Insider Blog

Padres Assistant GM (and former Dodgers GM) Paul DePodesta is blogging.  Right now, he has thumbnail scouting reports and thoughts about all their draftees.  Apparently he’s been running an internal blog for Padres employees for a few months, and started the external blog to “engage in a direct dialogue with our fans” and give “some unfiltered access to our internal conversations and feelings.”  It seems that the Padres early-season doldrums were a partial impetus.

Contrast this to how quickly the Reds shut down scout Butch Baccala’s blog.  (Though he appears to have restarted again after that, then stopped again).

Anyway, kudos to the Padres, a really well-run organization, for embracing this fast, cheap, modern way to communicate with their customers.
