Over the weekend Johnny Damon wondered aloud why the Reds were in last place. Games like tonight’s are the reason. The Reds are 12-7 in one run games, but they’ve played WAY fewer of those than almost all other teams. They’ve had so many games this year that were over before the 3rd or 4th inning, and every starter except Volquez has been guilty. As inconsistent as the hitting has been, the starting pitching is the reason this team is in last place……now who can we foist Arroyo on?
Wow, maybe Corey Patterson should pitch? Oh, this is an AL game so they will need his bat to catch up! Add Arroyo to the list with Baker, Patterson & Lincoln.
Oh, this will fix it Dusty. Why not give someone a try like Afeldt who was in the running for a starter? I think Arroyo’s career may be better as a singer, and that tells you how bad his pitching has been!
Another piss poor performance by a Reds starter. I don’t understand why the front office doesn’t lay the big bucks down for a quality free agent starting pitcher. Seems like no one’s told them you’ve got to spend money to make money.
I’d like to see them lay down some money for a new pitching coach and hitting coach. The Reds record of success on signing free agents hasn’t been real good. Basically are paying people to spend time on the DL most of their time here.
This game is so bad that FSOH is showing Blue Jay World Series highlights. George Grande is reminiscing. Sappy as usual. He should have taken over hosting Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.
That’s what I’m talking about! They should take the plunge and spend the money. I realize this organization is…hmm…frugal at times, but this kind of signing would show the fans that the Reds are serious about winning. I’ve been to several games in the past two years where there were fewer than 15,000 in attendance. Having C.C. in the rotation would not only seriously improve the Reds’ chance in the division, but it would put some butts in the seats. 20 million a year is a lot for one player, but it has to be looked at as an investment.
I like how Janish got on base. Tonight I would take that same treatment for everyone. Burnett is throwing it everywhere and we still can’t score. Pitiful. I’m going to take a shower and go to bed…..George just said that Majewski reminds him of Danny Graves. I know he doesn’t truly appreciate that remark the way we do….
The Reds would never pay $20 million a year, I just can’t imagine it because if CC got injured then what? Hell, that’s 25% of their current team salary…he’s going to the Mets, Braves maybe…someone who can afford it and then he’ll beat this crap out of the Reds.
Maloney pitching 7 innings of shutout ball at AAA now…Send Maj down again, put him in the bull pen and maybe he can work his way into the rotation? Anything is worth a try at this point.
Hmm thanks chad…yea 735 is just black…i don’t get it….the Indians/giants game is also not on 727…in fact the directv guide even says that 735 is “to be announced”. I’m in LA…this is not a problem with my set up…i hate directv automated phone crap…well at least im not missing anything good….IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?
The more I watch Dusty Baker’s decisions the more I dislike him…why is Bray in when he has an ERA of 2.38? Now is the time to put in the losers like Lincoln since the game is lost, what a fool.
The reds better keep Bray. Even though he isn’t a starter, i think it is time to put him in our youth hope along side of volquez, cueto, thompson.. and the youngs bats.
Also, is arroyo finally the 5th starter for this team?? Can a deal be made atleast like the phillie deal for lohse (sp)??
This is sad. I know the Reds have good young talent. I guess I just need to keep telling myself that over and over and over….This team, as its configured now will not contend in any meaningful way this season.

I like it
I’m glad to see Janish in the 8 spot and not in the customary shortstop 2nd spot.
Maybe Dusty is just a slow learner.
maybe jockety told him if he wants his pay check he better quit being a moron
Which better describes out feelings of Dusty?
Choice 1
Choice 2
I, as a preacher, go with 2….
Any recordings of the banana phone call from Sunday out there?
Ever get the feeling the Reds have adopted a “hit to contact” philosophy?
Sigh (here we go again)
Yep, Arroyo must go but who is going to want him?
This might be a long game.
What was Wells thinking?
Nobody wants Bronson. Zero trade value.
Bronson is another that has regressed under the tutorship of Dick Pole.
well, guess I don’t need to watch this game.
Put Affeldt in? Is Dusty Smart enough?
Is Arroyo possessed by Branden Claussen?
Looks like the Jays don’t need Dunn after all!

Only capital letters without punctuation can express my feelings:
O MY GOD THIS IS AWFUL
Even though George Carlin has passed away, comedy lives on…
1 inning, 11 hits, 9 earned, 3 homers, 1 walk…if there’s a worse line this year in major league baseball, I’d like to see it.
That has to be the worst outing by a Reds’ starter in a long, long time.
Wow, maybe Corey Patterson should pitch? Oh, this is an AL game so they will need his bat to catch up! Add Arroyo to the list with Baker, Patterson & Lincoln.

