Thanks Manny, Yer still my hero”) and all is forgiven. “It was all just a misunderstanding” said Terry Francona. A misunderstanding??? LMAO…Hey Manny, you filthy rich, pompous and O so self-important A$$clown, here’s a thought…Why don’t you walk your O so entitled, well heeled and “rolling in it” butt out to the box office and BUY 16 tickets!! Pathetic…Remember when baseball players used to be humble, hard-working, regular guys, happy to be lucky enough to get to “play a game” for a living? I don’t either but it sounded nice.
i like the hat
navy blue is one of my fave colors.
i would like to see some throwback
I never really thought about that, but I haven’t seen the reds in a throwback jersey in as long as I can remember…(I just started watching baseball again 4 years ago, though) I’d love it if they did that, especially since they’re the oldest team.
yeah some throwbacks of the first season
they did go undefeated
it might bring luck
Maybe because most of the old Reds’ teams in history wore jerseys with no buttons?
I think it’d be cool to see the Reds wearing a throwback jersey.
