A winning road trip? Could it be possible?

Bronson Arroyo is pitching, so don’t hold your breath. Discuss it here.

  • Do you think Walt made Dusty stop leading Patterson off?

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

No, I think public pressure put a stop to it.

A winning road trip rests with Arroyo. Not real good odds.

Dusty surely must have egg on his face from having Patterson at all. At this point, with Dunn and Griffey on the trading block we unfortunately may see more of him since one or both of those are going to be leaving.

Weird line-up with Bruce and Votto and Eddie back:

    Jerry Hairston Jr. CF
    Jeff Keppinger SS
    Ken Griffey Jr. DH
    Brandon Phillips 2B
    Edwin Encarnacion 3B
    Adam Dunn LF
    Javier Valentin 1B
    Norris Hopper RF
    David Ross C

Weird line-up without Bruce and Votto is what I meant.

  • Y-City Jim

With the exception of one outing, Laffey has been pretty good for the Indians.

    ReplyReply
  • mhopp

Of course, Dusty takes Bruce out after going 2 for 4 and Votto out after 2 for 4 last night when both hit LHP’s good. What a fool.

Oh the base running on this team, ugh

    ReplyReply
  • BenL

With 2 outs and a big guy like done who can hit the catcher hard I think that it was right to send him, even if it didn’t work this time.

    ReplyReply
  • BenL

    Sorry, that’s “Dunn”, not “done”… I guess I’m thinking phoenetically…

    ReplyReply
  • mhopp

Yeah, just to see how brave the catcher is and hope done knocks the ball out.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

At least Arroyo made it through the line-up once.

Dunn flashes the leather. Knows Arroyo needs all the help he can get.

Ugh, 6.32 ERA…how much is going to make next year?

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Is Grande the play-by-play man and Welsh the color man? Why then does George act like he is broadcasting for the History Channel?

Base paths just got a lot uglier with the Blake walk.

I could deal with the haircut in 2006 when he was pitching well…but I don’t feel like he can justify it anymore…I’d like to see a list of the worst “ERA to Contract Size” ratios in the league.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

Although I’m pleased enough with the first three innings……..(knocking on wood)

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Bronson will make about $1.5 million per each of the earned runs in that ERA.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

I could deal with BA’s playboy/rocker image if he performed well on the mound. When he doesn’t then you question, right or wrong, his work ethic.

  • Y-City Jim

    At times, BP sucks.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

I forgot, isn’t he usually a league leader in “douple plays grounded into”?

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

It’s interesting that there isn’t a whole lot of difference between Laffey’s change-up and fastball yet he has been very effective this season for the Indians. Good thing since they will lose Sabathia after this year.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

It seems BP has been much more profound at grounding into DP’s this year.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

If I’m Mark Shapiro I am dealing Sabathia for as many good prospects I can get my hands on. There is no way Larry Dolan is coughing up the money to resign him. Dolan is tighter than Carl Linder and not nearly as wealthy.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Carl Willis would be another good candidate for Reds pitching coach.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

Last season Pujols and Carlos Lee lead the majors in “grounded into douple plays” with 27, BP had 26. This season he has 10, but not a leader because looks like Derrek Lee is on pace to break the record.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Dunn has two “Hot Dog Play of the Game” plays so far in this game. Add his getting plunked two times.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Lee has probably had more opportunities to ground into DP’s than Phillips.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Did some guy from Toronto light a fire under Dunn?

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Hopper sure didn’t look like he was running the burners down to 1B.

    ReplyReply
  • BenL

Nope, and I think he would have been on with an E if he had.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

WOOO!!! We’re on the board. And Keppinger’s up, who I generally trust not to disappoint.

Three outs in the bottom of this inning and then come on rain!

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

NWS radar doesn’t show much at the moment.

I know the Indians offense is pretty weak but Bronson has been pretty shockingly good today. If he could do this a little more consistently.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

One thing about the Indians and Reds shared spring raining complex is one doesn’t have to worry about a hurricane wiping it out like in Homestead, FL.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Anti-type Patterson AB for Hopper – 9 pitches.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

What the heck, George!!! No “I think the park will hold it” comment. The ball was off the wall.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Hopefully Rick Bauer pitches another inning because he is usually good for giving up three runs per outing.

Sizemore, the lone offensive threat for the Indians, owns Arroyo today.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

    oops.

Looks like Bronson curbed the partying before today’s start.

He was probably partying with his Red Sox buddies since they had an off day in New York the day before his last start in Toronto. He probably thought he could pitch drunk like his friend, David Wells!

  • Y-City Jim

    Arroyo has very little stamina.

  • Y-City Jim

Is Kelly Shoppach just a bit PO’ed?

  • ChicagoRedsFan

Bronson needs to strengthen his legs. He starts to lose it after about 85 pitches.

    ReplyReply
  • rob

Hey 47, I wondered the same thing about Arroyo’s last start. That stuff is kept under wraps but wouldn’t surprise me if he was out partying Sunday night and Monday.

    ReplyReply
  • ChicagoRedsFan

I’d be surprised if Bronson didn’t party at least a little. The Red Sox were playing at home.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Welke’s strike zone is all over the place.