This is ugly
Brings back memories of that game with Milwaukee when Claussen got his brains beat in.
I think Arroyo has no passion for the game.
Arroyo apparently doesn’t pitch Canadian, eh!
That’s actually 10 runs allowed (all earned) by Arroyo – Majewski allowed an inherited runner to come around.
I guess Majewski is passionless too. I would be if I was brought in to pitch in a game like this.
31 runs allowed, here we come!
Nice sound effects by George Grande.
Bronson must be partying too much.
Ricciardi say he called Dunn over the weekend. Dunn says he never received a call from him.
STORY
Just exhale and relax, Dunner.
Maybe Dunn is getting as forgetful as Dusty and Arroyo…Dunn can’t hit, Dusty can’t manage and Arroyo can’t pitch! Must be contagious.
Good ol’ Jimmy Anderson allowed 11 runs in a start once, in 2003. But he threw five innings. He holds the club record for most runs allowed in a start.
At times, Majewski is very good. Has that stupid Danny Graves mentality of pitching from the stretch all the time.
Another piss poor performance by a Reds starter. I don’t understand why the front office doesn’t lay the big bucks down for a quality free agent starting pitcher. Seems like no one’s told them you’ve got to spend money to make money.
Trouble is, the best free agent starter this past winter was Kyle Lohse. And we were Done with him.
I’d like to see them lay down some money for a new pitching coach and hitting coach. The Reds record of success on signing free agents hasn’t been real good. Basically are paying people to spend time on the DL most of their time here.
C.C. Sabathia’s a free agent after this year, isn’t he?
comment 6 by Y-City Jim
I vote for choice #1
Please forgive me Preach.
How bad is Arroyo? So bad that I think the Reds could hit him.
Jim, even with Patterson in the line up?
You’re talking $20 million for C.C. The Reds aren’t going to pay that. He’s headed for one of the NY’s or Boston.
If it makes anyone feel better, Matt Maloney is pitching a 5 inning 3 hit shutout of Rochester right now.
Even Crappy Patterson.
This game is so bad that FSOH is showing Blue Jay World Series highlights. George Grande is reminiscing. Sappy as usual. He should have taken over hosting Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

Dusty, let’s play some little ball.
Are they auditioning Majewski for the rotation?
Janish takes a hard one in the back…11-1 game, the Magic Man needs to plunk someone. If the Reds can’t pitch, hit, or catch…maybe they can fight.
Man, Hopper is getting a work-out in CF tonight.
I think the Majestic is gassed.
I am so tired of that story that being made a starter destroyed Graves’ career.
Graves WHIP as a closer was what…200…300?
Finally home again…to this?
The Reds would never pay $20 million a year, I just can’t imagine it because if CC got injured then what? Hell, that’s 25% of their current team salary…he’s going to the Mets, Braves maybe…someone who can afford it and then he’ll beat this crap out of the Reds.

Good job by Affeldt. Now the comeback begins….
Could we please muster up some semblance of an offense?
What’s the exchange rate on these runs? Maybe we should just cash out.
Dunn with a dispassionate double.
That’s showing em’ Adam!
I don’t remember ever seeing a pinch-hitter for a DH before.
If he cared that would have been a triple. and scored 7 runs. Selfish.
#63…don’t ask Dunner, I heard he hasn’t traded in his money for “loonies and toonies” lately
I remember when I thought SkyDome was the coolest thing I’d ever heard of. Now it looks like a dump on television.
Dunn leads off with a double then fizzle.
If I hear George speak a word of French one more time…..
Hey guys just got home to the horror. Is anyone else not getting the game on DirecTV? Says its suppose to be on 735 but its not there….thx
Hairston is 2 for 4 at AAA…I’m pulling for louisville tonite as the Reds continue their dispassionateness
I’ve got it on 735, buddy. No HD, but I have the standard broadcast, George Grande and all.
Zaun lives in Cinci and wants to play for the Reds. I would take him as a backup and let these other guys go away. Maybe Johjima.
SkyDome was cooler when they have hotel guests performing for the spectators.
Marco Scutaro: Toronto’s Bill Hall.
It’s time to cut the cord on Bronson Arroyo. Bobby Livingston is on his way back, and Matt Maloney is pitching decent at AAA Louisville.
BRUUUUUUCE!
Hmm thanks chad…yea 735 is just black…i don’t get it….the Indians/giants game is also not on 727…in fact the directv guide even says that 735 is “to be announced”. Free Bronson Arroyo CD with a purchase of any two JTM products. I’d eat the CD and listen to the meat.
Bako is so horrible offensively.
The Reds new slogan: “Your Cincinnati Reds, making other MLB teams look great.”
Valentin on third and Weathers on the mound. That’s all you need to know…
Oh no, Weathers is in! He’ll probably blow this game!!!!!!
It’s nice that Dusty is finding a way to get Valentin i the line-up since their is such a logjam of fine catchers.
Heck, hit someone else, Dave.
oh, a bases loaded jam. That’s uncommon.
preach: I love the dry humor, it’s great since the games are often miserable we can look forward to that at least.
Weathers is an idiot. An idiot that cannot bend over.
Somebody on this team needs to just unload on the rest of the team. They can start on Arroyo’s partying butt.
Twinkle Toes Weathers sure is nimble out there.
Ok suddenly everything on Directv is working and i’m now able to witness this joke of a game with my own 2 eyes…..pathetic
The more I watch Dusty Baker’s decisions the more I dislike him…why is Bray in when he has an ERA of 2.38? Now is the time to put in the losers like Lincoln since the game is lost, what a fool.
I wonder if Bray is on the trading block? He would look pretty good to a contender.
But Bray is cheap.
Has every strike out been looking tonight?
If you were an opposing GM would you trade for Arroyo unless you had reliable info from scout who assured you he has a very correctable flaw?
Not unless he’s a previous Winger Roadie and loves 80’s rock music with a twist.
Is this what rock bottom looks like?
Bronson Arroyo has become the Kyle Lohse of the 08 season.
This is sad. I know the Reds have good young talent. I guess I just need to keep telling myself that over and over and over….This team, as its configured now will not contend in any meaningful way this season.
The season’s not even half over, this may not quite be rock bottom.
Another unfortunate Krivsky blunder. Why would you extend someone coming off a career year, his first year into a 3-yr contract?