    ReplyReply

Dunn is a stud, but I’m not so sure that the Reds plan to resign him. Are there any elite power hitters eligible for free agency after the season? Jocketty/Castellini might be waiting to see who’s available before deciding on Dunn.

    ReplyReply
  • BenL

I think Pat Burell is, but I can’t imagine why the Reds would let Dunn (who is a sure thing if they want him) go in hopes of signing someone so similar.

    ReplyReply
  • DevilsAdvocate

Remember when Andy Marte was a #1 can’t-miss prospect? Boy, did he ever miss. Let that be a lesson, if the Braves are willing to trade a prospect, that prospect is not as good as he looks. Exhibit #2 would be Matt Belisle.

I really don’t pay attention to baseball outside of the Reds…so I’m wondering, do all teams have crappy relief pitchers that scare, frustrate, and disappoint them?

    ReplyReply
  • renbutler

    Yee-haw Brandon Philips!

    ReplyReply
  • DevilsAdvocate

I don’t care how well Utley hits, I’m going to be upset if Phillips gets passed over for Gold Glove this year.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

Also, I remember something in 2006 about Arroyo leading the league in innings pitched and being a workhorse with a lot of endurance? Oh how things change…

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

George and Chris talking about who have to carry the load for the Reds to turn it around. Griffey’s name mentioned by them. My advice is don’t be holding your breath on Junior carrying much of a load.

    ReplyReply
  • mhopp

Wow, Dusty has been brining in the high ERA relievers with a sizable lead. I like that idea, makes good sense.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

I know he’s a future hall-of-famer, and hit 600 homeruns, but I still laugh out loud every time I see he’s going to start the All-Star Game. I don’t understand why an outfielder who can’t run and hits .230 would be an All-Star.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

    Try, try, try to understand
    He’s a magic man, mama
    He’s a magic man

Gary Majewski on to try to protect a six run lead.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

It’s also nice of him to bring in Majewski because I’m sure it keeps the ratings up, I’m not comfortable closing gameday and working on my paper, even at 8-2 in the 8th.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

I see the All-Star Game as Junior’s good bye. I really think he hangs it up at the end of this season.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

I hope he hangs it up at the end of this season…I really do love Junior’s demeanor and attitude, and it’s great that he came back to Cincinnati like he did, but if he keeps playing after this year, I feel like it will just amount to a smudge on his legacy.

  • Y-City Jim

In keeping with nicknaming the relievers after Heart songs… How about Bray-acuda?

Dunn got ripped off for the “Hot Dog Play of the Game.”

Do the Indians fans yet realize how Shaprio/Wedge screwed up by trading Phillips?

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

I take it the fans went to their cars after that last downpour.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

With some luck and some intensity, the Reds should go 7-0 on the home stand. Doing so would put them at .500 (45-45).

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

So, I guess we’re going to have a winning road-trip. It’s weird to think that we have 5 more wins this season at the halfway point than last year…I don’t remember feeling this outraged and hateful about our performance a year ago!

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

The Crappy Patterson Affair has enraged us to new levels of hostility. Dopey Baker has been a contributing factor as well.

    ReplyReply
  • Buddy

I still can’t believe they changed the name of this ballpark to Progressive Field. How incredibly lame.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

I think if Castellini and Jocketty would sit down during the All-Star break with Dunn (which means going fishing with him) that Dunn would sign an extension.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

Buddy- especially after what Jacobs did for resurrecting the franchise. Dolan so overpaid for the team that he has to do everything he can to make money.

    ReplyReply
  • Buddy

Well I guess they didnt have much choice. No wonder ballparks and arena’s are all named after corporations, according to Wiki, Progressive agreed to pay $57.6 million for the naming rights for 16 years…must be nice having that kind of money to blow

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

I’m glad there are others out there who want Dunn back…I feel worried more than ever this year that he’s going. Usually it’s just trade rumors and I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but this year it feels more serious.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

I wonder if business goes up whenever you have a ballpark named after yourself…I still don’t even know what Progressive does.

    ReplyReply
  • Kevin

also, Corey Patterson is playing, just so everyone knows.

    ReplyReply
  • Buddy

Staples Center, Bank One, Petco, and on and on and on…it’s pretty sad really eh Jim?,
well at least GABP doesn’t sound so much like a corp. name.

    ReplyReply
  • mhopp

one sure way to lose money would be to name a field after corey patterson.

    ReplyReply
  • Buddy

Kevin, Progressive is an insurance company.

    ReplyReply
  • mhopp

so much for Affeldt looking like good trade bait.

hahah, I know, I was just trying to make a point about how much of a waste “naming rights” seem to me.

Flashbacks from last year in late games

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

    Choo on that!!!

    ReplyReply
  • Buddy

right Kev gotcha….i agree…and then of course when the corps buy each other out…the park changes names Like in SF where every year it seems like its called something different.

    ReplyReply
  • Dallas

Add Affeldt to the garbage list.

    ReplyReply
  • Y-City Jim

    Reds win AGAIN!!!

Cleveland also has Quicken Arena (Locally know as the “Q”).

Affeldt should be a starter with that kind of stuff.

    ReplyReply

Wonder if Dumpy Baker will have the same line up against Pitt? I think they have primarily LHP’s which means possibly no Crappy Patterson
